"Historic"
Loved loved loved this hotel! It's so hard to find a decent smoking room nowadays but, behold, The Hotel Lawrence:)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel did not have a comforter on bed, friendly staff, but hotel is old.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I expected more from the appearance of the hotel compared to what I show on the internet. The chairs in the lobby was very dirty. And my last night I had to walk up from the lobby to the 9th floor and the young lady at the desk was not sensitive to misfortune of the guest; stating she was tire of hearing the word elevator.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not good"
No parking lot. Dirty dirty rooms, stains all over carpet that looked 30 years old. No fridge or microwave. Water poured through our ceiling at 6 am and no one responded. Staff were dishonest. Just dark gloomy and scary. Reminded me of The Shining. Shuttle/ Valet man was nice and was close to the Convention Center.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Better off staying someplace further"
You tell me how comfortable it can get when you're woken up at 8am on Sunday by the fire alarm because someone burnt their toast. Couple that with a small hotel room with an even smaller TV, you're better off at a motel where rooms are twice the size and half the cost to stay in them.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Elevator was not operational / Parking is separate"
I was disappointed that the elevator was not operational and the parking lot was separate from the hotel and payment was in a meter box. I did not feel safe having to go out to my car in the early morning or evening.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"An undercapitalized flop house"
My office was under the impression that this was a recently restored/renovated boutique hotel. Such could not be further from the case. While all the substructure and potential is there for something quite fine, that possibility is at least ten million dollars away from the reality of existing conditions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good basic stay"
If you're looking for a basic place to stay that's within walking distance of union station and very easy to get to/fom, this will do it. It's definitley an older hotel with it's perks, but it works for what it is. The staff were very friendly. There was even a milk and cookies night cap in the evenings.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old Tired Hotel with Charm"
This is a Hotel built in 1927. And for the most part it is very original to the day. The rooms are very small and there isn't a lot of extra creature comforts that come with it except for the warm cookies and milk served every night in the lobby( nice touch) the staff was always helpful and friendly though. If you can overcome the initial shock and […] thru the first night, it starts to grow on you. hope this helps. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"No Fuss-Right by JFK Museum near Downtown"
I was able to walk all around Downtown Dallas from the Hotel. It's older, but has that charm of and older hotel with the upkeep of something new. The staff was very friendly, breakfast included, and milk and cookies at bedtime! Everything in the room worked, beds comfortable, hot water stayed hot, and Starbucks coffee and Tazo tea availabe. The only […] negative was that the internet connection (free with your room) went out sometimes in the evening...during the daytime hours it seemed ok - I was able to work for several hours after walking Dallas. Public transportation available from the hotel (shuttles around town) and their light rail is within a few walking block of the hotel. Had a good stay. Close to sports stadium and Katy trail where you can run (the trail starts about 1-1.5 miles from the hotel) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Excellent location, though the hotel was somewhat rundown and elevator extremely slow.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stayed for one night; close to convention center"
Staff was very helpful, room was clean, and even though it was a smoking room (on 10th floor) I didn't smell any lingering smoke. mattress was pretty bouncy, but room was otherwise cozy and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good choice for a conference"
I stayed at the Lawrence while attending a conference at the Convention Center. They offer good van service, but it's very easy to walk to the convention center. Yes, like any other American city, parts of Dallas empty out at night and you have to be careful. Turn left and left again out of the front door and you'll find Cindi's, a breakfast and lunch […] place popular with Dallas cops. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"I can't believe this place passes inspection!"
The location is close to the Dallas Convention Center, but the hotel is very dirty. The computer at the reception desk has an inch of dust on it just to give you a clue about first impressions. The rugs throughout the hotel smell musty and old. The bathrooms look nice on the website, but in actuality the bright orange paint was used to mask the moldy, […] old walls, and they didn't bother to replace the actual tub and mine didn't have a drain cover. There are also metal doors by the stairs that bang loudly all day/night. The breakfast bar has a few muffins, but that is about it. Gross. Ugly. Blah. Are the three words that best describe this hotel. And if you call for a refund or ask to change rooms, they won't honor your request. This place should be shut down. "Convenient location, but subpar service"
The hotel was very convenient for my purposes as I was attending a conference at the convention center. However, the service is far below acceptable. First, the furniture in the lobby is old and needs to be replaced. The elevator is also on its last legs. One day, they did not make-up the bed or room, then when I complained, the assistant suggested […] that I had put up the "Do not disturb" sign, which I did not do. Also, the internet service and guest computer did not work properly. The continental breakfast was completely unacceptable -- no fresh fruit; the muffins were full of sugar and tasted like they were bought at a 7-eleven. Overall, not worth the money. Horrible breakfast. One guest elevator was a pain. It is an old building which is fine and could be embraced but the interior tries to be modern which makes it look like they are just covering up the old part. Just kind of an uncomfortable hotel. Van service around downtown was great. Staff was good except for the front desk lady who hid around the […] corner to talk on her cell phone leaving the front desk unattended in the middle of the day. "Terrible"
