"DO NOT STAY HERE"
The room had a lot of defects. There was no hot water, the hand washer had a defective valve and only one of them worked, faucet and shower leaked, shower had a broken shampoo dispenser, room only had two power outlets--- one of them had loose connections. "Needs a good facelift."
I regret having to write this negative review. This Hotel was formally a grand Hotel that is or should once again become the Icon for the city Willemstad, Curaçao. In its glory days it was an Intercontinental Hotel and had all the elegance and grandeur the chain represents. I am saddened to see it in such a state. It is in a desperate need of a face […] lift and beter management. The staff was pleasant and accomodating inspite working with such a difficult product. My suggestion to the front desk staff, they should be better knowlegible of the room's location and condition.Part of their training shoud familiarizing themselfs with the rooms and location. "Wonderful view, Hotel in bad condition"
The hole hotel seems to be waterdamages, I stayed in two different rooms in two different blocks of the hotel and both suffered from waterdamages. No hot water for my last 3 days it was broken in all the hotel rooms. The pool was ok but even if you called the reception they could not get any staff to service you at the pool bar. "Key drop!"
Returned to the hotel first evening to find the key had fallen off the cracked room key fob. Reception staff then pointed out that they have an old-fashioned 'key-drop' box. Had to wait 15 mins for staff to bother to let me into my room, like it was some sort of punishment. Next morning I find a pro-forma invoice for a "miscellaneous charge" of US$50, […] pushed under the door. "Stay away"
Just because the Plaza Hotel Curacao was built in the 1950's does not equate to "charm." The front desk staff was not friendly nor helpful. Once we got checked in to our room, we discovered only 2 small thread-bare bath towels. We asked for extra towels and the desk clerk said "How many guests?" I answered 'two' the clerk answered "Two guest, two towels" […] Needless to say, we didn't get extra towels. The sheets were torn on the edges and holey. The room bare bones. Only amenity was a safe and the television. Bathroom tile moldy and room had a musty smell. Worst of all, that pond in the open air lobby needs to be emptied of it's fish and water and closed for good. It was just a breeding ground for swarms of mosquitoes. You didn't make it to the elevator fast enough to avoid getting bitten. We had to apply mosquito repellent before leaving our room just to survive exiting and entering the hotel! I eventually had to find a pharmacy to purchase some calamine lotion to soothe the stings. The description given in travel guides and Expedia for this hotel is off the mark. If they must include the Plaza Hotel Curacao, it should be with a cautionary note. "Plaza Hotel- not an ideal choice"
We check in and were guaranteed a room with 2 beds for my wife, 13 year old son, and myself. When we got to our room it only had one bed, and they said that was the best they could do under the circumstances (they showed me what they netted on the booking and indicated there was nothing else they could switch us to for that). So much for the guarantee- […] they did bring in a small roll away that barely fit my son, and the hotel overall was tired and somewhat run down. "Not happy with experience at all"
This hotel is not what it appears. We arrived late in the evening after traveling for over 18 hours it took us 2 hours just to find the hotel because of how difficult it is to navigate in the city no street names ect. It would have been better if it had been daylight. Upon arrival they had no parking available to the guests and the doorman just kept […] telling us to park. When asked where he just kept saying park. Many parked on the side walk so we did too, we were informed that our car would have to be moved by 6 am or we would get a ticket. I walked into the lobby and it was beautiful but the staff acted as if I was bothering him. Our experience was not good at all, Smokey elevator, hallway and room. Black mold on curtains, lampshade, tiles in bathroom, broken mirror, tiles, and cheap broken furnature. We were so tired, down hearted we should have immediatly complained but we did not we just went to sleep. This hotel has overall neglect which is a shame because they are right in the heart of downtown with perfect view of the harbor. We were going to have to stay another night at this hotel on a different day and demanded a better room which they provided. It still was not up to the standards I expected but I could tolorate it much better. The dining room was very nice and their food was very good but it does not make up for the sour taste this hotel left us with. It truly started our vacation on this island off to a bad start. Hotel antigo. Quarto simples e com cheiro de mofo. A internet é free, mas é lenta e não pega em alguns quartos (no meu por exemplo). Optamos por diária sem café-da-manhã, mas não compensou porque o quarto não tem frigobar e tomar café, apesar de estarmos no centro, foi algo extremamente caro (U$10-15, em média por pessoa) e complicado. O centro é bonito, […] mas pequeno e com muitos bêbados, desocupados e pessoas mal-encaradas pelas ruas. As praias são de difícil acesso e mal sinalizadas. As mais próximas são pagas (em média, U$3-10/pessoa/dia + U$ 10-15/espreguiçadeira). De staat van onderhoud (van het torengebouw) is zeer slecht! Slecht sluitende deuren, defecte douches, schimmel in de kamer doordat de kamer zeer vochtig was. De tweede avond liepen de kakkerlakken (4 stuks) door de kamer te paraderen. Hiervan heb ik melding gemaakt bij de receptie, de onderhoudsdienst kwam met een spuitbus verdelgingsmiddel en spoot […] op het ongedierte; Zelf lig je ook nog in dezelfde ruimte in de vieze stank van het verdelgingsmiddel! "Hotel Furada em Curaçao !!!"
