"Pleasant"
Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were nicer than expected . Spacious clean and comfy beds. Beautiful beach and great location across from the Marketplace . We did not eat at any of the hotel restaurants as there were many choices and great deals at the marketplace .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Satisfaction guaranteed!!!"
Hotel was much nicer than we thought. Hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful. Overall the hotel was gorgeous, especially the lobby which was a very nice place to sit and relax. Churchills was absolutely wonderful, with prices about the same as restaurants in the marketplace across the street witch were no where near as nice. My only complaint was […] that there was difficulty in locating postings for restaurant hours in the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Relaxing"
We visited for 2 nights to relax away from work. The hotel surroundings were nice, however at the time the hotel was very quiet. I could imagine in a busier time the hotel would not be as relaxing. The staff in the most part were helpful however working in the Travel industry there was inconsistency in service across the board. The food during the day […] time did however not impress, although Churchills restaurant was fantastic. Dont expect to be able to get 24 hour room service, or have guests to visit you in the hotel without staff been rude and charging you. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"great get away"
Grand Lucayan is a grand old resort. The grounds and landscaping is fantastic. The beach access and pools are great. When we were there some of the restaurants and 2 parts of the resort were closed. I hope this is just off season and not because tourism in Grand Bahama has dropped so much.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, good pool and beach area"
The hotel was clean, nice, had OK sized rooms. Bit annoying having to walk pretty far for the only elevators in the building (think it was 4 elevators for 500 rooms / 10 floors). There weren't too many activites available. There's a marketplace close to the hotel, but it takes a day to check it out and then that's that. In the area, there are jeep […] tours, one can dive and do snorkeling, there are dolphins, tennis courts, horses, etc. Still, if the weather is bad, one with feel there's not much stuff to do. When the weather is great, it's a super area. Nice pool, OK dining options (the hotel has 8-10 different restaurants that are open/closed several days a week). If one is looking for a relaxing week by the pool, just reading, tanning and taking an occassional swim, then the Grand Lucaya is a good choice. However, there are limited stuff to do on Grand Bahamas, so if the weather is bad, one might feel a bit stuck. It's not really possible to use public transport so one has to take cabs everywhere - but there's not that much to see. A national park and some beaches. We were happy with our visit (about 7 days) but we would probably go someplace else the next time we go to the Caribbean. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Relaxing, quiet spot"
Except for noisy next room neighbors twice , our floor on the 10th was nice and quiet. Can't say too much about the food other than Churchill's is over-rated and the food was OK. Room service turned out to be the best for us morning and evening, otherwise we ate at different restaurants at the marketplace.Genuine Expedia guest review

we enjoyed the hotel, our room was large, had a great balcony, clean grounds, nice beach and very nice staff! the service in the restaurants can be slow and sometimes disorganized, but that is true at all the restaurants on the island, just different culture. super convenient to activities, beach, casino, dock, who's and lots of restaurant choices. My wife and I had a very pleasant experience during our stay. The staff was very nice. Our room was clean, and we appreciate that very much. We were very glad that we booked an ocean view room. This is my second stay at this hotel, overall its a nice resort and I plan to go back again. I would like to see the pools being a bit warmer and cash being accepted at the pool bar. "MY STAY @ THE RADISSON/ GRAND BAHAMA/ OUR LUCAYA ?"
Well, when I booked the hotel, it was a Radisson, when I arrived it was not clear what the name was, however, there was still Radisson signage here and there.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Grand Lucayan Thanks for taking the time to rate us on Expedia. So glad you enjoyed the location right on the beach. Sorry for the confusion regarding the naming. We used to be a Radisson hotel, but we are now independent of Radisson, and you caught us in the middle of the change. Thanks for choosing us. And thanks for the feedback concerning the covers. We appreciate it.
"It's still worth the time and money."
