I came back for a second time, because the hotel's location is great when you want to expore the island in every direction and at the same time have a cozy place on the oceanfront. Rooms, service and friendliness and helpfulness of the staff are great; although for a longer stay I wish the room service would do some dusting and mopping in between.

Overall stay was pleasant, however our room had thin walls and we could hear conversations in the room next to us. Also the front desk staff was not present / did not answer the phone after 10pm as we tried to request a wake up call an no one could assist us. We stayed in and oceanfront third floor unit that was well maintained and comfortable. We enjoin oceanfront units not just for the view, but so that we can keep the door open at night to hear the ocean in it's fully glory. This room did not disappoint. Lori at the front desk could not have been more friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff were also friendly and communicative, though I would have liked them to have swept the balcony when they cleaned. As others have mentioned, a few more lounge chairs at the beach would be a plus. If this hotel had units with full kitchens we would go back often. Minibar cooking wears thin after a few days. We had no problems with parking, though we did not go out at night and this wasn't the height of tourist season. All in all a quite pleasant stay. Read more

Based upon previous reviews, this hotel was pretty much what we expected: an average, but affordable venue. Amenities (pool, laundry) were modest, but well kept. We were somewhat disappointed that, due to surf and rocks, the beach was inaccessible. I guess we should have known that if we had done better research regarding the East Coast of Kauai.

It was small compared to my timeshare we came from but it was functional. Wonderful beachfront 1 bedroom. Has a "mini" kitchenette with plates, bowls, utensils. A small fridge, no freezer, and a microwave. The grounds were beautiful! And location is great too. Can walk to bars, restaurants, and shops. The Sand Bar was a blast!

I spent a week at the hotel with my wife and four year old son. The positives: It is fairly close to the airport. There is a nice little market area across the parking lot that has a few restaurants, shops and general store. It is pretty central to everything on the island. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are beaches and more places to eat/shop […] if you are willing to walk around a mile. We didn't rent a car and having a bus stop closeby was nice for us to travel. The negatives: The beach right near the hotel isn't really usable but a half mile north is a decent one. The pool wasn't heated, meaning the water was pretty cold and hard to get used to. I suggest walking to the hotel just to the north, pretending you are a guest and using their pool as it is nicer and warmer. This isn't really a negative but it is worth remembering that you will get charged around $16 per night extra as a "resort fee." The rooms are a little worn. Overall we were satisfied with our stay. It was reasonably priced, had a fridge/microwave in the room, had laundry on site, had all the things we needed nearby and was centrally located. If I was rich I would stay somewhere else but for our budget it was about what we hoped it would be. Read more

Great location on the beach in Kapaa. But the room felt small and bit out dated. The pool aeria is small and freezing cold... The staff was a disappointment, not so friendly and service minded. We got a room on third floor and there's no elevator. We feel that the hotel is a little bit overpriced!

This is the second time we have stayed here and I don't remember the staff being so unorganized and grumpy before. But we are not in our room very much and didn't mind having to call the front desk for towels so often. They never did seem to get that we had 3 people in our room and not just 2! All in all, we like this place. It's super mellow, the beach front is the best I've seen so far (absolutely beautiful!) and they have a small kitchenette which saves on eating breakfast out everyday. It's fairly quite, the walls are not the thickest (the first night our neighbor had a movie blasting, but with one phone call she promptly turned it down) and the ocean view is serene! Aston Islander on The Beach in Kapaa was a great hotel choice for my husband and I. You will need to rent a car. Parking is free though. We got partial Ocean view, only could see the ocean from our little balcony, not if sitting inside. You cannot swim in the ocean here as the surf is dangerous . The pool area and bar is cute and has a nice view of […] the ocean. The staff at the front desk were pleasant. The grounds are kept up and pretty with lots of lawn and flowers. The Coconut Market Place is right behind the hotel. The entire package we bought, hotel, car and flight to and from Honolulu was a good value. You still need to pay a resort fee though. But at least the parking is free! If you have little kids you might want to get a place that allows safe swimming and playing in a sandy safe water area. I stayed here in October 2012. I booked the hotel in June 2012 and paid extra to upgrade to an ocean front room. When I checked in, I was put into the Molokai building - second room from the end. My balcony looked out to the Ni'ihau building with the ocean off to the right. I would call this partial ocean view - it was nothing close to an actual ocean […] front room. I called the front desk for an explanation, and they told me that the room was technically in front of the Ni'ihau building, so they considered that an ocean front. The front desk woman told me to wait until sunrise - that the view would be spectacular. The Ni'ihau and Kauai buildings were closing in a few days for construction so they were not available for booking. I was so disappointed that I had paid extra and received no other compensation or amenities to make up for my view. I didn't even receive an apology because in their eyes, they gave me what I paid for. The room itself isn't great. The floors were dirty. You would walk around in your bare feet and wipe off the dirt with your white towel. There was mold growing along part of the wall. It was not ideal. As for parking, if you are not back to the hotel before sunset, you will be sent to the overflow lot. I went to the lot the next morning to find trash all over my rental car, but luckily, there was no damage. I have stayed in other Aston properties with much better results. I am not sure I would reconsider their chain again. Read more

