This 4-star, cliff-top resort sits 300 feet above the beaches where the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet. Located in Fajardo on the northeastern tip of Puerto Rico, this property is an 8-minute boat ride to the resort's private Palomino Island. Nearby attractions include the Marina.
Hotel Features.
The resort's vast outdoor playground includes 7 outdoor pools, a water park with waterslides, lazy river, sundecks, cabanas, and 35-slip marina. Kayaks, pedal boats, sailboats, and personal watercraft can be rented on Palomino Island. The 18-hole championship golf course has a pro shop, driving range, and putting green. Restorative treatments can be taken at the full-service spa featuring garden views, saunas, steam rooms, a fitness center, and workout studio. Beach massages are also available. Horseback riding, a tennis center, and sailboat and catamaran charters can be arranged (fees). Guests can choose from a wide variety of cuisine at El Conquistador Resort's 23 restaurants and lounges. Several restaurants serve breakfast (surcharge). Business and meeting amenities include multiple conference rooms, ballrooms, banquet facilities, exhibit space, audiovisual equipment, business services, support staff, and a business center.

The air-conditioned guestrooms are equipped with complimentary wireless internet access. 32-inch LCD televisions have premium channels and include in-room movies and video games. In addition to electronic safes, guestrooms offer DVD players, mp3 docking stations, coffee/tea makers, and multi-line phones with voice mail. Bathrooms have deep soaking bathtubs or showers, phones, hair dryers, and complimentary toiletries. Guestrooms are all non-smoking. In-room childcare and massages are available (surcharge). Strip House - Famed Manhattan steak restaurant decorated in silk and vintage Studio Manasse images. The innovative menu includes truffle cream spinach, goose fat potatoes, and prime cuts of beef charred cooked in Chef John Schenk's kitchen. Desserts include the decadent 24-layer chocolate cake. Private dining rooms are also available.
Stingray's - At the seaside in La Marina Village with views of the ocean and Palomino Island. Caribbean-infused seafood cuisine and tropical fruit sorbets. Open daily for dinner; reservations are recommended.
Casitas Café - Overlooking Las Casitas Village pool. Serving breakfast al fresco daily.
Las Brisas Restaurant - Casual restaurant offering indoor and outdoor dining, and one-of-a-kind vistas. Breakfast buffet is served daily.
Café Bella Vista - Informal, open-air café and pizzeria located on the upper terrace overlooking the main pool and Palomino Island. Offering a wide selection of pizzas, sandwiches, salads, tapas, Mediterranean specialties, and exotic drinks. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
Café Caribe - Casual coffee-shop dining around skylighted fountain. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Sandwiches, traditional American dishes, Caribbean specialties. Located in The Grand Hotel.
Ballyhoo Bar & Grill - Shrimp, conch fritters, pizza, burgers. Ocean and Palomino Island views. Located in Las Marina Village. Lunch and dinner.
The Golf Grill - Perched above the 18th hole and the tennis center. Serving lunch and cocktails.
Iguana's - Al fresco café and bar on Palomino Island.
Dave's Cookies - Coffee drinks, pastries, desserts, sandwiches. Open morning until night. Located in The Grand Hotel next to funicular station.
Virgin Burger & Splash Bar - Signature burgers and tropical drinks. Lounge chair service available. Splash Bar is located at the pool nearest Las Brisas Wing and is open daily.
Drake's Martini Bar - Spacious lounge with wood floor, Asian rug, overstuffed seating, pool table. Dress code: long pants, collared shirts for men.
Mino's - Casual bar located on Palomino Island.
Cozy's Gourmet Market - Open from morning until late night.
Oasis Bar & Grill - Located in In Coqui Water Park.
Starbucks Coffee
This Puerto Rico resort includes an 18-hole championship Arthur Hills golf course featuring 200-foot elevation changes and ocean views, as well as a tennis center offering four clay and three hard-court tennis courts.
Kayaks, pedal boats, sailboats, and Jet Skis can be rented on Palomino Island. Guided horseback tours are also available on the island. Fishing boats, snorkeling and scuba excursions, guided kayak tours, sailboat charters, and catamaran sunset cruises leave from the resort's private marina (fees).
Other tours available include guided hikes and bus/walking trips to El Yunque rain forest and Bioluminescent Bay.

"Legacy reputation for quality lacking ....."
My wife ran conferences here in the mid-90's and wanted to return for a long time, so took the family. Hotel is VERY tired and needs basic up-dating. Plastic couches in rooms not so nice, A/C that barely worked, and friendly service, but very SLOW especially at restaurants that basically are microwaving the lunch ! "Just Terrific!"
