Overview

Location. The Catalina Hotel is located on Collins Avenue in south Miami Beach, Fla. Lincoln Road's eclectic cafés and designer boutiques are two blocks from this property.

Hotel Features. The Catalina Hotel consists of three buildings that display distinctive style. The Catalina Building houses the main reception desk and features stark white and vivid crimson décor throughout. Past the lobby are a koi fish pond and an outdoor bamboo garden lined with chocolate-brown couches. The lobby of the Maxine building features eclectic furnishings, a pool table, a bar and a coffee shop. The Maxine Restaurant is the only full-service, street-side restaurant on Collins Avenue and provides a prime perspective for people watching. The main pool, bordered by lounge chairs and cabanas, is located outside the Maxine building. The Dorset building features the Kung Fu Sushi restaurant. A vibrant mural of a Kung Fu disc jockey, painted by a local artist, enlivens the space.

Adjacent to the main public area is a library and conversation room furnished with black settees. The Catalina Hotel's bars host nightly cocktail hours where guests receive one complimentary beverage. Wireless Internet access is complimentary throughout the hotel. Shuttle service to the hotel from the airport is complimentary with printed proof of reservation. Return shuttle service to the airport is available for a surcharge.

Guestrooms. The Catalina Hotel offers 190 guestrooms. Beds are triple sheeted, and are draped beneath light waffle-weave duvets and Italian linens. Bathrooms feature rain showerheads, pedestal sinks, bathrobes and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries. Minibars are provided. Accommodations are equipped with flat-screen televisions. Rooms include laptop-compatible in-room safes.

Expert Tip. The South Beach area spans at least 20 blocks, so walking this stretch can prove a daunting task. Luckily, the Catalina Hotel provides complimentary red bikes for rental to guests on a first come, first served basis.

I have read about the Catalina for several years and really wanted to give it a try. Pleasantly surprised! Every night we dined at either of their two restaurants, both good a priced accordingly considering SoBe is truly expensive. My husband and I booked the standard room but were upgraded on arrival to the Dorset King – loved the décor. I suggest you shop on Lincoln Road which is just a few blocks south but runs from one end of the beach to the other.

Staff is nice enough if you are nice to them. We had a standard room wich was ok. The photos make the rooms look amazing but when you get there, they look the same but you see where corners were cut...it just looks a little cheaper than it does in the photos - but still nice! We ended up upgrading to a nicer room which was great! The bed was very comfortable and it was nice having the extra space for our stuff. There were little things that didn't work - the remote for the tv, the shower wasn't draining and the toilet paper holder was falling off the wall - but nothing major though. The room was clean and quite and there were black out currents to keep the light and heat out...and the AC in - which was amazing at the end of the day and in the AM. The eleavator was really old and smells of oil and natural gas, nothing to unbearable but not very pleasent either - stay on the first floor if you can. The hotel is not loud so you wont have to worry about not being able to get enough sleep. Vallet parking is about twice as much as they advertise online - it was posted online $15 for all day vallet parking but when we got there they said it would be $30. Good place to stay but we ended up moving over to Espanola Way and staying in a hostel/hotel over there for less and we were perfectley happy there - better atmosphere :)

We enjoyed our stay here, but it had nothing to do with the hotel, strangely. Just recognize that the hotel's greatest strength is its location, location, location... everything else is secondary. In other words, set expectations fairly low and you may be (somewhat) surprised. We were skittish based on other reviews, mainly horror stories from Yelp, and though we escaped without accumulating any of our own, I could see where issues could crop up (i.e., not the cleanest hotel, personal service definitely lacking, mostly a young, partying crowd, etc.). In a word, DECENT.

Upon arrival, the staff was rude, and acted as if we were inturrupting their day. We parked to check in and freshen up and when we went to get the car we were told there was a $25 parking fee. Don't sign up for any tour at the hotel. We took a "Biscayne Bay By Boat" tour and The hotel Catalina doubled the price and we were stuck on a "shuttle" that makes many stops and was'nt there when the tour was over. We could have taken a cab and still saved 1/2 the price. Also when we found metered parking around the hotel, the hotel staff refused to give us change! The hotel staff was consistantly rude and acted annoyed. The hotel has "free" bikes to use with an unposted "late return" fee! We extended our stay but I would never ever stay there again.

the hotel was a very good choice for us. it was right next to the beach and like a block away from the strip of all the stores to shop in. it was nice and clean, tv workd great, and the mini bar and snack bar was filled for the choice to buy something out of it. and for people that need a shuttle to the airport it was nice b/c u have that free option instead of paying for the cab. thank you!

actually, I live near Miami. beacuse some of my friends came from another state, we deciede to stay the hotel all together. the location is great. one block from the beach and good walk distance from south beach strip. comfortable bed. the lobby is pretty and well degsined. the room is kinda dark. the light is red and dim but if you like that atmosphere, you'll like it. hotel's atmosphere is great and young. the clerks are kind. sometime at night, people walk around and make noise. that's the only thing annoying there.

This place was great. I couldn't believe how nice it was for the money. And the staff and bartenders at the three lounges were great. I'm definitely going to stay here next time I go to South Beach.

The Cataline has 3 buildings; The Dorset, The Catalina, and The Maxine. The Maxine has small, bare rooms that leave a lot to be desired. The Dorset is nice.

Do not make the mistake of relying on photos when choosing this hotel. The pictures are nothing like what you actually see. The hotel is also a beach club, so this is not the place for you if you are looking for a nice place to relax. We could barely get inside the hotel for the crowd that gathered outside.

This is my 3rd stay at the catalina and its still the perfect hotel to jump in and out of for long stays or just a weekend trip to south beach. The staff is always extremely helpful and the location is perfect. Not too far from ocean drive and not too close to all the chaos. Walking distance to all the clubs and right across the street from the beach. Its also affordable for those that cant spend the big bucks on the facier hotels, which honestly arent that big a deal. Ive stayed at the Delano, Setai, Double Tree and a few others and the catalina is still one of my top 5 choices for whenever I make a trip to south beach. The rooms could use an update, but then again, it is the art deco district, so I shouldnt complain about the decor. The bathroom is a bit small, but compared to the Delano, its huge. The pool isnt amazing, but you have the beach right across the street if you really need to work on your tan.
