Riu Santa Fe All Inclusive Cabo San Lucas

A short guide to Cabo San Lucas

Literally at Land’s End, Cabo San Lucas sits at the southern tip of Baja California. Here, the Sea of Cortés and the Pacific Ocean meet at the famous Land’s End rock formation (El Arco). Nearby, Lover’s Beach (Playa del Amor) offers superb snorkeling. Although popular for its world-class golfing and sportfishing, Cabo’s after-dark clubs are a rival draw, such as Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina.

The food at breakfast was good, lunch was bad and the dinners were good if you are able to book in at one of their specialty restaurants. The location is good, 10-minute or less taxi ride into the main part of Cabo San Lucas. Good value for money.

My wife and I just returned fro Cabo and a stay at the Riu Santa Fe. The resort is beautiful and the rooms very nice. We were in building 7 with an ocean view and could not have asked for more. The only complaint we have about the entire stay was the average food but for us that was not a big deal. The service was very good and the people friendly. We will go back to the Riu Santa Fe!

Pay the extra money for the ocean view, definately worth the difference. The garden view was not worth looking out over so we upgraded and it was worth every penny. The beds are not that comforatable but managable. We had problems with the AC in the ocean view room so they moved us to the partial ocean view which was still just as nice and the AC was great! The hotel is beautiful, very clean and well kept. They don't have waiters for the bar but not a long walk to get your drinks while hanging out at main pool overlooking the ocean. The food was good, not great but we didn't have any problem finding something to eat. The veal was very good. We will definately be coming back to Cabo and staying at this hotel, very nice and fun! If you get a chance go deep sea fishing, also worth the money.

It was alright. The food was fine, not good, not especially bad. The entertainment and workout classes were fun. The front desk was very unhelpful. They didn't know how we could get from the airport to the hotel, and seemed confused that we would ask such a question. I guess most people book a transport service through their travel agent, so if you go through the website you are pretty much screwed. We found a bus at the airport that cost $15 dollars one way. When we got on, the driver said we would be the 3rd stop, turns out we were the 7th. It took and hour and a half. When we asked the front desk how to get back to the airport they sent us scurrying around to different desks to try and find a ride. We finally found a taxi which also cost $15 each. It was an ok trip.

Not a place for the honeymooner or elderly couple looking for a quite vacation. Very large campus, lots of great people and more of an active "party" atmosphere. There is also a minibar in the rooms with bottles of tequila, vodka, rum and the fridge is filled with bottled water, beer and soda. The fridge is refilled every two days. The staff was wonderful and organized activities of volleyball, water polo, water exercise, and more. The activities were very popular with the guest drawing in a large crowd to play. We spent the days hanging out at the pool bar and the nights at the various restaurants including Italian, Asian, Mexican, Steakhouse and the awesome buffet. Restaurants require reservations which you need to make early in the morning or they fill up, but was not a problem at all. We advised the hotel via email before our arrival that it was our wedding anniversary and they placed a bottle of champagne in our room. The ocean view rooms seem to be a bit too far away from the main pool, bars and restaurants and the majority of the activity so we didn't spend much time over there....but you get a great view. The cab ride from the airport is really expensive about $75 US. We chose the Cabo Express Shuttle $15 US per person. It's a charter bus located right outside the doors of the airport. Cabo San Lucas is a good 30min drive away from the San Jose del Cabo Airport so be prepared for a 1 1/2 hr bus ride(you make stops dropping off others at their hotels)....but it was only $15. For the return, the hotel has taxi vans to take you back to the airport $15 per person with no additional stops. Overall we loved it....already planning to return.

The hotel was nice, but don't expect gourmet food, which we didn't. The best food is in the main dining room. We walked out of the Asian restaurant, it was sooo bad. Do NOT bring tennis rackets if you expect to play there. The courts must be from another hotel that was previously there. They are beat up, dirty and dangerous. The can of balls were worse than what I save for my inlaw's dogs, but the borrowed rackets were new. The beach and pool areas are lovely & the personnel are friendly.

Upon arrival we did not first receive the room we signed up for so we moved around. Next morning up to make dinner reservations for all (4)restaurants but could NOT get into any of them for any evening! ALL BOOKED for our 5 nights. The food for the buffet was average where we had to eat for 5 days, 4 nights. NO FLAVOR!!! The hotel is beautiful but needs improvements on service to its customers! The entertainment was very cheesy. We ended up leaving the property a couple of nights to go to downtown for dinner and drinks. Security..NEEDS a lot of improvement. People selling stuff on the beach were allowed to bother us a million times a day. A fight took place and the security person just stood there. The police showed up an hour later with guns drawn. Not a good sight for families with small children. I have been to many all inclusive but this one needs serious improvement with securing customers.

Recommended Trip type: Family "Great service, very nice property, mediocre food"

Reviewed by Derek of Irvine on Aug 31, 2008

Having been to Club Med, we had some idea of what to expect with an all-inclusive resort. The Riu Santa Fe is a very nice and well-maintained property with friendly staff. Location is good, a $10 taxi ride into downtown Cabo San Lucas. Rooms are well-appointed, and include free beer, liquor, bottled water, and soft drinks in the mini-bar. Our first day we were hit with a big storm that left many of the hotel walkways flooded a foot deep, but workers got quickly busy running pumps to clear it. The pool areas are very nice as well, but they are mostly self-service. There are restaurants adjacent to them to grab lunch at. We brought our 7 year-old daughter - there were other kids there but not a whole lot. The clientele seemed to be a majority of couples. But the biggest downside of an all-inclusive resort is that most of the food service is buffet-style. The Santa Fe had a nice variety of food, but it was of mediocre quality. We got tired of it after a couple of days and were wishing we had other options short of going downtown. There are also restaurants at the hotel with table service for dinner (which require reservations), but there too the food was quite mediocre and the menu was rather limited (we tried the steak house). Overall, I would recommend the Santa Fe, as long as you don't have high standards for food.

We were staying on the 3rd floor and the elevator locked up and dropped 1/2 a floor. 40 minutes later, they were able to open the doors and pull us out. Great hotel, take the stairs!
