The University of London and the British Museum give Bloomsbury a bookish air. Charlotte Street offers good restaurants, while Tottenham Court Road has electronic stores to suit all budgets, and links to the 300 shops of buzzing Oxford Street. Trendy Soho is a few minutes away by foot. Full of local character, it offers interesting pubs, top restaurants, West End theatres and a rich, sometimes risqué nightlife.

"Montague on the Gardens (Hotel) Bloomsbury, Londo"
While the standard room for Expedia rates, it was while smaller exceptionally well decorated and furnished. Design made the bathroom feel much bigger. Most important the public spaces were exceptional and the staff most solicitous!!. However, it was not a cheap date. Fair price through Expedia. Of course, drinks and breakfast in hotel was expensive. […] Show me a hotel where is is not. We would return and will - when the next occasion brings us to London. "An Oasis!"
The Montague is amazing in almost every way. Being an American, I found the room just a bit too small and almost claustrophobic, but, to be frank, my purpose in being there wasn't to stay in the room to begin with. The amenities are first class all the way, the bed was terrific, the rain shower was quite unique and pleasant, the overall service was […] outstanding. I quibble at best on the room size. The concierge and Michel and Tehrin in the hotel bar were fantastic--each deserves a major raise--but then, every one of the associates was just as good and just as welcoming. If you want to stay close, but still feel a step removed, and in an almost oasis in the city, the Montague has it all. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Small but very nice."
My stay at the Montague was outstanding. The only reason that I did not rate the comfort of the room as a five is that it was very tiny. I would suspect that is the norm though in London. The bed was comfortable, the street was quiet and the amenities were very nice. The linens, towels etc were of very high quality. The staff could not have been more […] pleasant or helpful. I did not eat in the hotel but enjoyed a couple of evenings in the pub lounge which was a great refuge from the busy city. Nice selection of wine and drinks, not a large selection of beer but adequate. There was usually a piano player at night which was nice. It is on the back side of the British Museum, a five block walk from the Russell Square Tube Station, which is on the Picadilly Line to Heathrow and about five blocks from the Totenham Court station which serves the Central line that gets you to many of the London attractions. I guess the best thing I can say about a hotel is that I slept well and woke up refreshed and ready to start my day and I can say that about the Montague. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Small, unpretentious, loaded with charm."
The rooms are small, yes, but beautifully decorated and comfortable. The public areas are charming, too.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A special experience"
This is a fabulous hotel. I've travelled all over the world and the level of service was fantastic. They called up after we got into the room to make sure everything was ok. Gave us free coffee when we arrived. The bar and outdoor areas are really nice. Live music every evening ex Sunday. Each room is individually decorated; our had silk drapes and […] wallcovering. Very lush. I especially appreciated the pullout sofa for our extra guest. My one complaint was with the conceirge. It seemed every restaurant reservation was screwed up--either made for the wrong evening or non-existent. Not sure if this would be the fault of the restaurant or hotel. They did try to compensate for one evening by getting us an earlier reservation. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Very classy and comfortable hotel"
I know this is London, where hotel rooms are small, but mine was either a bit (emphasize bit)too small or a bit too crowded or some of both. Having said that, the room was very comfortable. The food was very good, the bar very classy and comfortable, and the service friendly and very professional.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Montague on the Gardens"
Traveling as a single woman first time in London, the Montague was a perfect choice for the location and conveniences that were provided. "Montague on the Gardens in London"
I have stayed here before and plan to go back on my next visit to London. I can object to the size of the room, but it is certainly no worse than most other London hotels in that regard. Otherwise, over a two-week stay, I was always comfortable and treated with courtesy and kindness. The hotel is located--quite literally--around the corner from the […] British Museum, and other interesting sites such as Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Oxford Street and several more, are within convenient walking distance. . . and I speak as a 70-year-old with ankle and foot-arch problems. Nearby underground stations include Russell Square and Tottenham Court Road, and several useful bus routes are a block or two away. The point here is that the Montague is well located for getting around London, and is a cozy spot for relaxation if you just want to kick back and let the world go by. And at least once, you ought to try the afternoon tea in their conservatory. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect lovely service"
I chose the hotel because I was tied to this location as my friend was in a nearby hotel and it had very good reviews. My overall experience was perfect! the room was as small as I had expected a single room in London to be, but nevertheless the way it has been organised and decorated made up for it! I actually enjoyed lazing around the room! The concierge […] and reception were the perfect combination of friendly and professional. The doorman was very thoughtful and helpful. I didnt use the restaurant, but I had coffee in the lobby area, it was a pleasant place to set in. I would absolutely love to came back here again. I actually did try to book for a trip back but sadly it was so short notice and there were no availabilities. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good location. Quiet hotel"
My wife and I booked this hotel for an overnight stay after we had been to see War Horse at the New London Theatre about 10 minutes walk away. The hotel is near Russell Square and an easy walk from the tube station. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and approachable. The rooms are rather small but clean and the beds are comfortable. "Huge overpriced. Hugely disappointing."
