"Hidden fees and poor service"
Booked this place for the first night of a 9 day trip thinking it would be a perfect place to relax. Immediately upon check in the experience started to go down hill. On top of hefty price to stay there we were greeted with nearly $90 in "resort fees" and when i questioned why they weren't up front about them the young kid said "so you don't have to […] stay here then". That was just after an initial question about the charges. Anyway, we were checking at 11pm so obviously we weren't going elsewhere. The room was ok and the view was dockside not facing the ocean. Overall its one of those places that gets you inside and tries to take you for every penny you have. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hidden Fees can ruin a vacation !"
Our room was nice and we would have been very happy with our stay if only the issues we had with clearly hidden fees that were intentionally left undisclosed until the day of check-in. We purchased a room for over $300/night and then since we had four guests, on the hotels.com website an additional 60.00 for the extra person was added and with taxes […] the room was booked at a little over 400.00 When we arrived, the hotel then charged us another $18.00 per guest as a resort fee. So we paid $500.00 for our one night stay. This hotel is not worth that. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was nice not the best"
Our room had dirty bed skirt with holes and blood on our bathroom door. We asked for new sheets, came back to the sofa Bed open which would not close. The worst was we had to get a wake up call on Sunday at 8juat to ask to have a late checkout at 1, which is the whole reason you get one before the day so you do not have to get up ad we could not. The […] front desk made that hard and it was fun. Not all pools had towels but it was a good location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"So so"
We stayed at the resort for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We reserved the tennis villas. Upon check in I mentioned to the receptionist that I had read the reviews and was aware some were nicer then others and could we please have a nice room. She told me she had nothing recently updated in a one bedroom and would upgrade us to a 2 bedroom at no charge […] that was recently updated. The tennis villas are in the South end (which everything is in the north end of the resort) the view from the 3rd floor is horrible (you only see the top of trees) the room which was "recently updated" is just blah... Tube TV's,not a picture on the wall etc. the resort in the north end is MUCH nicer, the pools are nice, the resort is clean and the employees are very helpful. The resort fees are also quite expensive at $17 per adult per night!! Overall I'm not sure if we would return to that resort. We have stayed in MUCH nicer places for less money! "Relaxing Hideaway!"
We really enjoyed our stay at South Seas.Nice room with great water view. We had dolphins swimming right outside our patio. Service was very good. Nice to have beach access that was not overcrowded. We will come back if we get the chance. We got married in Sanibel and stayed here on our wedding night. Very happy we did, made our day very special. Thank […] you.Clean room. Great hotel amenities. "Dolphins and Mantees swam by the room"
We upgraded to the Harbourside Hotel with bay view and it was well worth it. Less than 5 minutes after we arrived in our room, dolphins were swimming past our room to the marina. This resort has fantastic views from all over the island and wildlife is abundant. We will be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would never go back . . ."
