    Swissotel Sydney
We received a great rate at this hotel through hotels.com, so staying here was pretty much a no-brainer. The location is fantastic ,if what you want to see are all the museums and touristy sites. Since it's located between subway stops, you will probably find that walking or taking a bus is your best option. The CBD is very compact, similar to San Francisco, so walking isn't much of a problem. Our biggest surprise in Sydney was the cost of....well, about everything. The breakfast buffet is $30 at the Swissotel. They do offer a 20% off cupon on the full breakfast, so be sure you ask for enough to cover your stay. A family of four will spend $96 a day for breakfast. There are other breakfast options in the area (Silks, VellaNero, or the QVB) that will help you cut that down, but don't expect to get off for less than $15 a person. Lunches and dinners.....well, the price goes up from here. The Swissotel charges $25 a day, or $99 for a week. Finally, if a fitness room is important to you, look elsewhere. For a hotel this size, two treadmills (one was inoperable for a week of our stay) and a set of dumbells just isn't enough. There were people waiting for up to an hour to use the equipment, everyday. All in all a great place to stay if location is your most important need and you don't eat breakfast or workouot....More

    Hotel Grand Chancellor - Melbourne
The room was nice and clean. The staff was very helpful and the location was good. The hotel offered discounts on dinner and there was a "happy hour" of free tapas. I LOVED the rooftop pool which was heated in October! And there was functional "gym" to get some exercise. Great value....More

    Rydges Melbourne Hotel
The hotel was in a pretty good location, within easy walking distance to just about anywhere. We stayed one night then left for Yarra Valley for two nights and returned for another night at The Rydges. The first night our room was in better shape than the last night but both were clean but needed some basic maintenance (painting etc..). The staff the last day were very friendly and helpful, but not the first day we checked in (different staff). Happy hour in the lounge is very nice as well as the continental breakfast in the restaurant. If you get a great price, as we did, I would recommend staying here....More
