"Happy with everything (except the cockroach)"
All we wanted was a place to sleep when we went to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. Arrived late wednesday evening, the room was VERY spacious, clean, lots of pillows on the bed. The location was supreme- RIGHT across the street from Universal, a very easy walk (although the hotel does offer shuttles). The only problem […] was when we were getting dressed in the morning and found a large cockroach in the bathroom. Apparently this is a common issue in Florida and they call them palmetto bugs. Looked like a big scary cockroach to us. I took a cell phone picture & showed the woman at the front desk, she took down the room number and apologized profusely. At the time we were checking out so we weren't worried about returning to the room. Again, we've consulted with others and apparently it's an issue all over Florida... Went to HardRock to see Ron White & stayed one night. Checked in to the hotel, grabbed a bite a TGIFridays down stairs. The hotel set up our cab for 6 of us & it only cost $10. "1-mile walk to entrance gates of Universal parks"
I booked at the last minute and had to take a smoking room for my family of five. My bad. Still, it was clean, accepted pets for a standard price they won't let me quote here and had a decent breakfast buffet for two (included) at the attached TGI Fridays. The other 2 kids and adult ate the buffet for less than you'd pay at McDs. It had french toast, […] pancakes, western omelettes, sausage, the works. It's a suite hotel, and we loved the separate sleeping area with a door. I bought park tix (no discount but a deal where you buy two days and get the third free) in the lobby and there was a complimentary hourly shuttle w/limited seating (book early). We just chose to walk. It's a good mile, across the busy boulevard and through many themed restaurants/shops to get to the theme parks. Most folks walked once then took the shuttle. You can get a cab for less than $10 if you dicker. Shuttle or cab, you still have to walk a good bit to get to the gates. You can also divert your walk onto the beautifully landscaped grounds of the on-site hotels. There are bicycle rickshaws there where you pay what you wish.The hotel is in good shape for the price: no peeling paint or frayed carpets. Very dirty in hallways and elevators. Original room had filthy couch and no working telephone. They did move us to a different, upgraded room, which was better. I was a single mother with two children aged 12yrs and 16yrs.Hotel is directly across to universal studios a free shuttle runs a few trips in the morning to universal studios and then again back to hotel in evening. TGIFridays is the restuarant next to the hotel and kids 12 yrs old and younger get to eat free for […] breakfast, lunch and dinner with one paying adult meal. The parks are a 15minute walk from the hotel very safe to walk if no shuttle service is available. "Good hotel if you're not looking to sleep"
Hotel itself was great, we just had bad timing. A large group of church kids (about 40-50 kids between the ages of 14yrs - 18yrs) stayed on our floor whom didn't seem to know what sleep was. They kept slaming their doors and yelling in the halls. We complained to the front desk and they tried to control them, but failed. After talking to the hotel manager the next morning, we were able to get moved to a much higher floor, far, far, FAR away from the kids.