Photos on the website are not from the hotel we stayed at. The hotel amenities are from the 80's and made the business trip very difficult; and the work out room has old equipment that does not work.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great stay"
We stayed from Thur 3/713 to Sun 3/10/13 it was our first time to stay with Hotel Lawrence. I loved the atmosphere of the older bldg and the staff could not have been nicer. If you are looking for fancy this is not the place, however, if you are looking for charm with over the top customer service that is walking distance to downtown Dallas history then […] this is the place for you. You get what you pay for.The room was clean but small. The only negative is the parking situation, we ended up paying over $50 for two days of parking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Terrible Stay"
Terrible stay...elevator was broken and supposedly had been for weeks. Had to walk up 6 flights of a tiny staircase carrying luggage and a kid. Valet parking was non-existant. Supposed "courtesy" van didn't seem like a courtesy rather an inconvenience to the driver. Hotel is across the street from the criminal courthouse and down the street from the […] jail..had some not so pleasant individuals hanging out outside the "hotel". Employees were not helpful. Room was too small; elevator was way too slow and antiquated; had to pay to park(should have been included in the ridiculous daily rate); carpeting needed to be replaced; mold on the floor and on the walls; place could very easily be classified as a "dump". On the brighter side: the staff were very cordial and accommodating, and the continental breakfast […] with the Starbuck's coffee was superb. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel has lots of character! This is the second time that we have stayed here for our annual business convention.....I am already looking forward to making it a third time next year! "Internet is deceiving"
The only two redeeming qualities about this hotel were its location and friendly staff. This property must be a cash cow for the owner as he puts no money into it at all. The carpets were dingy, ice machines did not work, the "business center" was one computer in the lobby that was at least 20 years old and the printer did not work. Every electronic […] piece in the hotel was from the '80's. The staff works very hard to overcome the owner's flagrant shortcomings in maintaining the property. This property could be a winner if they put a little something back into it with proper maintenance. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A decent budget alternative"
Hotel Lawrence has a lot of history behind it, from its design to the alleged resident ghost, and it obviously was grander in an earlier time. Now it shows the wear of age, with some rooms having had lackadaisical renovations and others needing attention. Clearly, everything is run on a low budget, but that is reflected in much lower prices than other […] places that are in the immediate area. If you need to attend something at the Convention Center (a very brief walk) but are on a tight budget, the Lawrence is an acceptable alternative to the $200+/night featured spots. "Good Experience"
The hotel staff was friendly, and the room was clean. The hotel itself is just old (built in the early 1900's). It was clean and everything was in working order (and the shower was amazing with new fixtures), but the carpet had burn mark from iron, furnishings had major scuffs as did the paint.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Charming but puzzling"
A puzzling hotel. I can't figure out the management/owner's philosophy: are they just trying to save money? The staff were really friendly and helpful but often didn't know the answer to basic questions about the hotel. I liked my room; it was small but clean. However, a colleague changed her room twice because it was filthy, and then left the hotel […] early for a large chain hotel. The Hotel Lawrence's advertised "workout room" had just 2 pieces of equipment, and both had clearly been out of service for a while (buttons had been punched out) but staff were not aware. The elevator broke on my last day and the staff were not aware. The breakfast buffet was more generous than many, but the quality of the food was mediocre. The location is good: 1 block from Union Station and just slightly farther to West End station, and right by the Old Red Museum and other sights. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

By his was the nastiest, filthiest place that I have ever stayed. Will tell all of my friends about it, advise them to never, ever go there.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Disappointing"
I've never left a review, but felt this one was in order. If you are looking for a historic hotel, this may be your choice. If that is not your sole reason for staying there, be prepared that the rooms are very small, the building is old (historical feel), and there is little to NO buffer from hallway or outside noise. My particular room was TINY […] with a peeling bathtub floor, a leaky shower faucet that when turned on sprayed across the entire bathroom floor, and a leaky toilet that ran until you manually took the back lid off and fixed it. There were curtains on the windows, but they were sheer curtains that didn't block outside light or from being able to see in, and the thick valances to the side of the window, weren't on tracks long enough to pull and cover the entire window. So privacy was an issue for a single female and low street view room. The receptionist upon arrival was not at all happy in assisting customers. But, I will say the departing customer service was much more friendly and helpful. The receptionist at checkout was curtious and friendly, as was the valet attendant. "pass on this one"
It wasn't the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, but close. It's hard to drive to - lots of one-way streets in the area - and the entrance isn't very obvious, nor is the valet parking. Hotel parking is available but you have to go to the registration desk and have them call the valet, but it's hard to find a place out front to park your car while you […] do all this. (FYI, only overnight parking outside the hotel requires cash payment up front). Hotel is really shabby and run-down, windows were drafty, and heat was hard to control so I was either too cold or too hot. Shower was mediocre, tub was old and beat up, and the bathroom had absolutely no shelf space for toiletries. On the bright side, the Founders Grill restaurant is excellent and the staff there are friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
