"Nice Neighborhood, OK Hotel"
The hotel needs updating. The wall in the shower has cracked paint. The carpet is old and a little smelly. Furniture is dated 1990's? Service was okay, I cooked which was nice to be able to do. "Terrible Experience"
After checking in and getting to the room, we noticed the air conditioning was broken. Called the front desk and was basically told the maintenance man couldn't make it until first thing the next morning. So after a very warm night, got up early waiting for him to come. He never showed up, so called the front desk again. They had no record of the problem, […] so apparently the night shift did not report it. Maintenance finally arrived, spent 5 minutes looking at it, then said he would be back in 20 minutes. An hour and 10 minutes later, I had to call the front desk yet again asking when he would be back. He showed up soon afterwards. Then finally an hour later we had air conditioning. So in total, we spent over 12 hours at the hotel in an 80 degree room. "Somewhat Outdated"
The facility is in a good location but is definitely showing its age. The room was clean and comfortable but the flooring, tub and fixtures in the bathroom were significantly worn and should be replaced. The hotel was in a great location though I missed it at first. It is not well marked. Te room was a nice size but needs some upgrades. The TV is old and not a flat screen. The internet was so slow it hardly could be used. Carpet should be replaced. Older building. First the floors in the hallway are uneven. They also keep the temps and humidity high in the hotel, so you smell everyone's cooking...hours after it was cooked. I would consider rating this hotel a 5 out of 5 but I had to make a couple of deductions that I explain below. Sonesta recently acquired this hotel and, according to the employees, it is not yet up to par with their standards. Points deducted for a lack of WiFi and (hard wired) internet access. "Highly recommended"
On our recent stay, there were four of us. We stayed in a two bedroom suite. There was plenty of space for all of us. The breakfast was good. You have the choice to eat healthy or not. The manager special in the evenings were also good. Nothing fancy, but filling. We didn't have to eat out for dinner. We ate downstairs, but noticed several people get […] their food and beverages and go to their rooms. The weather was nice enough to eat outside. The pool and grounds were very nice. The kitchen in the room was stocked with the basic utinsils if you wanted to cook your own food. We each brought wine and glasses to the hotel. Wine glasses are stocked in the kitchen, so we will know next time we can leave them at home. We were in Houston for the International Quilt Festival which is held at the George Brown Convention Center downtown. The location of the Sonesta ES is an easy drive to get to downtown. Westheimer to the Allen Parkway and you're there. I couldn't give them a 5 for upkeep only because we had a leak in the bathtub that wasn't fixed in the three days we were there. The leak didn't keep us up at night, my concern was the water that was being wasted. We diffinetly plan on staying at the Sonesta ES the next time we're in Houston. My initial check-in was slightly flawed by an abrupt desk person, but after that, the hotel was perfect. Although it was farther away from downtown Houston than I thought, it more than made up for the distance. The bed was the most comfortable I think I ever had at a hotel. Breakfast was excellant. "Last minute booking"
The stay was good, the only issue was the 3pm check-in. That wasn't listed on the internet reservation and I had a 2pm meeting that I needed to prepare for. The lady in charge of the cleaning wasn't helpful but the front desk got me in my room around 12:30. The room was clean and the breakfast was actually pretty good.