Péssimo atendimento por parte do pessoal da recepção, depois do check-in, o recepcionista te aponta o elevador e ai voce tem que se virar para achar o quarto e localizar tudo dentro dele... Os funcionários do hotel te tratam sempre com ar de desconfiança, má vontade, parece até que estão fazendo um favor em te hospedar ali !!!... te fazem esperar séculos […] para atender qualquer tipo de solicitação... tudo tem que ser pago adiantado... uma quantidade enorme de mosquitos na recepção, restaurante e piscina... "El peor hotel en que me he hospedado"
El edificio es viejo y en el piso en el que nos dieron la habitación las paredes estaban rotas y sin pintura, la puerta de la habitación se encontraba abombada por la humedad y el marco oxidado, la cortina del baño se caía a cada momento y el mal olor en la habitación era insoportable. Por otro lado, en la página de Hotels.com se ofrece servicio de […] internet WiFi gratuito en las habitaciones y esto no es cierto, existen dos computadoras en recepción para uso de los huéspedes pero con un cargo absolútamente ridículo. Ni siquiera ofrecen una jarra de agua filtrada en la habitación y la única posibilidad de hidratarse es comprar una botellita de 250 cc por 2 US $ en la tienda del hotel "Si es que se encuentra abierta". En Hotels.com la hora de salida ofrecida es las 12 pm, sin embargo en el hotel nos informaron que era a las 11 AM y cuando les solicitamos salir un poco mas tarde porque nuestro vuelo era a las 8:00 PM. nos informaron que debíamos cancelar 50 US $ para salir a las 3:00 PM, cero excepciones!!!. El único punto favorable es la ubicación, pero a dos cuadras se encuentra el Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino que por 40 US $ más ofrece 1000% mas de servicio, solo por mencionar a uno de los hoteles que se encuentran cerca. "Hotel Plaza Curacao. NO RECOMENDABLE"
Definitivamente uno debe seguir los consejos de otros en cuanto a sus experiencias de viaje. Antes de reservar en este hotel, lei varios comentarios negativos y a pesar de eso hice la reservacion, grave error. Aspectos Negativos: 1. Humedad en pasillos y cuartos, 2.- Camas incomodisimas con almohadas duras y viejas, 3.- Cubrecama viejo y de muy mala […] calidad. 4.- Televisor de los años 80. con malisima recepcion 5.- Baños sin mantenimientos. 6.- Al entrat en la habitacion la cama no estaba arreglada, al decirselo a la camarera lo que hizo solo fue colocar el cubrecama . 7.- El baño no tenia toallas. 8.- La ducha no tenia agua caliente. 9.- Para completar dijimos en recepcion que si nos podian conseguir un taxi al aeropuerto y que nos recomendaran a que hora deberiamos salir para estar a tiempo para nuestro vuelo a las 4.pm. Nos dijeron que bajaramos a la recepcion a la 1:45pm y asi lo hicimos. Al llegar a recepcion nos dijeron que debiamos pagar $50 adicionales por cada habitacion debido a que ya habia pasado la hora del chek out y ademas no nos entregarron recibo del pago.
