"funky, but not practical or family friendly"

the foyer and architecture of the building are impressive; rooms look designer funky but are not very practical. the building is still under final construction, so expect big black blankets up in the lift, unfinished lift lobbies and a carpark basement that looks like a construction site. We stayed in a two bedroom room which had a difficult and pokey layout. The bedding arrangement is two queens only, no twin option, which is not very family friendly. The couch in the Japanese inspired lounge looked nice but was the most uncomfortable thing i have ever sat on. The bedroom walls have frosted glass on the bottom metre of them, which again looks funky, but results in bright light in the bedroom at the crack of dawn as the main curtains in the lounge are see through. The rooms are "eco" which means no air-conditioning or ventilation, and the radiator heating system took about an hour and a call to reception to figure out how to turn on, and then it took us till the third night to get it set so that we didn't cook ourselves at night. what i would have given for a set and forget thermostat. The room heating actually comes with a manual that is about an inch thick. The carpark under the hotel is operated by wilson, so you have to pay for parking every time you enter and leave the carpark. The restaurant space is nice, the Japanese inspired menu looked interesting, but did not have anything that my kids could pronounce let alone be willing to eat.
"Superb but noisy"

We stayed in a South Loft apartment .It was very modern accommodation with all appliances top of the range.Special touches like Aesop toiletries were lovely. Location was in the trendy part of Canberra, close to restaurants and within walking distance of many sights. We should have been able to give this rating a 5 star but.......3 out of our 4 mornings, we were rudely awakened by trucks coming in and emptying dumpsters from the office building across the road. On the other morning the dumpsters were being moved around. The noise was horrendous and went on long enough to drive you out of bed. This apartment would be great if you get up at 6am every morning.

What else can I say about this apartment apart from perfection?! It's managed by Hotel Hotel group although in a separate building. First of all, the staff were very friendly and helpful when we checked-in. Love the security of the apartment that requires you to swipe for both doors and elevators. We had a 3 bedrooms apartment. It's massive and spacious with contemporary furnitures. Totally love the design. Kitchen was fully equipped with oven, microwaves, pots and pans. The rooms are big with comfortable bed. Toilets and bathroom are clean and newly furnished. Love our balcony with lake view. Perfect stay!! Will definitely return when I am Canberra. It's also situated in a nice area with restaurants, cafe and within walking distance to the lake bank.
"Apartment stay in hotel hotel (icon apartments) mixed thoughts"

Lovely reception staff and very very friendly ! Great apartment and amenities within the apartment room it's a very funky establishment with artful touches throughout. Check in was easy and the apartment was very well equipped and seemed to be brand new. Fans were and balcony door open when we walked in I think this was due to a heavy paint smell. My partner is a painter and commented on the paint being definitely freshly done. The only negatives I would say would be room service which is just tapas plates at around $15 - $18 per plate for something like prosciutto wrapped over a filling or olives and cheese as they don't have a proper equipped kitchen in the hotel they don't offer actual meals. There are some great places around in the new acton area. We went to A.Baker for breakfast which was so delicious and Mocan and Green Grout for dinner which was well Priced and had a funky variety of plates on offer and was also design quirky. we had a lovely waitress with a short boycut blonde hai My other negative was that there isn't a proper allocated parking area it's a small Wilson car park so if arriving on the weekend it's very hard to find parking. I think the hotel should have an area in the car park that's cordoned off for the hotel only. They have signs saying hotel hotel parking om certain spots which seems to be ignored. The parking was very cheap and only a small lot so i believe that's why it was full a flat fee of $10. We drove around for about 45mins and had to illegally park in the carpark as it was just taking too long to find a carpark we came back down at about 11.30pm and parked the car then when the crowds died down from dinner. The gym on offer is very very good all new equipment it's a very funky/quirky designed hotel overall even the furnishings are very high quality. I did find that maybe our apartment wasn't completely finished yet as we didn't have an iPad which we got told we should have when I called up for a room service menu. There wasn't a proper door lock switch on our door so the key had to lock the door from the outside lock then close it for the door to be locked whilst we were inside. Reception had to come up and help me as they said over the phone I just had to turn a dial on the door handle on the inside to lock it but my door didn't have that when they came up. There also wasn't any artwork in the room so It felt very cold as the apartment is a slate style tile throughout with only a rug in the lounge room and there is also no aircon either so the apartment was freezing I believe they had oil heaters in the living area with a turn dail at the bottom of the unit thats on the wall and there was a unit next to the bed however I know the bedroom oil heater didn't work and the heater in the living room just wasn't sufficient to heat up the whole apartment especially as its tiled it was so cold ! The towel rack heater worked perfectly so that was a bonus. Also there was no extra blankets so even watching a movie at night we pulled the doona off the bed to use to keep warm. I feel like my stay may have been a bit different to all the other great reviews as I stayed in an apartment which I believe wasn't quiet finished to the other apartments in the complex it was missing those final touches. If I was to stay here again it would be in a hotel room as I believe there carpeted and would just feel more warm and comfortable with great finishing. The apartments itself had very quirky high quality furnishings. Top of the range washing machine a condenser dryer. A very well equipped kitchen and living area with brand new LED TV. And the cleaning products and even Aesop products were very good quality items on offer in the apartment. And a beautiful view over the lake looking out the to the museum and Parliament House and we could see Telstra tower in the distance. Overall it just felt like it was just missing a few things to want myself to have another stay here. Thank you again to the staff all the staff I met were very happy well mannered and so helpful. I paid $300 a night for a one bedroom over the weekend. My visit purpose was for a state gridiron game but no other big events were on that weekend.
