On the north side of Dubai Creek, Deira is an interface between the high-rise business city and the traditional Arab trading port. Modern malls give way to ancient souks selling silks, spices, gold, perfumes, and a lively fish market. "Great service but overpriced and uncomfortable bed"
Excellent service+++. Good location near airport+. Clean rooms+. Very hard bed with feather pillows going flat was a double minus. Not a good nights sleep after a 15 hour flight was a minus. I was very surprised this was a 5 star hotel. There was mold around the tub and the tiles were coming lose. The A/C was not sufficient in the room and it was barely cool. The web site stated bottled water was provided in the room yet they wanted to charge me 24 dirham on check out because I asked for the water. The hotel is undergoing some renovation of the rooms. The public areas need renovation as well. I found the workmanship of the renovated room to be shoddy. I was really unhappy about the check-in. I arrived very early and asked for an early check-in, which I off course agreed with the receptionist to pay for. Yet, even though several guests checked out and rooms became available, I was told it would take 5 hours to clean and make the room available - this was the information given from the room division […] to the receptionist! As I complained about this, she checked again, and then it would be reduced to 4 hours, which still for me is completely unacceptable, since several rooms had already been vacated. Finally, I got a room after 2½ hours, but only after involving the reception manager. But, being a frequent traveler, I have never experienced such a lack of flexibility and customer service. If no rooms had actually been vacated, I would have fully understood the situation - yet, this was not the fact, rooms were indeed vacated, but the rooms division would initially need 5 hours to get the room ready, which in other hotels is done in 30 minutes, if a customer requests an early check-in - which by the way happened due to a change of flights.
