Howard Johnson Hotel - Isla Verde

The rooms were rather small,a room for 3 was a room for 2 with an extra bed leaving no room to move.Rooms were clean,location was adequate next to Burger king ,in front of a Boutique hotel-restaurant La Plague/Beach Club worth visiting.Breakfast on 10th floor was a pleasant surprise with a view of the surroundings.

The staff were great, cleaning service was fine, but the hotel itself is not well-maintained at all, air circulation is horrible and rooms get very stuffy at night. Also, lots of noise coming out of the bathroom, the vents don't work, and the tubs all have rust stains!!!

The lobby is remodeled, but the rooms are not. The rooms are run down, the bathroom is small and damaged, old. Faucets are bad. There was mold on the ceiling of one room and the fridges are way too old.

Sure its lower in price than the other Isla Verde hotels. But for a minimally lower price couldn't they give the bathroom upkeep? Doors falling apart, toilet set peeling paint, bathtub drains hardly work. The A/C gives a stinky musty smell to the room and the breakfast if way below minimum standards. Tanned and torn towels. Terrible bed matress, extremely used with a depression in the center. No pool towels available (they say they were in the middle of washing them). Good quality toiletries available. Friendly staff. Good continental breakfast. Clean pool.

Completely outdated and uncomfortable. The pictures are not accurate and I would not recommended this hotel to anyone. Pay a little more money and stay closer to old San Juan. The hotels there will probably still be really outdated but atleast you'll be in a nice area and you can walk around outside.

The location of this hotel is awesome but the beds are aweful. I woke up with back pain every day. The mattress made me not reccomend this hotel since there are other hotels in the same area, you can find a hotel in the same area that provides better sleeping time.

My husband is a Navy sailor and we had a family emergency and had to fly next day to Puerto Rico to the funeral of his parents. We decided to stay in this hotel because of the location, we stayed four nights. I have stayed at Howard Johnson hotel a few times over the years during my trips to Puerto Rico but this time I didn't like it too much. First of all, the room they put us in was too small and right across from the elevator. We have a baby and needed a crib and it wouldn't of fit so well so I asked for a bigger room. They gave a bigger room (room 602) […] but the bathroom was awful. The sink counter was broken and water would seep through the crack and wet the floor. The bathroom ceiling had mold all over it and peeling and stained. I didn't want to look up when taking a shower. The toilet got clogged and I had to ask front desk to take care of that. They were nice about it and did so quickly. The hallway when you got off the elevator had a really bad old trash smell which I also told the front desk about. They freshened it up but the next day it smelled the same way. One thing that we love about this hotel is that its right across the street from the beach and that it has a parking lot with lower rates than most other hotels. Breakfast is typical continental. The room was very old and small and they advertised free breakfast which was a terrible joke. They had one pot of oatmeal and a few slices of bread. Nothing was refilled or replaced and we had to go elsewhere to eat. We booked the room because it is financially beneficial for us to feed the family breakfast when they offer it for free. Not the case […] here. Good location though. I would suggest looking elsewhere. The Marriott was the place to be for sure. More expensive but MUCH better and worth the price, right on the beach with a goregous pool and super nice lobby. Read more

By simple I mean don't expect frills.. The staff was nice and the service good. But rooms are somewhat small and worn. My toiley seat looked as if it had had been rubbed with sand paper... I mean, should a toilet seat really show that much "wear"? The pool was fine but small ( beware one 3' section is deeper than it states- closer to 3'6"- important […] when swimming with little ones. Checking in was a nightmare, room wasn't ready, front desk agent said maids are at lunch when they get back the room will be ready, also said she doesn't work in that department. Front desk manager stood there and did not say a word to his front desk agent to the way she spoke to me, I will not recomment anyone to stay here, air condition was broken […] and hair dryer. Very rude staff. Assigned room without windows. When asked to change, staff was rude, plus asked for more money. Then after they ruined my trip they attempted to offer my a different room. Not recommended. No wonder Punta Cana is the place to go...and I am Puertorican.

The hotel was very nice and clean in the lobby area. I thought I had made a great choice but as I got in my room it was totally a different place. The walls appeared to be repaired but not painted, lighting in the room was horrible. The mirror closet doors were cracked. The bathroom was clean but it could of looked better. The room was in very bad condition. the towels were stained and thread bare, the air conditioning could not be adjusted and the tub was badly chipped. The toilet was not securely pinned down so in sort of danced when u sat down. The plumbing is very noisy and u can hear the upstairs toilet flushing throughout the night. They stuck us in a smoking room […] even though our reservation clearly said non-smoking. My husband and I having never smoked almost choked. Some of the staff were great . However, others were abrupt and uncooperative. It seems they get a commission off of tours etc so they only offer u these options. There is a guide book in the lobby and this was very helpful. The info they gave us was almost always wrong. We meet a guy at the bus stop who was much better informed. The continental breakfast was satifactory, the pool was nice. The resturant downstairs is very good for casual dinning and the are many fast food restuarant nearby. There is also an amazing police presents. Read more
