For our purposes this hotel was just fine. We were travelling with friends who had a house in Anahola, just 15 minutes away. We were close to food shopping and town amenities, not a good swimming beach, but they had a pool. Good value for the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"So worth the money"
Very impressed with all aspects. Splurged on ocean view and our view was outstanding, Second or third floor is the best view by far. Great ammenities and supplies in the room were wonderful. Very nice dishes, silverware, frig, microwave and coffee pot. Enjoyed breakfast on the balcony after awesome sunrises each day. Great location and beautiful grounds. […] Very small tip...they give you coffee each day as part of the "fee". Good flavor, but weak and only makes 2-3 cups and they charge for additional packets. Bring your own from home. Saw many other hotels, including upscale ones, and the view and proximity was unmatched by far!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value for the cost"
We stayed in and oceanfront third floor unit that was well maintained and comfortable. We enjoin oceanfront units not just for the view, but so that we can keep the door open at night to hear the ocean in it's fully glory. This room did not disappoint. No need for air conditioning in March, just the ocean breezes. Convenient to the low key Coconut Market […] Place which has a farmers' market on Tuesday and Thursday with the best tropical fruit. Lori at the front desk could not have been more friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff were also friendly and communicative, though I would have liked them to have swept the balcony when they cleaned. As others have mentioned, a few more lounge chairs at the beach would be a plus. If this hotel had units with full kitchens we would go back often. Minibar cooking wears thin after a few days. We had no problems with parking, though we did not go out at night and this wasn't the height of tourist season. All in all a quite pleasant stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Home Base"
We are long-time visitors to Kauai, and we chose the Islander for its proximity to the areas we like to spend time. It was quiet, clean and everything looked nice. The staff is professional and pleasant. The pool area is nice. The view is unsurpassed. The property has a windward exposure, so beach-goers should be prepared to travel to a different beach […] area when the wind is up. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"I would stay here again"
My stay here was fine, Nice rooms, although hotel could be updated. I like the fact that the beach was right outside our room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ocean front rooms are GREAT"
This is a nice hotel, with a good combination of affordability and the must-have amenities for a solid Kauai vacation (pool & hot tub with bar, beach, activities agent). It is convenient in its Kapaa location and hotel pick up is complimentary for many activities (kayaking and luau, in our case). The grounds are well maintained and attractive. There […] wouldn't be that much extra to say for one of the interior rooms, I think, but the third floor ocean front room we rented was FABULOUS. Beautiful beautiful views, and there is nothing quite like sleeping on that exceptionally comfortable platform bed with the balcony door open and the ocean's own lullaby! We would definitely return to, and recommend, an ocean front room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ideal location , excatly what you need"
Great location , in kapaa, close to every thing you need on the island .The beach is small ,and was not great for a swim , but the walk was great .I had my best sun rise ever . No need to pay for the playstation and DVD rentals with your 15 $ hotel fee, i geuss their internet about average and need some improvement instead of using copouns for each […] device in the room .No breakfast been served , i guess it will a great add ,so not to bother your morning hunger. Hospitality was great but needed to move faster , indeed the day i checked in was super busy as the hotel was full , and they needed some time to prepare our room Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"East Island Stay"
This is the second time we have stayed here and I don't remember the staff being so unorganized and grumpy before. But we are not in our room very much and didn't mind having to call the front desk for towels so often. They never did seem to get that we had 3 people in our room and not just 2! Our arrival was a bit stressful b/c they sent us to one […] room, then the cleaning lady said it wasn't ready after we started unpacking, then she sent us to another room, then the front desk sent us to our third and final room, all after we had done a grocery store run and had our hand more than full. All in all, we like this place. It's super mellow, the beach front is the best I've seen so far (absolutely beautiful!) and they have a small kitchenette which saves on eating breakfast out everyday. It's fairly quite, the walls are not the thickest (the first night our neighbor had a movie blasting, but with one phone call she promptly turned it down) and the ocean view is serene! If you want affordability with a chill atmosphere, this is your place! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"good value"
Very good value at this hotel. We stayed one night. It was clean and quiet and though our room was not on the beach it was close enough to hear the waves.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Amazing desk staff!"
