Beautiful historic Arizona Hotel. Grounds were lovely. Our room was a part of the original Adobe units. Rooms were extra large with nice bar and kitchenette area. However, there was no mini-fridge. I stayed here in the late '70s and loved the quiet and beauty. The open areas within the grounds have been converted to more accommodations and the fields have filled with housing. It's different in the growth but maybe better in the care of the grounds because everywhere there was green and blooms. The staff were all friendly and quick to please. The maintained grounds are beautiful. The proximity to the baseball spring training facilities was great. Only problem was the air-conditioner was motion sensor controlled and would shut off several times during the night. Result was waking up sweating a couple of times and night, getting up, and tapping on the thermostat to get it the cooling process […] started again. The carpet was clean but old and the grout needed to be replaced by the tub. The layout was wonderful and the bed was so comfortable. The air conditioning worked very well. If a liitle was money was spent on the above items this would be a very nice room. I thought I paid a little to much for the condition of the room. The staff was excellent.

The wigwam hotel room was beautiful and spacious. The grounds, pool area,parking availability was all fabulous. My only complaint was the resort fee which I thought was high; and wi/fi in your room was a charge. Free wifi was available in the hotel lobby. I would definitely stay there again!

Rooms and amenities were really good except for parking. It was almost impossible to find parking near our room. Internet is not free! It is free if you pay an $18 daily activity fee. Since I had business off the hotel premises I had no time for any activities. Since I was surprised at the additional $18 per day charges. (I had not been told of this […] charges when I checked in.) This hotels does not give turn down, "house keeping" if you stay multiple nights. I had to call the front desk to have new towels brought up. The layout of the hotel is a joke. Took us almost a half hour to find our room. I talked to other guests and they went through the same thing we did, driving around in circles trying to find your room. I have […] been a guest at my share of hotels, this is one I would never have on my list. They charge you an extra 18.00 just for being a guest here. There is no fridge, free internet service, the ice machine aren't even near the rooms. To enjoy the pool, you must walk an 1/8 mile or drive to it. I was there for a conference. The hotel is nice but a little over priced. It's sitting on some beautiful grounds with pools and winding patways. There are no refrigerators or microwave ovens in the rooms, and there is no convenience store in the hotel anymore. The hotel staff was very friendly and accomodating. They upgraded us to a slightly larger room by their playground equipment since we had our 3 year old daughter with us (no charge). We selected the Wigwam due to its large grounds (for the 3 year old to run around on), pools and tennis courts, and central location to our commitments. I was somewhat […] reluctant to book at the Wigwam due to some of the negative reviews I read on hotels.com regarding the condition of the rooms. We did not experience anything beyond the normal aging issues of a normal historic hotel. Any issues we identified to the hotel were either promptly addressed or gratefully noted for future action by the staff. If you want brand new rooms, go to a new hotel with the same boring amenities as every other hotel. If you want to experience the ambiance of a historic hotel and location, with a unique, relaxing and comfortable setting, stay at the Wigwam. But for our commitments, we could have spent our entire 6 days at the resort. They have a variety of interesting activities such as a Sunday community farmer's market on their grounds, but swimming in the two linked pools was by far our daughter's favorite activity. Particularly special was the evening where the entire family watched the movie "Tangled" while swimming in the hotel pool, as it was projec ted onto a large screen between two palm trees. Our daughter just could not get enough. The only negative regarding the pools was that the two slides into one of the pools only appeared to be open once during our entire stay, and during the heat of the day rather than early evening when everyone starts hitting the pool in earnest. Frankly, I was the one that wanted to try it, and our daughter is too young (but she can use them during one of our future stays). Checked in and got room keys, room was about 1 mile from front desk. Got to room and all furniture except the bed was missing, just had the floors steamed. Walked all the way back to front desk, got new room keys, walked to new room, same thing!! Went back and waited in lobby for 30 min while they found me a room that was not be steam cleaned. Finally […] got room keys to a room, got there and all was good. However was late for my business meeting due to all the screwing around. Resort is nice, just had a bad experience getting a room. Through Expedia I was able to obtain a great rate at this traditional Phoenix resort which just saw a major renovation. No, this is not the Phoenician or the Scottsdale Princess, but for the rate I got in the peak of the season in the winter you wouldn't even be able to walk through the front lobby in these two places. The Wigwam is beautfiul, the rooms […] in the casitas are beyond large. One of the pools is being renovated, but the other pools were very nice. I was right next to the hot spa so the evenings were extremely nice. The golf course is also a great value, although again, this is not the Princess, don't expect the luxuries of places with high green fees, they have a nice set of courses in the property. Lots of people in the resort were there for the golf package, which allows you to play as much as you want while you are there. Apparently a great value, but I was there for work. The main lodge just went through the renovation and the smell of paint and floor finish is still there; to me, I really liked the rustic beauty of the Wigwam, but like i said, if you are expecting the glitzy light facade of the fancy resorts in Vegas or Scottsdale, this is NOT it! I have to say that I was SEVERLY dissapointed with my stay at The Wigwam. While they do have a disclamer notice notifying guests that there are construction activities being performed at the hotel through December, it hardly encompasses the full nature of the distaster this place is. Not only were 2 of the 3 pools described closed (reads big gaping […] dirt holes in the ground being excavated) everwhere I looked things didn't work correctly. Problems included: broken ice machines, sliding glass doors that would not properly lock, broken television, broken room telephone (a REAL pleasure when you can't get your wake up call to stop ringing in the morning), and technical issues with the room internet access. Add to all of this the fact that it took the housekeeping staff until the third day of my stay to clean the grass clumps sitting on the bathroom floor from the previous guest. My understanding is that significant investment is being made to improve the quality of the resort accomidations, but my recommendations would be that anyone wishing to stay here would be well served waiting until the improvements are completed before booking a stay.
