"Extremely small rooms"
I have never stayed in a smaller room. I had to block the bath room door to be able to open my suitecase. Minimal amenities. Very good Swedish breakfast. Warm boiled eggs otherwise only cold cut. We got an excellent price, especially for Scandinavia. The room was small, as is typical in this part of Europe, but modern, clean, quiet and functional. Good walking or public transportation access to all of Stockholm. (Two quick stops from the central rail and subway stations.) All things considered, the hotel is very nice, and I would be willing to return. The rating of "4" is a little low; I believe a rating of 4.3 (out of 5) is more reflective of my experience. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was nice. The hotel is a short walk from a subway station, which was very helpful […] for my purposes. The only negative aspect is that my room was very small, with little closet space. (The "3" rating on the "Comfort of your room" criterion is due almost entirely to this.) In addition, it would have been helpful to have an iron and ironing board in the room, and only one bath towel was provided. Also, the selection of television channels was somewhat limited compared to the selection available in many hotels. I experienced a wee bit of trouble with wireless internet access. Specifically, I was able to connect to the Internet via wireless access. After shutting down my computer and then powering up again, I had difficulty reconnecting via wireless. However, I had an Ethernet cable with me, and was able to connect to the Internet with no difficulty. (Note: It is possible the trouble I experienced might have been easily repaired. I read the reviews of the Rex before I booked, and I found them to be very accurate. Sure the room is small, but there is a nice courtyard and a big room for the morning breakfast. The T-Bana (the underground transportation) connects right around the corner from the hotel - buy a week long SL card - and some bus stops are nearby also. The hotel is in a quiet location within easy walking distance of the main tourist attractions and has a metro stop very near by. The staff were friendly and helpful . A nice touch is the free tea and coffee in the reception area. We were also able to use the facilities of its sister hotel across the road. We chose this hotel initally as Expedia had a good deal. We got an unexpectedly expensive taxi from Stockholm train station (take the metro!) . We arrived early but despite that, the staff were able to let us into our room early which was a godsend. "An absolute gem in Stockholm!!"
We LOVED our stay at the REX hotel and highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Stockholm. We liked that the hotel was not directly in the centre of Stockholm's busy downtown but was only a 5 minute walk from the very user-friendly Tunnelbana (subway). Initially, we had a nice, clean but VERY small room that faced the main street (you couldn't open […] 2 suitcases on the floor at the same time). It was very loud...you could hear every car and conversation at all hours of the night. Needless to say, we requested a bigger, quieter room away from the street. The hotel staff were INCREDIBLY friendly, helpful and accommodating. We ended up with a FABULOUS room that looked out onto the courtyard (quiet = MUCH happier:) Our "new" room was nicely appointed with modern fixtures and was VERY clean. We give high marks to the daily continental breakfast that was included. It took the guess work out of having to find breakfast (and saved us money as well). Lots of fresh bread, eggs, cereal, veggies, fruit, coffee, tea and juice to choose from. We enjoyed eating breakfast out in the courtyard every morning. Our only suggestion is to get there early as it gets quite busy after about 8:00am. It was also nice having the chance to check email on the hotel's guest computer. There was never a really long wait if you timed it right. This lovely little hotel definitely felt like a "home away from home". It was charming & provided great service for the cost.
