San Diego’s waterfront airport lies northwest of downtown, which is home to the San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park stadium, and the Gaslamp Quarter’s. That historic neighborhood’s restaurants and bars are the hub of the city’s nightlife. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo form a green swath in this urban jungle. Offshore, Coronado Island offers postcard views of the city skyline.

"Gas Lamp District"
This was a very historic hotel, but is dated. The elevator is hard to use, but is from the 1913s. The problem with this and every other hotel in the area is the lack of parking and therefore you have to use the valet service, which is great, but does take some additional time and planning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Old but good"
Nice, very old (1913) hotel. Staff was helpful with a hotel.com fax (fax?!) snafu. Rooms are sized for 1913 when people were all 4'11" tall. Had to go into the hall to change my mind. Nice bed. Medium-to-cruddy wireless was included. 24hr restaurant attached to hotel provided entertaining drunk-watching on Friday night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Stay at the St Jams"
The hotel is lovely and convenient. Can't beat airport shuttle service, great location, and nice people. Being able to use the fully carpeted stairs to go down from the room was awesome. Noise from the street is more than some hotels but that can't really be helped. Nice room, nice stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"UNDER rated!"
I read a number of mediocre reviews on this location, but booked regardless due to price and convenience of the location. I arrived expecting a pretty run down old hotel. We were surprised at every corner. The architecture was awesome, the hotel was spotless, everything worked properly... I couldn't find a flaw! The staff was professional and friendly, […] including those at the attached (unaffiliated) restaurant / bar. The 1913 flavor is everywhere, and restored nicely. Especially loved the elevators and the radiators in the rooms! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"DO NOT STAY HERE!"
I booked this hotel for a recent conference at the Convention Center. I WILL NOT stay here again. First of all, I called for the complimentary shuttle service and had to wait 1 hour at the airport before being picked up. Not a good first impression. Secondly, the guy at the front offered food recommendations stating that he knew the manager and he would […] take good care of me, very poor recommendation. The hotel is old and holds all of the old characteristics (not charm) of an old building. The rooms are tiny, big enough for one person only. The water faucet made an annoying loud noise when turned on. The water was smelly. It has poor soundproofing as I could hear all the parties and conversations going on in the streets. It is located in an "entertainment district" and they make you sign a waiver when you check in. The bed was uncomfortable and I woke up with back pains in the morning. The elevator is 100 years old and is small and difficult getting luggage on and off. During the second day of my stay the remote control stopped working (it was working the night before and still had batteries) and there were dirty cleaning towels left at my room door. I was not provided with clean towels and had to request them. The only positives about this stay was that it was located in Gaslamp and walking distance to everything I needed. Next time I will spend the extra to stay at a decent hotel. Signed, regretful hotel guest. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quaint, but over priced"
Very nice hotel and amenities, but the rooms are so tiny, I felt like I paid way too much. Motel 6 is cheaper as has way bigger rooms. $200 for a tiny shack, but I guess if you're a few blocks from the gaslamp that's the price you pay..Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"clean, walking distance to FUn!"
I really enjoyed my stay. Clean room, great service, I recommend the valet because it saved me time (and frustration in finding parking). Walking distance to many of the hottest entertaiment spots. Breakfast was delicious at their restaurantGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"OK.. but small room"
Great location, cool roof top deck. But $20 per night valet parking, small room, and weird elevators.... kind of lessened my enthusiasm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very small rooms"
This location was great and that's about the only good thing. The rooms were cheap, but tiny. The lobby didn't feel welcoming. Breakfast was not included (my mistake) but the adjacent restaurant was supposed to be the alternative. It was full at 9.45am. I wanted to print boarding passes but there was one computer with a printer and it was constantly […] in use. I've been to other hotels where it is located by the front desk to deter mega users. "Location, Location, Location!"
It's all about location. If you want to be in the middle of all the action then this is the hotel for you. The hotel is quaint and historic and the service is outstanding. The neighborhood can be a bit loud on the weekends but when you are steps away from tons of bars and restaurants, it comes with the territory. "Great Old Hotel"
You couldn't ask for a better location if you want to check out the San Diego nightlife. The service was great, the rooms were clean, and the view from the top of the hotel was spectacular. The old fashioned elevators took a little getting used too and the room was a little small, but I would rather them not change it. "Conveniently located but a little pricey"
The room was fairly small although the bed was very comfortable, which is something that's important to me. Service could have been better though. "2 Foot by 2 Foot Showers"
Never recieved the free shuttle service from the airport. They were to busy to come get us they said. Check in service wasn't very good either. Then the room is so small. Sink is in the bedroom. Toilet and shower are in separate room, but the shower was honestley about 2' by 2'. Room was stuffy, either had to run the window air conditioner which made […] a lot of noises or open the window which was right above 6th Street. Which on Saturday night they were setting up all night for the street festival the next day! Which was never mentioned to us upon check in. And on Sunday night they tore it all down in the wee hours of the morning. Location is probably the only thing I liked. The lobby was pretty, but our room was definitley not recently renovated like stated on website. And I understand historic hotel... but the room did not have any character to redeem them. "Scary environment"
I walked up to hotel and there were two young girls dressed in skimpy clothing in front of hotel. Later as I was sitting in noisy restaurant the girls were sitting in lobby, and left with large group of similarly dressed girls a a few young men. I asked myself what kind of place was this. The desk person told me the hotel was a hundred years old and […] the elevator with the difficult gate was evidence of this. I had a real hard time getting a cart through the doors. When I got to my room the key didnt work and had to leave my luggage in the hallway and come down and get another one. Not cool! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"very relaxing."
Well maintained hotel in a lively neighborhood. The room I had was small but well appointed and quiet on the backside of the hotel. Weekends are busy and loud in the entire area. The walk to the San Diego convention center is an easy walk (less than ten minutes). I would definitely stay here if I have another business trip to the area. The staff are […] all first rate, pleasant, proffesional and have great recommendations when it comes to dining and shopping options in the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convention convenience"
The hotel itself was quaint and clean. Staff were always courteous and ready helge of service. My room was comfortable for me traveling by myself but would have seemed a little cramped if my husband was along. The elevator offered a glance back in time with each use. It worked well but required some coordination and strength to operate. Located about […] a half mile from the convention center, it was just the perfect distance for leisurely walks to and from my conference although taxis were easily available. Being in the gaslamp district made it easy to find good restaurants and shopping. An airport shuttle is availabe free of charge but be sure to let them know of your arrival and departure plans. I would definitely stay here again given the price and convenience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great access to the Gas Lamp district"
The Ramada is an historic hotel and is well placed to enjoy the Gas Lamp district in San Diego. Virtually everything is in walking distance from the Convention Center to the USS Midway. The restraunt attached to the hotel is brillant, be prepared for a large meal, and is open 24/7. They deliver to your room and always prompt and friendly. The room I […] had was small but was fine for my needs and always clean, I just needed to allow extra time for the elevators which are small but it is an historic hotel. I would stay there again.
