Mayaland Hotel And Bungalows
I have stayed here twice. Once by myself and once with my family (spouse and two children). We stayed in one of the bungalows, a pleasant walk to the main building. You can't beat the location of the hotel, and the grounds are beautiful. The food is quite good, though a bit pricey. The room rate is more than others that you'll find, but I have stayed in nearby hotels, and you definitely get what you pay for. Staying in the bungalow was much noiser in the morning than staying in the main building. The forest wakes up early, and the thatch roofs don't muffle the sound of birds waking up. In other words, if you stay in a bungalow, expect to be up with the sun! See the ruins in the morning and avoid the bus crowds, then take the afternoon and visit the pools and just relax in the hammocks. Go back to the ruins in the late afternoon, and feel free to skip the light show....More

Mayaland is on a beautiful piece of property with its own entrance to Chichen Itza making it an ideal place to stay if you plan to hit the ruins early in the morning before the crowds arrive. It has a great restaurant on site where I had a pina colada that tasted like they had just picked the pineapple and coconut from one of the many trees that provide shade along the meandering pathways. The rooms were nice but I would have expected a slightly more comfortable/larger bed for the price. Spacious bathrooms, but we did experience a little electrical shock while in the shower which was a bit unnerving. Despite these inconveniences the location and property make it a great place to stay and being able to beat the crowds to the ruins compensate for the higher price tag....More
