    Aqua Hotel Bella Playa
This place is not the best and the food is terrible. The hotel staff were very freindly and helpful, but this cannot make up for days of steamed, bland food of very low quallity....More

    Aqua Hotel Aquamarina
Although the rooms were comfortable, and the hotel was well kept, the crowds of people rendered the amenities virtually useless for a family. The pool area was PACKED with people (most of whom smoked continually) from 10am to 5pm. The beach was largely the same, was littered with cigarette butts, and had very little shelf before dropping off into deeper water. In mid-June the water was FREEZING in both places. Even though the restaurant onsite is open for all 3 meals, the food was absolutely terrible, and horrendously expensive-we spent nearly $100.00 for a lunch for 4 that consisted of, essentially, chef boyardee and packaged lunch meat. The breakfasts were not much better, and the dining room was so crowded that the irritable wait staff couldn't keep up with the mess-tables were very hard to come by. They also tell you not to drink the water in the hotel, so we were concerned about eating any fresh vegetables or fruit with skins. We brushed our teeth with bottled water. Shopping in the area consists of tacky tourist souvenir shops, and most of the dining along the main street (there is really only 1 street appropriate for tourists) consists mainly of chain cafes with all the same food. (For the money, this is a better option than the hotel, though!) Travel to & from Barcelona can be expensive- $100.00+ for a cab from the airport, or a pay-ahead bus shuttle service that only runs to & from the airport after 12:00 noon. Taking the renfe train is a cheaper option, but with kids and vacation luggage after an 11-hour flight, not a very attractive one. The trains can be unreliable as well-we stayed for 2 days prior to taking a cruise, and the morning of our departure for the cruise port in Barcelona, we arrived at the station at 10:00am to find HUNDREDS of tourists all waiting to get into Barcelona-and the trains were not running! The sole station ticket agent could not speak English and was handing people bus passes, for unmarked busses which were packed...More