The room was nice (except the -- possibly unavoidable? -- mildewy smell, but the front desk personnel (especially Sue) were fabulous! We stayed only one night, but it was quite nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel for honeymooners"
Hotel was beautiful, right on the beach in Kappa'a. It 's more private then the crowded town of Poipu. My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. It was outstanding. The views were beautiful, the hotel was open, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay at this hotel again. The only thing my husband would complain about would […] be the air conditioning, but he likes to sleep in a room that is 65 degrees. I slept great and thought it was perfect. "Beautiful grounds!"
Lovely old plantation style building with beautiful grounds. Nice pool and rooms. Great beach right there. Check in was 3:00, but our room wasn't ready until 4:00. The staff didn't seem concerned at all that we had to wait past the check-in time. We couldn't get Wifi to work. Staff wasn't concerned about that either. "Aston Islander - 2nd visit"
This was our second time to stay at the Aston. We were there in 2010. They have added a $10 plus tax surcharge per day to their charge. This can be deceiving when you are booking because the price quoted does not include this charge. So it is not as cheap as you think when originally making the deal. Just be aware of this when making your decision. Also, […] the parking at night is horrible! You drive round and round forever waiting for someone to pull out. They share their parking lot with a restaurant/bar and at night it is nearly impossible to find a place to park. Some of the front desk staff were really unfriendly. The Hawaiian are typically so nice and you would think the hotel would employ front line people who made you feel welcome, but not so. The grounds people and hotel room maids were very nice and always said hello and greeted you with a smile. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"good location"
Overall the hotel was very nice, although I thought the $10 a day amenities charge was a bit much, especially as there didn't seem to be anything other than what you would expect at such a hotel, they even charged extra if you wanted more than one cup of coffee. I would rather Expedia had charged more upfront. Luckily there was just the two of us - […] if it had been the whole family $10 extra per room per night would have been a horrible shock . "Lovely Spot in Kauai"
This was a nice hotel to stay at, it was located close to a market for shopping and the room was decent. Upon checkin we reserved an ocean view and got upgraded to an ocean front. Yeah, the parking was a little crazy at night, but the security team at the hotel is there to help out with finding a space if you cant find one.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel but odd fees attached"
Beautiful hotel and setting along the water. Friendly bar keeper too. The only puzzling aspect of the stay concerned the $10 daily additional room charge for internet and gaming. I would expect that if you used neither of these add-ons, the charge could be waived from your bill. Not so. It is a mandatory charge if you use the services or not. I have […] never stayed at a hotel that did not provide these amenities in the room charge. Why they break it out like this, I do not know. They only tell you that you agreed to this as a condition of the online reservation. Usually you get a better rate when you book it yourself or some other perk. Strange. To add insult to injury, they have fee based internet computers in the lobby. So in essence, if you do not bring a laptop to your room and connect, they charge you for that and then when you use the computers in the lobby to check email, they charge you for that too. "Very nice hotel in a great location."
I was surprised by this hotel, it was nicer than I expect it. The hotel had an old fashion feel too it. The location was perfect, hotel was well kept, the room big and clean. Although the staff was ok.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel and location"
Very nice hotel for the price. We had a "garden view" room and the nice thing was that we still had an ocean view from that room. The room size was a bit small, but we were out and about everyday so that didn't matter. The hotel grounds were stunning with beautiful tropical flowers and well landscaped. The hotel staff were friendly. The neighboring […] mall was extremely convenient to walk to for food, ice cream, and gifts. Very nice location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beware of hidden charges!"
