This was the lowest cost room I could find with 2 beds close to Times Square. Location is excellent. But the hotel is very VERY old. Elevators old, carpet dingy, bathroom old and cruddy. The Beds were as bad as some flop houses I stayed at as a kid. Really old and uncomfortable. So I would say if cost is your only concern choose this place. "Pleasant Surprise"
We arrived at noon for a 2 night stay and were pleased to be able to check in. The room was quiet, clean and very functional and the king size bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean with fresh white towels. The only drawback was the pedestal sink has no place to put makeup so I had to use the back of the toilet. The room has a radiator for heat […] but it isn't turned on until the evening (our stay was in a chilly May) and I understand that when the weather changes, they install a window air conditioner unit in the room. We weren't in the room much during the day and we were not uncomfortable when we were there. The desk clerks were welcoming throughout our stay, always saying hello and even asking about our day. The location of this hotel is perfect for Times Square which is about a block away. Don't overlook the Cranberry Deli next door, very good, inexpensive food for any meal. Hotel was fine for its price range overall. Room was decent sized for the area and price. Location less than one block from Times Sq and close to all theaters. Walking distance to subway. I would not recommend for the money. Upon our arrival, our room was stiffling. There are no thermostats in the room, so we went down to the front desk. We were told that there was nothing they could do as they had a number of guests from Brazil that wanted the heat on since they were cold. We decided to then open the window, but the window wouldn't […] stay open by itself. Of course, the front desk said they would send someone up, but that never happened...SHOCKING! We had to prop the window open with soda bottles just to be able to sleep. We requested a wake up call the first morning. Another shocker...we never received a call. Again we asked the front desk and they told us that sometimes the wake up call system works and sometimes it doesn't. Really...that is the excuse you are going with? The location of this hotel is ideal, but it is definitely not worth the money you will undoubtedly pay...For the money we spent, I think it is only fair to expect clean bedding, a wake up call when requested, and to not have to spend the night in a sauna. This is the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in, in NYC. Sometimes the shower had no hot water. There was no shelf in the bathroom to put your stuff. The hotel was old, dirty, and echoed.
