"bad element around hotel"
We realized we stayed there before as a Howard Johnsons.....there were police doing an investigation that time. This time we were disturbed in the night by hotel personel saying someone unauthorized was staying in our room! "Its ok for the area but bad overall"
Here is your wifi password, etc. Nope, didn't work. I thought why not pay a little more for the Jacuzzi tub? Stained, antique and I abandoned the idea of bathing completely once I saw it. I saw that breakfast was offered and this was actually what made my decision to stay here. To call a bagel with cream cheese breakfast is a joke. "Kind of noisy"
We stayed here to go to an event at HP Pavillion. Not a very nice neighborhood to walk in so we ended up driving to the event. The hotel was very clean and the room was comfortable. "It was an okay stay."
Hotel elan was an okay stay. Had to take the last available room on a whim, which was a smoking and pet friendly room. Room had a good animal smell but it was bearable and at least the smell wasn't soaked into the sheets. Of course, there were cigarette burns and what not, but for the price and how quickly I needed a room, the office was very accomodating […] and apologetic for such a room. "You get what you pay for"

"Bad job by Hotel.com"
Not a very good neighborhood per the setting and the Taxi driver. If the hotel had shuttle service like we were told from hotel.cm staff, we wouldn't have needed a Taxi. The hotel after some conversation paid for the Taxi ride to the airport but we had to pay on the way back to the hotel for our car. Hotel.com staff told us it was a stay, park and leave […] your car and shuttle to and from the airport. No shuttle at this hotel. hotel Elan is in downtown San Jose on "FIRST STREET" - it doesn't get more busy/downtown than that! Great central location! Great economy! beyond basic accomodations for a basic rate. This is not a safe neighborhood. They ask to fill out a registration card for which I have never been asked to do at any hotel before. They asked for my personal information although they already made a copy of my driver's license. They also asked for the car license plate. "Clean and Great Value"
The hotel room was very clean and smelled very nice. The amenities weren't the most thrilling aspect, but it was a great deal for the price. The location is about a mile from the convention center, which is the reason for the visit to San Jose. "A clean place to sleep"
I think more money was spent on the fancier ceiling light fixtures then the simple and poorly executed renovations done in the bathroom. Walls are on the thin side regarding noise from neighbours.