This gorgeous hotel and property has it all! We stayed down by the marina in Las Casonas area so we were right next to water park, which my son loved. The room was clean and spacious with vaulted ceilings. It never felt too crowded even on the weekend, everyone was pleasant and friendly. The free ferry to Palomino island is a huge plus, we went every […] day and stayed all day. The beaches are beautiful, there is ample seating and shade. Take a hike around to the quieter beaches--some clothing optional. The Iguanas Cafe has the best fish and chips! If you stay at Los Olas or down by the marina you are pretty well isolated from the lobby so be prepared to be efficient and also consider a porter for your things. That said, there are restaurants and bars and shops on the bottom top levels so you do not feel stranded. Onsite food and drinks were good but $$$, considering walking toward the condos (Marina Lanais) and going into the village of Las Croabas, about 1/4 mile on a paved road. We ate at several local restaurants that had great food, music and drinks for $. Best to walk during the day or with a flashlight in the early evening, but not too late at night. Self parking was too far away and $15 night was a bit ridiculous for the inconvenience, but overall that was minor in our stay. Beware they do charge $150 per night deposit on cc. "Beautiful views with OKAY hotel stay"
The cleanliness of our room was poor. Our expectations were set pretty high after looking at website pictures etc and we were left disappointed. The pool area and lounging chairs could also use an update/clean up. I would expect more from a 4 Diamond Resort. Our rooms had stains on the carpets, mold in the bathrooms (on shower curtain and grout), and the overall appearance was "shabby". Beautiful place. Food in the restaurants not so good, but convenient. The funicular is somewhat annoying to have to wait for and our room turned out to be about the farthest room low down by the marina, not very deisrable. Would be better to stay up near the main hotel. Much more convenient. The island Palomino was great and had a lot of activities […] for the kids. Food ok there, but generally bar food. The resort is beautiful with lush landscaping and magnificent ocean views. However, they need to update the rooms and the hallways which are VERY outdated. "One of the Best family vacation with 2 yrs old"
Very nice and well build/maintain hotel. i heard you should know little bit of Spanish when traveling to puerto rico but found most of the staff/ hotel, you can speak English. ( i know only few words in Spanish). Food is good (but not grate). I was traveling with my 2 year old, and she really enjoyed the stay (specially pool and Jacuzzi ).They have […] activities for the kids to keep them engage. Only disadvantage is its around 1 hr drive from San Juan airport. Hotel has its own pick up and drop facility which cost around 75-79 $. but it is timely basis and runs every 2 hrs i guess. i did the private cab which cost 85-90 bugs. All other activities ( scuba snorkeling jet skiing and bio luminous bay with kayak /motor boat is near by hotel. ) so i didn't spend much on renting car. They also have enterprise counter in hotel so you can pick up car at hotel it self. and private beach(palomino ) was one of the best. not crowded so you can relax as well as enjoy your stay in hotel. The hotel rooms need updating and bigger/newer TV's. Its almost 2012 thus its a disgrace for a major resort to have 20" TV's and outdated furniture. Restaurants have Manhattan pricing without Manhattan vibe and close too early. Casino is a joke, 1 roulette table and no craps. Only 1 "Funicular" running is a disgrace also. The hotel and ammenities were great. I would recommend. However, the only thing I disliked is the long time it takes to check-in and check-out. For example, 11am is checkout time, so have more staff availavle to move the line in the lobby at that time. "Our Stay at El Conquistador"
This was my first time out to Fajardo, the town El Conquistador is in. It was only a 45 minute drive from San Juan. It was a top quality experience during our 5 night stay. Nice hotel could use some upgrades. The rooms are nice and well maintained.The common areas can use a some upgrades. There was a few additional charges that cought me by surprice. Very expensive, dirty lobbys on the fist floor. Poor maintenance on balconys even found a spider in my room. Two towels per room on the first day no towels at all on my second day. The check in experience was a little dessapointing because we were very tire and when they gave us the room was two hours later. I was in the parking lot around 1/2 hour trying to find a spot. But any ways the hotel is awesome and I spent great quality time with my familiy. Another observation, the hotel was very very crowded and I can understand that […] we have to be pacient but honestly the managers adm. of the hotel must consider to build another way to go from the lobby to la marina, like another two funiculars or a safty stairs because the wating time to get in the funiculars sometimes was around 45 minutes and I think is to much time specially when you are in vacations when you wants to be relax and having fun. I have been coming to this hotel for over 10 years, even before it was owned by Waldorf Astoria. I love the location overlooking the ocean and the private beach. It has a wide selection of restaurants, several pools, a mini water park, golf course, spa, child care, stores, miniature golf, water sports, horse back riding, and more. Service was great.
