This was my first time to Freeport, Grand Bahama. My cousin got married at The Grand Lucayan so that is why I choose to stay there. Awesome hotel!!! I... am a Bahamian and I truly enjoyed myself. I will be bringing my family back for sure for a vacation instead of traveling states side. The staff were amazing they make you feel totally welcome (even when they knew I was Bahamian). The food at the reception was to die for a real Bahamian spread, can think of anything on the menu (and there was a lot on it) that I can complain about. The bed OMG super comfy!!!! Wish I could go back tomorrow. If you are looking to just relax on the beach or by the pool ( there were a number of pools) with a swim up to bar at the Hammerheads bar (awesome). The Grand Lucayan is located in Lucaya, Grand Bahama. The Lucayan Marketplace, positioned across the street from the resort, houses shops and restaurants, and hosts live entertainment. Downtown Freeport is 5 miles away.

Hotel Features.
A 2-story lobby features natural ambience with tropical palm trees and overstuffed seating arrangements. The veranda is furnished with rocking chairs and affords Atlantic Ocean views. Dining options include Portobellos, Erie's Latin American restaurant, China Beach, Willy Broadleaf's international restaurant, and pool bars. This resort offers 90,000 square feet of function space. The 25,000-square-foot Senses Spa & Fitness Center contains a hair salon and a complimentary, fully equipped fitness center. The health spa offers dry saunas, steam rooms, and massage treatment rooms. Recreational options include a 3-section, 600-foot-long serpentine outdoor pool with an infinity edge and a swim-up bar. An infinity-edge beachfront pool offers a shallow shelf that accommodates lounge chairs. A 90-foot heated lap pool and 10-person spa tub is located adjacent to the beachfront pool. A water-sports center offers watercraft rentals and boat excursions. The tennis center offers four lighted courts with a range of surfaces. Golf options include 2 courses, one designed by Robert Trent Jones. The Jim McClean School of Golf is designed with indoor and outdoor training facilities. Isle of Capri Casino provides gaming entertainment.

We visited the property Christmas week. Was surprised the occupancy rate was relatively low for the time period. This has to be the best kept secret in the Bahamas. This was our second trip to the Grand Lucayan and we plan to return again and again. Wi-Fi is free and even works on the beach. Friendly staff, clean rooms, market place across the street with great restaurants and shopping. Want to relax...best place to come.

We absolutely loved our Thanksgiving trip to the Grand Lucaya! The rooms were comfortable and the grounds were beautiful. The gym had great equipment and the lap pool and hot tub just outside was wonderful. We loved having the access to the Market Place across the street & enjoyed the outdoor concert and limbo man! If you are staying on grand bahama, this and it's sister property are the places to stay. We went in the slow season and anything happening on the island was pretty much in our lucaya and surrounding. It had nice upscale facilities without being snobby or uncomfortable. No screaming kids in the pool no intolerant snobs either. Grand bahama was pretty […] quiet while we were there, keep in mind. This seems to be the nicest hotel on the island. We rented a car but not much to see except more beaches, some of them deserted and lovely blue water and soft sand. Locals never go in the water and avoid the sun. They seem bored and depressed, you get a weird vibe from them. Must be anyone with any ambition gets off that island the day they turn 18. Food the same everywhere it's cracked conch and rice, very nice the first few times. Very nice soft sand and blue water, truculent and bored locals who avoid the elements. You see locals going out of their way to avoid touching water. Funny people actually. Not much happening on the island except cruise ships that wash in and out like the tides, floating in and out some thousand tourists in a regular flow from 10 to 3 each day.
