Surrounded by lakes and mountains, JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa is located in Palm Desert, Calif. The resort is three miles from the El Paseo shopping district and five miles from the Living Desert nature preserve.
Hotel Features.
Renovated in 2007, the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa lobby features a 60-foot bar with a cascading waterfall backdrop. This smoke-free resort offers concierge services. A conference center is available, composed of 33 event rooms for a total of 21,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. Wireless Internet access in public areas is complimentary. Recreation includes two 18-hole championship golf courses, 20 tennis courts, five pools, three spa tubs, and a children's activity center (surcharge). Gondolas guide guests around the vibrant resort via its waterways. The Spa at Desert Springs offers a fitness center, separate men's and women's lockers, exercise classes, a spa shop and a salon. Spa treatments include massages, scrubs, wraps, bronzing and facials. The resort offers 7 dining options, including the Rockwood Grill Restaurant serving children's menu, breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, the Blue Star Lounge tapas bar & restaurant, and the Mikado Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar featuring knife-swirling chefs who chop, juggle and joke while preparing dinner. The poolside Oasis Bar & Grille serves light meals. Among its many awards, the resort made the Conde Nast Traveler Gold List in 2005.

The 884 guestrooms of the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa feature balconies or patios, two-chair desks and dining tables, and sofas or reading chairs with ottomans. Décor includes crown molding and walnut-colored furniture. Minibars, coffeemakers, multi-line phones, and complimentary weekday newspapers are provided in each room. Bathrooms feature bathrobes, granite vanities and limestone showers, tubs and floors. Beds offer pillowtop mattresses, down comforters, 300-thread count, triple sheeting, and extra pillows. Rooms include CD players, DVD players, and high-definition LCD televisions with cable service, ESPN, and HBO. High-speed wired and wireless Internet access are available for a surcharge.

Rockwood Grill - A sophisticated all-day dining venue featuring a menu of diverse American Classics. Dishes are expertly prepared from daily locally sourced ingredients, and served in an atmosphere of warmth, comfort, and sophistication. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Weekend brunch and children's menu.
Mikado Japanese Steakhouse Open for dinner. Knife-twirling chefs chop, juggle, and joke, while using fire and steam to prepare steak, chicken and seafood entrees accompanied by vegetables and exotic sauces. East meets west at the sushi bar, which offers fresh foods and Japanese garden views.
Blue Star Lounge - Lively tapas bar & restaurant with music, signature margaritas, local micro brews and hand crafted cocktails.
The Lobby Bar & Sushi Bar - Sushi Bar is open afternoon and evening. The Lobby Bar is open afternoon to late evening, serving an assortment of flat bread pizza and cheeses.
The Oasis Bar & Grille - Pool bar open mid-morning to early evening for light meals.
Starbucks - Lobby coffee shop with outdoor terrace. Open early morning to early evening for coffee drinks, pastries.
Costas Nightclub - Disco open to late night on weekends. (Open other days, depending on resort occupancy.) DJ music or live band.
Sand Trap & Wedge - Offering lunch and snack items. Guests may order at tee-off at the 18th hole for pickup at Sand Trap & Wedge at the end of the round of golf.

JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa is home to two championship 18-hole, Ted Robinson-designed golf courses—the Palm and Valley courses—as well as an 18-hole putting course. Golf clinics (surcharge) and a pro shop are available and golf carts have onboard computers displaying graphic layouts of each hole. The lawn-and-tennis club provides 20 clay, grass, and hard-surface courts. Basketball courts, lawn croquet, bicycle rentals, and organized jogging are among other activities. Tennis clinics (surcharge) are also available.
The Spa at Desert Springs, the on-site 28-room full-service spa, offers private treatment rooms with individualized music and temperature controls, and a full roster of services including massage, scrubs, wraps, anti-aging, facials, waxing, and beauty treatments. Guests may purchase day passes to use the spa facilities.
Five additional outdoor swimming pools, three spa tubs, a fitness room with cardio-vascular equipment, and a children's activity center (surcharge) are also on site. Numerous other championship golf courses are located in the Coachella Valley. The surrounding desert and mountains are popular for hiking, cycling, hot air ballooning, and horse riding. The resort concierge can assist with these and other activities.

Palm Desert is a city for the arts for all senses. Billing itself as a museum without walls, the city displays more than 130 sculptures in public foyers, squares, and sidewalks. Broadway acts and big-name musicians fill the McCallum Theatre’s seats. Souvenir hunters need look no further than El Paseo. This district has more than 300 shops, many with gaily-decorated facades.

The lobby is very snazzy and attractive, but the rooms are drab and two steps below 5-star. My wife said they looked like something from the 1970s. Rooms not nearly as nice as those at the nearby Agua Caliente Casino Hotel, which cost much less when I stayed there last year. We are locals who chose to stay overnight to get away. Loved the grounds and the view from our room on the sixth floor was of the pools, golf course and the mountains. It was beautiful. We received horrible customer service. We checked in on a fri night and within 3 hours of our arrival we found a pretty large roach in our room crawling all over our things. We called the front desk immediately and were Sked very non chalantly if we would like our room "sprayed" but we would gave to leave for 30 minutes to 1 hour. We chose not to have […] our.room sprayed based on chemicals all over our room and health concerns. We were yhan educated by one of the front desk associates named Jusyin if we knew the area we would know roaches are "abundant" and this is normal. A roach in living quarters should never be normal. We were then offered a $75 credit which was never credited to the bill and we had to dispute the bill. We also received a room change after begging and pleading for 10 minutes. It took the hotel staff 47 minutes to come to the room to kill and retrieve the roach because we were not about to do it. This is totally unacceptable cuatomer service in my book and we will never stay here again nor recommend this hotel to anyone we know. I will also let anyone of my friends or family who are thinking.about.staying here to be aware of roach infestation. TotLly gross and it ruined the remainder of my trip. "Could be better"
Well, the hotel is huge. Our room was at the far end of the facility - a long, long, long way from the lobby area. We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet the hotel was. After reading about the rowdy pool parties and the need for security, we were more than a little concerned. The hallways are narrow and darkish, making the trek to the room kind of […] depressing. The room was just fine, the bed was OK. No freezer area in the refrigerator. Partial roll of TP in the bathroom had its end folded into a diamond to give the appearance it hadn't been used. I'd prefer a fresh roll of TP on arrival, please. Valet forgot to put my notebook computer and some other items on the luggage cart at check-in, leaving them in the back of the SUV. However, they were still in the car when I ran the mile and half from the room back to the car. Did I say the hotel is huge? With the exception of the valet, the staff was very friendly and competent. One tip - if you want to adjust your thermostat, press the arrow button HARD and hold it down. It will work! Wife enjoyed the fitness room and spa. I enjoyed the driving range and practice putting green. There is a TaylorMade club fitting and swing analysis center there. We did not use the restaurants in the hotel. In-room coffee situation was not good - they only gave us one decaf and one regular packet. We had to fight over who got the high-octane. I went to the JW Marriott for my Bachelorette party! I was very excited as I had never been to Palm Desert before. I was very pleased that I was allowed to check in early. I was very disappointed that my room had double beds instead of queen beds. They were very uncomfortable and cramped to sleep in with another person. The next night we went to the Japanese place and it was very pricy and the quality of the food was not great! I love tepan places and go at least once a month to local places where I live in SD. IT was not great compared to the places that I normally go to. Lastly, I was very unhappy that the club music was so loud that you could hear it in our room until 2 in the AM. I have never stayed in a hotel where you could hear their club music all night long. Also, I feel that the resort fee is not necessary and over priced considering that i didnt not utilize anything that its was covering. I was not happy about that.