It's a shame I have to rate this hotel so low because it was lovely! The reason I am giving it a low mark is because while we were there the seafront rooms were being restored which lead to dreadful noise! The rooms were right next to the pool, so the peaceful Hawaiian paradise we had gone their SPECIFICALLY for did not exist. The drilling was so loud […] and so constant. What a waste of money! When I contacted the general manager she was not very helpful, explaining to me that these were health and safety issues that could not be put off. I said I appreciated that but felt I should have been informed. I paid all that money for the location and use of the pool and neither mattered with the work going on. She barely apologized and hung up the phone. Aside from that I should give the rest of the hotel a fair review. It is in the perfect location, right on the sea front. There is a pool bar and a lounge bar on site, both of which were lovely. The best service I received was from Jason who manned the Pool Bar, who doubled up as a tour guide! Live music in the Trees Lounge every night which is great to get a piece of local culture. The room was lovely. It was clean and had extra amenities such as a little kitchenette and microwave, which was great for when we wanted to use the BBQs at the pool side. That was such a nice thing to do and makes your trip cheaper if you are working with a budget. Overall a lovely hotel except for the drilling and service from the manager. Read more

This is a nice place to stay being both comfortable and affordable. If you had no interest in the rest of Kauai you could easily just stay here and go from the beautiful beach to the pool, with a stop at the lovely poolside beach bar, to the nearby Coconut Marketplace with its great little breakfast place (Hula Girl) or the delicious Fish taco stands […] for lunch and the wonderful for live music (good food too) in the evening,Trees Lounge. Plenty of gift shops and a small grocery store also close by and can't miss Lyndas Treasures for jewelry and other goodies. However if you must leave, the hotel is very central for touring both sides of the island and close to the airport in Lihue as well. Big grocery store in the Wyland mural shopping plaza up the road. Not total perfection but totally superb for a first time stay in Hawaii. Loved it. Read more

This can be deceiving when you are booking because the price quoted does not include this charge. So it is not as cheap as you think when originally making the deal. They share their parking lot with a restaurant/bar and at night it is nearly impossible to find a place to park. Some of the front desk staff were really unfriendly. Room was spotless clean w/ a partial ocean view , woke up everyday with the sunrise. There is no elevators (the lady who did my check in told me about it before handling me the keys). Room is big w/ 2 beds, small fridge […] no freezer, microwave, toaster, blender, plates, plenty of room to organize your belongings,etc They provide kitchen towel, sponge and detergent. Laundry room w/ 4 washers & 8 dryers. Front desk has change & sell soap and Bouncy sheets . Newspaper available at front desk.The beach is beautiful, there were 2 people snorkling and some surfing. I just took pics because it didn't look too safe for swimming. Front desk people were very friendly and helpful but has limited hours so I check out with the security guy as I was instructed. Parking space is very limit and fill up quickly especially after 8 pm but The security gives you a permit to the overflow parking (at the coconut market) but you have to move you car before 10am. It was not a problem because before 8am you want to leave to explore the island there are a lot of road construction. Farmer's market on Wednesday at the coconut market. Hotel is part of the complex. Beautiful hotel and setting along the water. Friendly bar keeper too. The only puzzling aspect of the stay concerned the $10 daily additional room charge for internet and gaming. I would expect that if you used neither of these add-ons, the charge could be waived from your bill. Not so. It is a mandatory charge if you use the services or not. I have […] never stayed at a hotel that did not provide these amenities in the room charge. Why they break it out like this, I do not know. They only tell you that you agreed to this as a condition of the online reservation. Usually you get a better rate when you book it yourself or some other perk. Strange. To add insult to injury, they have fee based internet computers in the lobby. So in essence, if you do not bring a laptop to your room and connect, they charge you for that and then when you use the computers in the lobby to check email, they charge you for that too.
