Due to a last minute travel the Charlesmark hotel was in the best location for the last travel to Boston. The hotel was clean the room was clean, the service was great and very helpful. Nice boutique hotel and perfect location, but tough for those travelling for business that are used to certain perks Cons:. The rooms are small and not very sound proof. There wasn't really enough room for my clothes in the cabinet closet and the desk is inside the entertainment center. The light inside the desk area gets very hote after awhile. The […] elevator rarely worked and I was on the 4th floor so that made it tough for days I was stuck working in the room. Any time I needed dinner, drinks, etc I had to walk up and down four flights of stairs and then find a place to get the things I needed from. I had to order in a couple of days because I couldn't really leave my computer. Also printing was problematic as the comps in the lounge area won't permit you to download files i had to print them through the front desk. PROS: The staff is very nice and they helped me big time. I probably pestered them a lot as I was really busy and had a lot of needs. I think what comes down to is this. The rooms are clean and nice and they make good use of the space they do have. The hotel is small but fabulous and was very conveniently located in the Back Bay in Copley Square. The service staff were somewhat polite but not overly accommodating. The Charlesmark Hotel is an excellent place to stay. Without question, it has one of the most friendly and helpful hotel staffs I've ever encountered (be it the front desk staff, the bartenders, or the cleaning crew) . Volume and music selection was easily controlled so it was not obnoxious or too loud and added energy to the room. The free WiFi was nice as was the continental breakfast. The breakfast spread though was a bit sparse: coffee, bagels, donuts, juice and oatmeal. That would be the only negative of the stay. Other than that, the Charlesmark exceeded my expectations and was located in a wonderful spot right across from the Boston Public library. Generally very pleased although floors were very thin and upstairs folks were very noisy. I called front desk and things seemed to quiet down pretty soon after that but it was midnight so I'm not sure if they were finally settling down anyways. This a great place for singles but a little small and "hip" for a family with small kids.

The hotel looks and feels like a hip youth hostel. The rooms are not fancy/glamorous but rather comfy. I loved it. In the hotel has a martini bar as well. The bar was well attended. I could not hear the noise of the bar in my room! One big downside though is that the elevator to the rooms is accessible by everybody, not just hotel guests. I would have […] preferred an hotel-guest-only elevator key...or some kind of higher security system. Same for the stairways. After checking out from the hotel, there was the possibility to leave the luggage with the hotel. The luggages are locked with a rope so that they cannot be stolen but are accessible by everybody - so make sure you lock you luggage since people could go and open your zippers. I didn't trust the storage enough, so I only left my luggage but took my laptop and all other electronic devices with me. This was quite inconvenient. I love how you get real keys when you check in, instead of those horrible key cards most hotels use. All the staff I met so far have been wonderful, especially Lee. Very close to the convention center and the staff was really wonderful. Very helpful and friendly. The room was nice and tastefully decorated but a little on the small, which is probably to be expected in a big city. I wouldn't let the room size stop me from staying again. Absolutely loved this hotel. The location is great and walkable to most of the city sites. Attended a conference at Hynes Convention Center and it was only about a 5 minute walk. If you're a runner, added bonus of having the Boston Marathon finish line just outside the hotel. Hotel is very small. Hallways are skinny and rooms are tiny. Hotel staff wasn't unfriendly but not overly friendly either. I guess 11am is the time TVs are turned off in the breakfast area. I'm not, and the small rooms don't bother me---so I've stayed here four times. It's a good value and the location is perfect. My only gripe is that the weird shower handles are impossible to adjust without alternately scalding then freezing yourself.

Why I gave it sort of a low rating is the hotel has it's quirks. If you get a Standard room on the back, you'll hear the trash trucks in the alley all night. Charlesmark is the kind of place you could walk right by, hidden among the many restaurants and watering holes lining Boyleston Street in Copley Square. There is no formal lobby to speak of, just a check-in desk to the right of a noisy bar and a lounge area up a few steps that also doubles as the breakfast area in the morning with complimentary coffee, […] juice, bagels and donuts to start your day. The rooms for the most part are pretty small, seven to a floor but appointed well with all the trappings of a nice boutique hotel, remote TV, VCR, DVD player and sound system with larger than life mirror to make the room seem normal sized. But no closet in the room I had; just some hooks and hangers for clothes. All of that suited me fine for the short overnight stay I had in Boston, and seemed to work for the other singles and young couples that largely made up the guests I saw at breakfast in the morning. The big benefits of Charlesmark are the central location in the Back Bay area of Boston, and the price which can't be beat anywhere in the neighborhood.
