Howard Johnson Hotel - Isla Verde

When we arrived and checked in, we walked into one of the tiniest hotel rooms I have ever been in. Two beds were squeezed into a tiny room. I literally had to climb over my mother to get to the bathroom. Also, when I turned on the television, there was NO SERVICE!

Bad my shoes was lost and noone reported fiding my shoes. My bathroom had issues draining the water I reported it a guy came but wasn't fixed.

Will not stay at this hotel again unless I want to go to the beach. The beach is literally across the street and beautiful. The hotel sucks. The AC is too cold and would be unbearable for a baby. The windows fog up and you must use a blow dryer to view the mirror. Guest was smoking next door which I saw from our balcony, we called the front desk several […] times to complain since the smoke was entering our room and no one picked up. Call was ignored. We knew this because we went downstairs right after and there were two people sitting at reception. Pool is nice but small. Resteraunt is not all what it seems to be. I found out that there is an ice maker but reception failed to tell us so we went without ice for the whole stay. Continental breakfast was awful. Cold coffee, no milk and just toast and a few pastries. Nothing compared to what I had before. Had to go to Burger King for breakfast. The bed was very comfortable. King size and view was great. This place was so bad that we ended up staying at a friends hotel on the floor rather then sleeping there. The room smelled so bad and there were blood stains on the carpeting. NEVER STAYING THERE AGAIN!!!

Let me preface this review by saying that we paid a similar price the night before to stay at a beautiful, luxurious oceanfront resort, so I don't think my criticisms are unreasonable. So the problems with this place: 1) NO WINDOW- it felt like we were staying in an isolation cell; 2) the shower flooded the bathroom, leaving a 1/2 inch of standing water […] on the floor; 3) the staff treated us with indifference. For example, when we couldn't get the elevator to work to get to the breakfast buffet, the lady at the front desk did not offer to help or even apologize. The best part of this was the location. But for the price, note that it is across the street with no direct access to the beach. Read more

The staff were very rude, the room wasn't the cleanest, but the beds were very comfortable. San Juan parties until 5:00am so take earplugs if you need sleep before a long flight.

This hotel is a dump. Do not stay here. First of all, the Howard Johnson chain is not that great. We initially stayed at Howard Johnson Ponce and the beds were hard, and we had to pay for a refrigerator per day. That was fine except the fact that near the airconditior there were insects, ants i think. The custodian came to our room twice to spray raid […] - and it didnt work. I told the man to seal the whole, i have my 1 yo running around, but he didnt understand (and i told him in spanish). I thought this place was bad until i booked a room at Howard Johnson San Juan (cardivascular ave) - at this point we were stuck in P.R. due to hurricain irene. This hotel is in a Hospital! I felt like i was in jail. We didnt stay here & was immediately transferd to HJ Isla Verde. Horrible hotel. the gym was closed, equipment broken, had to pay for parking, the room was digusting. It was so dirty that when i came out the shower i could not stop itching (i used my usualy soap). it was so dirty that i put my white towel next to theirs and the hotels towels were a dingy gray color. it was not up to par and i recommend people spring for a better hotel, its worth the $. I had an awful experience at this hotel. The staff were very rude. They offered a continental breakfast with our stay. the 4th day we were there i forgot to bring the voucher for breakfast and this staff lady gave us a really hard time. Then she said that i could bring it back up once we were done eating. Three times she told me im gonna need your voucher […] for your breakfast in front of everyone eating there. Then proceeded to tell my mother the same thing. i told her that i would bring up not a probelm to continue asking me while im trying to eat breakfast with my family. She got really nasty with me and told that she didnt have to let me even eat there. i was really upset so we left and never ate there again. I talked to the front desk and asked to speak with the manager, he wasnt there they said he would call me on my cell phone. He never did. Also we had 4 people in our room. everyday i ask to call for more towels. They would only leave 3 towels & 1 washcloth. One day we came back to our room at about 3:30 & the maid never cleaned our room. When i called down to the front office they said that she had until 6pm to clean up the room. im sorry htats not acceptalbe. i have never dealt with that ever. When they finally cleaned the room, all they did was make the bed. Never gave us fresh towels. I will never stay at this hotel ever again. Read more
