Hotel Del Carmen
The staff were very helpful and friendly. This is a great hotel if you're staying one night in Tuxtla because of its proximity to the airport (and your main destination is places in Chiapas other than Tuxtla). It's a couple of blocks from the Avenida Central and the Parque de la Marimba, which is always hopping with charming nightlife on weekends. The place itself is a little dirty and minimalist, but definitely tolerable (and definitely safe, I would say, although our room only had a pop-out lock on the doorknob). Although I did get a pretty good night's sleep (eventually), I'd say my main issue was the ambient noise--a very common hotel complaint in Latin America and Europe in general (due to the way cities and hotels are constructed). The rooms wrap around an indoor central walkway, which means any conversations being held (or music being played) by people traversing this walkway echoes through the thin doors/walls/windows of the rooms in the hotel....More
