"Needs a good cleaning!"
Room was charming with fireplace, brick walls and claw foot bathtub. However, carpets were dirty, and I had to clean the bathtub before using. We were in the carriage house - which is over the laundry room and maintenance room. When we arrived - there was so much noise coming from that room with the machines going and loud voices, there was no afternoon […] "nap" for us. We were assured that all would be quiet in the morning until 9:00 am - not so - dryers were going at 7:30 am. The upside - breakfast was very good, and we enjoyed meeting and talking with our fellow travelers over wine in the parlor in the afternoons. The Gastonian would be ideal for couples. My room had message bath tub and working fire place that actually gave out heat. I am a single girl and I liked that each room was named after an important son or daughter since I have an interest in historical interiors. The decor is beautiful. They don't have room service but serve breakfast and two snacks. […] This isn't the usual soggy muffin fare you get at a lot of places. Really good home cooked meals. They give you a choice and you fill it out the night before. There is wine in the afternoon and port or sherry for a night cap. The Gastonian was quite pleasant if you like B&Bs. A 3/4 mile walk to the main attractions. Room full of antiques meaning leaning and sagging furniture. Shower not that great. My neice chose the Gastonian for her elopement wedding - it was fabulous! I arrived late in the evening and the hotel staff was very welcoming - even left desserts out for us. They offered us complimentary waters, sodas even cordials. My room was upstairs in the second old home - it was a large room filled with antique furniture - even a gas fireplace. […] The only negative, I thought was the antique 4 poster bed - it creaked and squeaked every time I rolled over and the mattress could have been more comfortable - just a personal preference. I welcomed the renovated shower and bathroom. Amenities were great, all included in the cost of the room - wifi, made to order breakfast, drinks, home baked goodies,etc. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. Honestly, from the cleaning staff, to the chefs, to the front desk personal - I have never been treated with more respect and friendliness. They pulled off a perfect elopement wedding without one single problem! They provided the flowers, cake, minister and the garden venue. It was stunning. "Wonderful historic house"
My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much. The house is wonderful. It was very clean and well kept. It has a few things that , that might not be to every ones liking. The front steps to the house are killers. They're very steep. So if you can't climb stairs this might be hard for you. The house is three stories so you have a stair case inside too. […] The back steps aren't quite so bad though. The staff are very friendly and help any way they can. The food was so good!!!! We sat in the kitchen for breakfast and chatted with them every morning. Would very much recomend. Also ask them about using the pedicab service to get down to the river district. We used them at night and it costs very little and is fast . The only other con is that it was alittle noisy. We were on the second floor and could hear the people above us talking and walking and flushing the toilet. My wife and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary at the Gastonian for 3 nights and 4 days. It's true what some have said that the place may come off as a little ragged, but I think it really adds to the experience of staying at a private bed and breakfast. Nothing about the facilities stuck out as unhygenic or below good standards. The guest services people were extremely personable, and their knowledge of Savannah and all the great things to do was impeccable. Every suggestion was dead-on. Every room is different, so if you've got some unique preferences you'll want to check it out or call ahead. Breakfast was unbelievable. The food was freshly prepared in front of us, and the quality was of the highest. Some reviewers have said that the breakfast staff was not the friendliest, but my opinion is that they focused on the task at hand while socializing a little less. The two snack times per day were an added bonus in our stay that we enjoyed every chance we had. It all worked out better than planned. We upgraded out room and that was a delight. The only weird thing was being so close to other patrons. It is a house so you can hear the toilet flush upstairs as well as louder noises from adjoining rooms. We really enjoyed our stay anyways.