We have been vacationing at this resort since it first opened. Sadly, it has suffered from the poor economy and much on the property is currently closed like both hotels on either side of the Radisson and several property restaurants. We had a beautiful ocean view which we highly recommend. Our bathroom needed a little work. Although it was clean, there […] was permanent mold in the grout and the paint was chipping off the cabinetry. The metal soap dish was rusting. Also, the family pool and the infinity pool both need their water quality monitored more closely. The family pool felt like bath water and looked a little green. Aside from all of this, the staff was wonderful and the beds were comfortable and clean. We love the people of Freeport and had a great time. They seem to be doing the best they can with what they have. You just can't beat the beauty or the people of the Bahamas! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Bellmen and housekeeping staff were excellent!"
Upon arrival we had a VERY long wait to check in only to be told our room was not ready and to come back in an hour. We had no problem with that request however when we came back we had to stand in a long long line AGAIN!!! We are taken to our room, where we had paid for ocean front king size bed. We could not see anything but trees and a building. […] After calling dowstairs we did get a room with 2 double beds but it was NOT what we paid for. The bellmen, the men who stored our luggage, and the gentlemen hailing our cabs were ALL WONDERFUL, FRIENDLY, EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. We had room service but it would have been nice to have a restuarant. Ordering beverages at the pool took 30 - 35 minutes every time and and there were only 2 customers. However, the customer service was horrible except for all of the nice bellman. Very hot room. Yes door was closed.. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful Views!"
Check-in was a nightmare. We were directed to the wrong place by THREE separate employees and then waited in the wrong line (because that's where we were told to be THREE times) for 45 minutes. When they recognized their mistake though, they did help us check in quickly after that. Be assertive at check-in and tell them you are NOT with the cruise! The […] hotel grounds were beautiful and the pool was perfect. The service is often hit-or-miss as I've found is VERY common in my experience in the Bahamas - not just the hotel, but everywhere! The best place we found to eat for service, speed, price, and good food was the Dive-In Bar across the street at the UNEXSO complex. It is completely outdoors and was a nice spot to sit and relax. Once we found it, we never ate anywhere else! There are large portions of the hotel that are currently closed. That didn't bother us at all, but I've noticed it as a comment in other reviews. It made for a largely uncrowded resort which we enjoyed. When the cruise came in, we saw the most crowds and unfortunately some very rude people (smoking in the pool - not allowed, eating a WHOLE pizza in the pool). Overall though, we enjoyed each day at the resort. It is nicely maintained. We paid extra for an ocean view room and it was totally worth it! We were on the 5th floor and our view was not obstructed at all, but I wouldn't go much lower for an ocean view. We would stay again! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location!"
This hotel has a great location and a really nice beach. However, there are no umbrellas or shaded areas on the beach and only a few around the pool. The hotel restaurants also leave something to be desired. The food was mediocre and fairly expensive (a $15 hamburger at the pool bar that was cold). We chose to eat across the street from the hotel at […] the Flying Fish Restaurant most nights for dinner where we got amazing food for nearly the same price as the hotel restaurants were charging. The marketplace across the street also has restaurants but they were lacking in quality and equally as expensive as the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Grand Lucayan 2012 Getaway"
We just returned from a 6 night stay at the Grand Lucayan. The facilities were very nice, especially staying across from the Market. I think we went into the market each day either to shop or grab a quick meal. Iries restaurant at the Grand Lucayan was pricey but awesome food. Sorbe's in the Market was great for breakfast. La Med's and the little restaurant […] next to it (can't remember the name) served awesome food and wasn't very expensive. The "Dive In" at Unexso was also a great place to eat. Note: You can go out snorkling about 2 miles off of the beach to Rainbow Reef right from the Grand Lucayan for $35 all day.....back and forth. Well worth it. The Dolphin encounter was great but too expensive. Kayaking in the Mangroves was awesome and our tour guide Ricardo was the best. Ask about the locals "fish fry". Paradise Cove is also a nice beach and good snorkling. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"great vacation"
We were a little nervous after reading some of the negative reviews on this resort but we were very pleased. The beach was very pretty and they did a great job of keeping the sand and beaches well groomed. The resort was very well maintained. The location is great right across from the market place. The breakfast buffet was very well priced and the […] food good. The China Beach was also very good and had a great view. The China Grill was not worth the trip. You are better off going accross the street to Subway. I believe all the other places in the hotel to eat were closed. It was a little quiet but we actually enjoyed that. Not too often you can enjoy a beach to yourself. The casino was also quiet but nice to be able to get a table if you enjoy the table games. I would recommend this resort to anyone that would like a quiet vacation. When the cruise ships come in the resort changes to a busy place. We enjoyed when the cruise ships were not in port. The resort sells day passes and the pools and beaches get crowded. The food is not as good as some other travel destinations and the service is also a little slower. If you go in prepared for that you will not be dissappointed. Overall, beautiful resort and great beach. We had a 9th floor room with an ocean view and worth the upgrade just for the view alone. You can also rent scooters across the street. We thought that would be fun. Don't!!! Scary...Bad equiptment and we did not feel safe on the roads. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great ocean view, friendly staff!"