We liked the hotel, location, etc. Only thing we weren't pleased with was the additional $10 per day resort fee that is added on at check in and not a part of the advertised room rate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Resort & Very Convenient"

"Reasonable Hotel on Beach"
Very clean & reasonable. Location is OK, if you have a rental car & plan to explore the island. Would not suggest staying entire trip on property, as pool area is rather small.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable and great location"
Stay was comfortable. Great location, for easy access to either side of the island. The front desk staff we encountered did not have the Aloha spirit that we were so accustom to, that was dissapointing, but all other staff were friendly. The grounds are kept up beautifully. It was nice just to sit off the beach and watch the ocean. If you are accustom […] to sleeping in a dark room, this is not the place to stay in. You do wake up at dawn when it starts getting light out, there is a thin see through curtain so you can enjoy your ocean view and enjoy the day early. The free video rental is nice, for those that just want to relax to a movie in the room in the evening. Jason the pool side bartender is excellent, he makes great drinks. "Views"
The islander is in a great location, but somewhat hard to find the first time. The setting is beautiful. We felt it was worth a little extra money to be in the units that are right on the beach, but the grounds are beautiful through out the complex. One addition that would have made our stay more comfortable would be wifi in the rooms. I did not bring […] a laptop, only an iPad, so it was inconvenient to have to go to the lobby each time I needed to get online. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice Budget Hotel - N Complaints"
Very reasonably priced and close to shopping and restaurants. We had a clean room and it was quiet in the evening. There is a daily happy hour at the pool/hot tub area.Hotel path leads down to beachfront with a beautiful view. I don't think the beachfront area directly located at the back of the Aston is safe for little ones or weaker swimmers, the rip […] currents are very strong, but as you stroll along the water front, other areas of the ocean are calmer. "Best place to stay in it's price range"
I have stayed at the Islander many times over the past few years. I have always been satisfied with the room and location as it's located right on the beach (which is is something that I look for) in Kapaa. This area, is the most centrally located on the island. What I particularly like about The Islander is that it is a modern small unassuming property […] built in the plantation style. It's very open air and not very hotel feeling. The grounds are very nice. The beach is a little rough as there is a lot of reef which doesn't make for the best swimming, but still very pleasant for sunning or just reading a book. The beach also tends to have a lot of washed up debris which is not maintained or removed all the time. Overall, the staff is great, very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are very modern and very clean with a wet bar, mini fridge, coffee maker & microwave with your own private Lanai that, even with a Garden Room view, you still can usually see the ocean which you are close enough too to hear all the time. All you really need. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"aston islander on the beach kuaui"
The hotel is clean with good beds and nice linens (nicer if the fitted sheet was not a king put on a double bed...) and the people there are very friendly and helpful. the parking is awful as noted in several reviews and the stores and restaurants all close early so be sure to stop off before arriving, parking, and then going through the parking battle […] again. the beach is not really safe to swim so consider that if you are seeking a location with safe swimming. generally the beaches appear to have strong undertow everywhere so you probably have to go to a beach away from hotels to swim or use the fabricated area on site which was nice. overall, this place is a great place for the price and the ability to prepare lunches and not cooked breakfasts and the people there are really really nice and helpful. they want you to enjoy your stay and it is sincere from my perspective. i have found aston's to be nice value for the money on oahu as well. "Island at the Beach, Kauai, a good find."
Excellent value with much to recommend it, mainly price, staff and location. My husband and I were repeat visitors. Only drawback was some mold on beach chairs and mold on lanai screens and jacuzzi did not work. But the value was unbeatable. Able to walk to shops, eats, grocery, bike path etc.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Quiet and Relaxing"
The location of the hotel was perfect for our first visit to Kauai. I would highly recommend upgrading to the oceanfront room. Very quiet. Beach in front of the hotel isn't the nicest for swimming; however, many are very close by. Staff all very friendly and interested in making your stay the best it can be.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Needs some Aloha"
I had expected a bit more Aloha, which was not really given on our arrival. No water, coffee, no ANYTHING in the lobby. No WIFI throughout the hotel...only the lobby. If you wanted another packet of coffee; it was a dollar. So for the price of the room you weren't given anything besides the room. The person upon checkout was the most congenial...but much […] nicer places to stay very close & with similar prices. It needs some updating & a few more BASIC amenities. Some Aloha spirit too! "Nice place to spend a few days"
This older motel/hotel has been completely updated to look like new. The beds were comfortable and they had all the modern conveniences.