Overall a very mediocre experience. The bikes we rented were supposed to automatically switch gears, which was very annoying: buy some one speeds! The resort charges a $17/day resort fee though you pay for every activity/rental in addition to this fee. The food on this resort/island is horrendous. Even the grocery store baguette and vodka sauce, which […] we bought one night for dinner to save ourselves from another culinary dining disaster, was incredibly bad: the baguette was akin to sponge cake and the vodka sauce must have had something hiding in it as the amount of pepper used could have covered up any little kitchen mishap. This food was not cheap either. The only recommendation I can offer for food would be the sandwiches from Captiva Provision Company. The suite we rented was poorly decorated but in decent condition. In a nutshell, we would never go back but it was a relaxing vacation with nothing to do if that is what you are after. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Took along time to get to resort as speed limit and traffic slows you down. Allow an extra 3/4 of an hour. Accommodation very good but room not ready til 4.30! Food on resort limited. Restaurant expensive. Food at pool ok but bit stodgy. Setting beautiful and peaceful. Extra charges for wifi, towels and deck chairs, etc very unreasonable as hotel expensive […] anyway. "Comes up short"
Our 2 BR Tennis Villa came up short on a lot of dimensions. First off, it isn't a 2 BR, it's a 1 BR with a Loft. Depending on your group that may be a big deal. More universally, the whole space was just a touch short, we had to keep moving things to fit. The dining room table had to be moved out to fit five people, then it had to be pushed back against […] the wall to use the living room. The trash can had to be moved to open the dishwasher and then moved again to open the stove. They did a nice job of restocking coffee and other supplies, but there was no sponge to wash dishes. The carpet was also positively dingy. On the plus side, the sofabed was very comfortable, the balcony was large and pleasant. The real plus is, of course, the beach. It was beautiful and the service (chairs and umbrellas) was great on Saturday (less so on Friday, no idea why). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Lousy Villa In Heaven"
South Seas Island Resort is a first class resort in a wonderful setting on Captiva Island. The resort's amenities are excellent, staff is well trained, and restaurants are fine. The beach villa we had, however, destroyed a lot of this ambiance. The unit (independently owned, but rented thru SSI Resort) was dated, tired and in poor condition. The floor […] tiles were cracked, the bathroom was dingy, the kitchen appliances were old and tired ( eg; leaky faucets) the lighting was poor and the bedroom was cramped,to say the least. "winter respite"
One has to remember this is a resort, with all of its conveniences and costs. We enjoyed the location of our room where we could watch birds, dolphins and manatees on the harbor/marina. The beach and pool were short walks away. The trolly took you anywhere else if you didn't feel like driving. I wouldn't have minded paying resort prices for the food […] if it had been memorable, but it wasn't. The best on-site food were the sandwiches from the Provisions store. Local restaurant food was not the most impressive, but it was a good deal cheaper. Otherwise, it was very pleasant and low key...just what we needed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice anniversary stay."
My husband and I stayed here for our 25th Anniversary. We stayed in the tennis villas on the south end of the resort. Although this is the more quiet end of the resort, when we wanted to get something to eat, we had to go to the north end of the resort. We had a little provisions store close to us, but we spent 20 bucks on a small bag of Carmel corn, […] a small box of cheese crackers and a bottle of water. So do yourself a favor and before you come to the island stop at a grocery store, you will save hundreds of dollars. The sunsets at both the south beach and at sunset beach were to die for. All and all a very nice place to stay especially if you enjoy water whether it be the ocean waves, the many pools or the marina. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful Vacation, almost like hawaii!!"
We just returned from our stay at South Seas and had a wonderful time. The beach villa was beautiful and the outdoor pool was wonderful. The grounds were lush and very well cared for. The only complaint we have was the lateness of the cleaning staff; however they did a great job once they finally came. (mostly after 4p.m.) A word of advice to the management […] would be to sweep the landing to each room , the staircases and the elevator which got very sandy. Thank you for a great vacation! "Short trip"
Over all the resort is a great place to relax at the beach and hang by the pool complex. It has good restaurants on property for breakfast lunch and dinner. The facility I was staying was going through renovations and a lot of work activity was going on during the day. This contributed to clutter and debris. "Disappointed"
For the prices this hotel charge one expects lights in the bedroom and dishwashers to work. There were no basic supplies in the kitchen-at least a sponge to clean or salt&pepper. How cheap can you be? Water pressure is nil. Lastly to charge $60 a day for parking which we were not even aware of till we checked out was outrageously mercenary. I have stayed […] in 3rd world country resorts like shangrila in boaracay Philippines, Sofitel in siem reap, that says to the guest welcome and enjoy your stay from fruit baskets, robes, slippers, full on pressured shower, drinks etc. South Seas didn't make me feel welcomed! "Way Under Expectations..Left Hotel"