We had a suite on the eighth floor and found it quite luxurious. The room had a kitchenette with some dishes, a mini fridge, a microwave, a sink, nearby access to an ice machine (no ice bucket though), a king size bed, two glorious balconies overlooking the ocean, two flat screen TVs (one did not seem to work), free Ethernet and wireless Internet, nice […] furniture, bath tub, shower, spacious bathroom, it was excellent. The TV had Showtime, HBO, some cable channels, but we would have preferred a PPV movie option as well. The hotel grounds are expansive, there are plenty of shops, bars, restaurants, and things to do nearby. The concierge also hooked us up with some fun outings. We would definitely go back, the people of the Bahamas are as warm and cheery as the climate! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Grand Lucayan Resort"
The Grand Lucayan Resort is the place to stay. It's charm and elegance surpassed our expectations of a Bahama vacation resort. Everything you need is within walking distance and most of that is located right there on the facility. There were four main pool areas that allows a lot of people to be using the facility, yet it never seemed crowded. There […] were plenty of pool chairs even private areas right on the beach for those honeymooners. The sand is soft as powder. The rooms were cleaned daily and a turn down service each evening. The views are spectacular. Just take a taxi, as they drive on the opposite side of the road! We will go back again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I loved the parade & the steel drum player by the pool. I did not like that I had to bring pool towels back by 6pm or be charged $25.00 each. We enjoyed our stay very much. Everyone who worked at the hotel or at the outside restaurants or vendors were all very friendly and courteous. The room had a great view, we asked for a room above the 5th floor and we were able to see the ocean and the adjoining hotel (which […] was not open at the time of our stay). The pools and pool area were very clean and refreshing. Beach area was well kept also. We found a daily activity program at the end of our trip. "Great trip...overall."
The overall experience was great. The hotel grounds and beach were fantastic. Grand Bahama itself is more of and island for a relaxing beach vacation, and not one for nightlife and shopping. The only minor glitch is that initially the hotel tried to put us in a room with two double beds instead of the king size bed which we requested through Expedia. "My Grand Lucayan Experience"
The hotel doesn't let you check in early. Our flight got in around 1:00 and we had to wait around until 3 before we could get our room. We waited in line to check in originally, and they said we had to come back at 3 to check in. A flight came in later on, right around that time and now we had to wait in an even longer line. We had booked an oceanfront […] room, and we got a marina view. We had to call down to the front desk to get it figured out. Took about 30 minutes. For all the inconvenience, we got upgraded to the Lanai Suites. The suites were very nice and it was an enjoyable stay there! The beach was nice and so was the pool. There are 2 sides to the hotel. The high rise has a pool area and the Lanai suites have a pool on that side with a bar (not always open). Also, the towel hut on the lanai side is not always open, which was annoying. The grounds at the hotel are very beautiful. Food is pricey, but the Marketplace is right across the street. Plenty of places to eat there. Overall, we had a great stay. Very nice hotel right on the beach and a short walk to local restaurants. Our ocean view room was very nice. Staff at the hotel was always pleasant and willing to help. "Loved it. Great family vacation"
