Mercure Grand Hotel Doha City Centre
Good stay...first room was very smokey and dirty. I called the desk and was transfered right away, no questions asked and was very happy with non-smoking room. The hotel staff was very good and the amenities were above average. Free shuttle to and from the airport was great. Taxi's all around the hotel made for easy travel in Doha. Above average pool and workout room. I would stay again....More

    Al Muntazah Plaza
The staff is the best part of this hotel! They could not have been nicer-- from the moment I was picked up at the airport by the hotel driver (let them know your arrival time), the staff in the dining room, the bellboy-- everyone was extremely pleasant, easy to understand, and very helpful when I asked questions. The hotel is clean and quiet. My room faced the street and I rarely heard any traffic. The decor of the place is very simple-- nothing like the pictures on the web. The bed was comfortable (luckily too because there was no chair to sit on) but the place reminded me of a college dorm with its stark simplicity-- perhaps all the more so because I had looked at the pics on the website. I was just sleeping and storing my clothes in the room so it met my needs. The bathroom was large, clean, and everything worked. There is a restaurant and a complimentary breakfast buffet. It was quite good with some rotation of food but some of the basics each day. You have to sign a bill each day but when I mentioned I thought it was complimentary, they assured me the bill was for internal accounting only. I had one lunch in the place-- a hamburger which I am still not sure what it was. It was reasonably priced and actually wasn't too bad. I am just not sure it was hamburger. The hotel is on a busy street but not around any of the city attractions. I walked most of the time and never felt unsafe. The neighborhood around it seems to be for the guest workers. I found them very shy but if I smiled and spoke to them, I would get a big smile and some form of greeting back. Taxis seemed to be readily available if booked in advance. You will appreciate the staff above all....More