1...After booking a king bed three months ago we were told that none were available upon check-in at 6PM. We were told the fine print did not guarantee a king bed. We booked a non pet hotel and found dogs everyplace that we went. We are told that owners of condo units and boats docked there can have pets, although there were non in our room we were […] told. 3...Filthy and unclean conditions in our unit, marina building 12, in the halls, in the elevator, at the entry(with garbage container sitting next to to elevator. Laundry bags piled up at the entry of the next door unit.Dust build-up visible on mouldings inside our unit. Paint required in the halls and inside our unit.4...No tea in the room but coffee available(one pacakage of regular)5...requested management call us at about 8:30 PM and after one hour of no call back we called hotels.com who got us out of this dump at 10PM at night. Checked into Marriott at 11:30 PM. This is not a 4 star resourt and not even close to that and we have been around the world and would be in a position to fairly say this. Perhaps 2.5-3 star but the location is great. By the way this place charges a per person resourt fee per day on top of their very high rates. We did not write any comments in their resort book but whoever stayed in this room prior to us wrote several very nehative comments in their book concerning the lack of room service and poor quality of food.. "Disappointed"
I stayed at this hotel many years ago and loved it. I was really disappointed with my recent visit. The hotel is not what it used to be. If it wasn't for Captiva being so beautiful (the natural landscape), this would have been just any other Motel. Yes, I said "Motel" because I've stay at interstate motels that were equal to this. The facilities were […] lacking. Pool/Spa was unimpressive. I was really disappointed in the lack of service. Money really was no object, but we were told "no can do" to a reasonable request for them to arrange transportation for us. We loved the island and would definitely recommend staying somewhere within walking distance of shops and restaurants. One good thing, because I really don't like writing negative reviews, their Sunset Bar had outstanding employees. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great place to unwind relax with spectacular views"
Not what we expected when we first arrived but grew very fond of this resort by end of our stay. Very friendly check in and housekeeping staff upon check in and during our stay. We were worried not enough for my 8 year old to amuse herself at first but the 2 story water slide and myriad of pools with spectacular panoramic seaside views (North Pointe) […] took care of that problem. Restaurants and large eat in villa kitchens provided plenty of options for meals. Sunsets are spectacular but request a 2nd floor unit with gulfside view if you plan to see it from your villa. Recommend provisioning at a Publix in Ft Myers before arrive in Sanibel-Captiva- there are no box or franchise stores after you cross the bridge. Jerry's in Sanibel and the market next to Starbucks across from the resort was very nice but pricey if you plan to eat in and do your own cooking. Laundry room was in the basement of the villa which was a little awkward especially when I discovered a critter running around behind the washer and dryer. Rented bikes with resort coupon - best deal. Looked into renting boats , jet skis, fishing poles and golf but ran out of time to do it all. Maybe next time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Very nice place. When I arrived to the room the all the dirty linens where left on the room hallway. "difficult check-in"
We had requested adjoining rooms and when we arrived, we were on opposite ends of the resort. Also, we were uninformed about an additional $30.00 fee that was mandatory. It took 45 minutes to straighten everything out and finish the check-in process. They did give us vouchers for breakfast to make up for the difficulty. A dog barked all night and kept […] us awake. When we called the front desk, we were told that there was nothing they could do because there were private residences mixed in with the public facilities. "Romantic & relaxing beach resort"
Wonderful get-away. Spectacular views of Pine Island Sound from our balcony. Every time we sat on the balcony for at least 10 minutes, we either saw dolphins or manatees playing. Grounds are beautifully landscaped, resort is designed so you see native trees and bushes as you drive the main road and would hardly even notice the villas, cottages, and […] houses located along the beach. Trolley service (free) eliminates the need to even get in your car unless you want to leave the grounds. Note: nightlife if minimal on the resort, so if you are looking for the bar scene, you will need to go drive off-resort. This is our second visit to South Seas Plantation and we had a wonderful time. The grounds are beautiful and the property is well maintained. We stayed in the hotel this time, rather than the condos. and liked the view much better. The only downside of this property is its restaurant called Harbourside. The service at Harbourside at both breakfast and […] dinner was horrible, and the food is overpriced. It's as though none of the waiters had any training as to how to serve, or for that matter had ever even eaten in a restaurant better than a McDonalds. Avoid Harbourside, and drive off the property for better restaurant options on Captiva Island. Other than that, we will definitely return to South Seas Plantation.