I stayed at the Montague for just one Saturday night in July. I have never stayed in 4 star accommodation before so I thought it would be a treat for myself and my girlfriend. What a disappointment. I booked a Superior King Room but the room they put me in had a double size bed in it (I sell beds and have a King Size at home). I asked reception to confirm […] what standard of room I was in. They couldn't (or wouldn't). I asked them to check what room my booking said I should have. They fobbed me off with something about that being down to the reservation team and could I give them 5 mins. They showed me another room which was a bit fresher and as I had things to do I took it. In hindsight and from checking the descriptions on their website, I am starting to believe they sold me a Superior King on offer through Expedia, then on arrival they put me in a standard double room. The deal price I got on the King roughly matches the standard rate for a double. Coincidence? The individual staff at the Montague were however very nice and perfectly managed being professional and friendly at the same time. The overall vibe of the hotel is supposed to be quirky retro chic but it actually feels a bit dated. Breakfast was extra. £40 for two people for sausages and beans from the buffet. It has a cool bar and cigar terrace area but the drinks were so over priced you are better of going out and exploring. Last words - The Montague just isn't all that. Try somewhere else. "Montague on the Gardens-"
A very opulent hotel, slightly too opulent for me. And definitely off-putting to have breakfast not included in that kind of room rate! Lots and lots of staff , yet they lost my poached egg order at breakfast on the second morning. On the plus side the waitress noticed I was still waiting and went to check, updated me and apologised. On the minus side […] I waited another age for my eggs even after she had given them the order again. It was also disappointing at that price that the cooked breakfast buffet was somewhat industrial and the a la carte options quite limited... Also butter did not arrive until toast did, so had to wait on the day I had the continental breakfast, could not eat the rolls until the toast was there. And staff failed to replenish the jams selection on the tables. Minor niggles but at those prices there should be no niggles... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Montague on the Gardens"
Booked this hotel via Hotels.com at a price stated to be inclusive of all taxes and fees. When I checked out, they insisted that the price was VAT exclusive, so added that back on, despite my assuring them that the quoted price included VAT. I checked later, and sure enough...I phoned the hotel and was assured initially that Hotels.com website made […] clear that prices excluded VAT, but when I explained that I had the website open in front of me and it made expressly clear that all fees and taxes were included, I was told that they only dealt with Expedia and that Hotels.com was nothing to do with them. I explained that that couldn't be right, as the hotel had clearly taken the booking from Hotels.com as it was recognised when I arrived, so there was clearly a relationship between Hotels.com and the hotel. I was then told that I would be given a refund of the VAT.I'll leave you to make your own minds up on this, but I was sufficiently angry to call the managing director of the Montague chain, who was extremely polite and pleasant. But beware - at an extra 20%, the VAT is not something you should have to pay twice! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very good small boutique hotel, well located for British Museum, Covent Garden and Theatres. Staff great - very welcoming and attentive to all needs. "Nice but expensive"
Not as close to the underground as you would think from the spin especially when raining but is very close to the British Museum which is worth a couple of days on its own! The service at the hotel is very good and with a quaint courtesy. Good breakfast at a price but you can choose English or the cheaper Continental breakfast (and this is excellent). […] Keep away from the bar which must be one of the most expensive in Europe. The general area of Bloomsbury is delightful and full of hotels, many of which not quite as pricey as The Montague. Pleasant hotel but very expensive for what you get. Rooms small. Theoretically we had a larger room so I'd hate to see the small ones. "The Montague - cozy, clean and close"
This hotel is small gem among London hotels, small, with unique atmosphere and nice service. It is close to underground and all important places one wants to see in London.