The Radisson Grand Lucayan was beautiful. I was surprised by some of the negative reviews of this resort, since I found the resort to be fabulous. The resort is older but well maintained. The resort is very large and a lot of the rooms are unoccupied. We stayed in the Breakers building (the high rise S shaped building) which was very nice and clean. […] Check-in was easy. All the staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Drink and food service was slow. Resort food was ok and overpriced. We ate most meals at the Port Lucaya Marketplace directly across the street. I highly reccommend Pisces and Agave. I was not impressed with Zorbas. There was a Subway and Domino's in the marketplace which was resonanably priced ( ex. Foot-long sub 8.99 and medium pizza 12.99). Chi-bah in marketplace had a full service starbucks and excellent breakfast and lunch. Also, the resort offers a full American breakfast daily at the Willy Broadleaf restaurant (11.99 per person plus 15% gratuity) which was great. The beach and pools were great. The sand is so soft and cool. The water is absolutely gorgeous. I highly recommend Pat's and Dianne's Fantasia snorkeling cruise. The two story ferry is complete with a waterslide and rock climbing wall. Also they take you to a reef just off shore where you get to see an amazing variety of fish. The crew was great and helpful. "Beautiful but Hurting"
You can tell that this location used to have a lot of tourism but it has been hit by the recession. Half of the hotel is shut down because there are not enough people staying there. They have only 1 place to eat at during the day (lunch) and the service is VERY SLOW. It is far away from one side of the resort so be ready for a walk. The maps of the […] hotel are not great so just go exploring on your own and you will be fine. The hotel itself is beautiful and it is sad that most of it is not in use. The pools are very clean and a great temperature. The infinity pool (they technically have 2) is amazing but the better ( your chairs are in the water) and larger one is very far away from the food and drinks unless it is cruise ship day then they open a small hut. The town was wonderful! You can literally walk there in 2 minutes and you'd have something more similar to a straw market on your right (we didn't go there) or a small town on your left (we went everyday). The restaurants had great food, though they are pricey, but depending on where you go you could be spending over an hour for food to be on your table. Shops were nice but close early, usually by 6pm everyday which is a bit inconvenient if you like to lay by the pool during the day. Beware! Pop machines and casino machines do not take Bahamian money only American so if you get Bahamian change ask for American so you can use it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Loved It"
We had so much fun. The setting is beautiful, with a white sand beach and two lovely pool areas. The hotel has a large capacity which it seems to be struggling to fill, but that makes for more space, and the staff is trying very hard to make it pleasant and stress-free. The hotel has several nice restaurants and poolside bars/grills, but you also have […] the option to cross the street to the harbor area for many more choices and great breakfasts. We liked the food- fresh seafood, vegetables, pasta, not too expensive. The hotel features a marching carnival-style band every evening, and there was a cocktail party with fireworks on Saturday night. Grand Bahama is a quiet island, but if what you like to do is relax by the pool with a cool drink, maybe snorkle, take a boat to a even more uncrowded beach, and enjoy your loved ones, it doesn't get better. I didn’t like the fact that your reserved room “isn’t guaranteed” […] and when my husband and I checked in, they didn’t even tell us that we were not getting what we paid for. When we asked about it, they seemed disinterested and annoyed with us because the “ocean view king guestroom is not guaranteed” and did nothing to find out if there are any available. The room was not like the pictures – broken refrigerator with a towel in it, broken tiles in the bathroom, stained bathtub, etc. – we didn’t even bother to tell anyone since they probably wouldn’t have done anything about it anyways. It was ok since we didn’t spend much time in the room – the beach was where we spent most of our time. The location of the hotel is great, just a few minute walk away from the Marketplace across the street. I loved almost everything about our stay but I would probably not go back to the same island again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent value"
Overall we had a very pleasant experience. We were looking for a low keyed, affordable vacation at the beach and Grand Lucayan delivered.Genuine Expedia guest review
