We were very happy with our hotel room....we did ask for a King Bed, got to the hotel at 2:45 and told it wouldn't be ready until 4pm...they offered us a Queen in a big room if we didn't want to wait and we were happy with that. "Great Hotel - Easy Access to Universal Studios"
This was our 2nd stay at the DoubleTree and it was just as good as the first time. The room was spacious, amenities were nice, and the view was incredible. We requested a park view, so we were able to see Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure from our 17th floor window. The only issue I had was the slight musty smell in the room. Don't remember […] that being the case during our first stay. But that didn't deter us from having a great room. We brought our own pillows, thank goodness, because the pillows they had were way too squishy. They would flatten out completely within 5 minutes of laying on them. Overall, the price was right for what we were expecting. It was really crowded during our stay, but that's to be expected during Spring Break. When you stay here, make sure to request a high floor. When we arrived, 1/2 hour past check on date, our room was not ready. We were told it would be 15 minutes. That 15 minutes turned into an hour and a half. During that time, we were not offered a cocktail, an upgrade, or an compensation. When we asked if we could be switched to another room, as we had dinner reservations and would like to rest & freshen […] prior, we were told that there were no room available. The manager finally "found" a room and we were placed directly next to the stairs & listened to a banging door all night. The room was very comfortable. And overall clean. We ended up in a handicapped room which in & of itself was not a problem, but, it was not equipped for both handicapped & non-handicapped. We couldn't hang our clothes in the closet because the only rod was low & no second rod in a high position. Great location to Universal Studios and to Citywalk. On the negitive side, the hotel does need some updated maintenance. The room carpets and sofa were stained, and they need to be replaced. It was a nice big room though. We never saw any carpets in the hallways and elevator waiting area ever vacuumed in two days we stayed. There was lint and stuff […] on the carpets everywhere. On the positive side, the staff and valet were always very nice and attentive. If you want convenience to Universal Studios and to Citywalk, this is a decent hotel. Not great, but not bad. We arrived just after 5 PM. I had booked a "King" room, with one king bed and a park view. We were checked in with a "deluxe" room, that had 2 queens and a pullout sofa-slight overkill for a middle-aged couple. There's a choice of valet or self-park, but the difference was only several dollars.Doubletree is another one of those chains (Hilton Honors) […] that charges for a service (Internet) that many lesser hotels provide for free, (though there's free connection if you want to schlep your computer down to the lobby). The walls in our room (411) were in need of a significant painting job; they were scuffed and dirty at levels much higher from the floor. The location is right across the street from Universal's main entrance, but the main gate is a significant distance from the automobile entrance point on Kirkman Rd. This hotel is beautiful and was perfect for my husband and I. We walked to Universal every day and took a cab back for $5 every night. The concierge was very helpful too. We rode in a new Expedition back to the airport! The only negative I have is stay away from the restaurant. The breakfast buffet is really expensive, so we decided to sit diwn and […] eat instead. Our service was horrible, the food was bad and the orange juice is cheaper in the gift shop. Once we got our bill there was a 16 percent gratuity automatically added to our bill! I loved everthing about staying at this hotel. My only negative is that the doors on all the rooms slam hard and loud and can be heard all down the hall at any time of the day or night. shuttle service to the park was misleading. only runs a few times a day but there is cab service for a flat $5 fee. Thought it was ridiculous that if you didn't want to pay the $16 valet parking, it was still $12 to park yourself. "Close to Universal"
This was our second stay at the DoubleTree. I am a big amusement park fan, so we spent the day at Universal, which can't be more than a mile from this hotel, and then walked to the Ale House to watch a UFC fight in the evening (the Ale House is on the same block). There is also a Starbucks in the lobby, a great outside seating area just to hang out, […] a tiki-pool bar, and a buy-one-get-one happy hour at the hotel restaraunt/bar downstairs. I've stayed at the Doubletree on Major Boulevard twice now because it matches everything that I want - location, good-size room, price and convenient access to other attractions (the I-Ride trolley stops just outside, giving you access to International Drive and Seaworld).
