"Good for short stay"
Its good and cheap Good serviceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
If you are going to Amsterdam for the first time or want to be close to the centre then this is the place you want to be. Staff was awesome. Close to anywhere you want to be. Rooms are small and basic and the stairs are the smallest and narrowest I've seen so far. Good fun climbing them after you are high :) Overall I would recommend it if you are on […] budget travelling and want to have fun. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"I'd stay here again"
Ok so the only negative about this place is the stairs. But the friendly staff at the bar will help you get your luggage up if you require. Easy to get to from the train station (walking) , on the cusp of red light district. Plenty of places to eat and drink close by.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
First off, poor communication with guy at check in desk, well it was more of a bar if im honest, i got there late due to a delayed flight and he said he couldnt help until i protested and he finally 'put me on the phone' with the manager who finally got it sorted, i then asked him for the wifi password which he told me to come back tommorow for!!! In […] the room, the light was hanging on by a thread, and there was a sky light above the bed, which made it tricky when having a lay in, Dont most people go amsterdam for nocturnal activity?!? Anyway, in addition to this they messed up my booking so i had to pay in cash for one night....... If you choose this place cause of the money fair play and i understand you get what you pay for in life but this is a bit of a joke Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location for a layover"
We've been to Amsterdam several times already and this is the perfect location (right off the red light district) for a one night stay. We stayed during the week so it wasn't so busy/noisy and we didn't have any problem locating the place. This place is definitely NOT suitable for families with children as you can smell the 'coffee shop odour' from […] other guests rooms nor is it suitable for people who have difficulty climbing steep stairs! Expensive for the quality of room and check out is at 10am! I would stay here again but it wouldn't be my first choice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The staircase at the entrance of the hotel is so steep that it can only be good for the people who climb but not for the guests. If you stay on the second floor it will be even worse. The room that we stayed was very small and narrow and the ceiling was low. Instead of one double bed we had two sıngle beds side by side in the room. Probably the room […] was a sıngle room but they put an extra bed ınto that room and sold us as double. But we had paıd for a real double room. There was no bath tub in the bathroom, everything was very old. There were no slippers ın the room. Don't believe the things you see in the photos, just a disappointment. The only good thing about the hotel is the location. It's close to everywhere. Everything else is negative. Onun dışında her şey olumsuz... "Man får det man betalar för, grymt läge!"
Trevlig personal, litet rum med bekväm säng som stämmer överens med vad man förväntar sig med det priset. Skulle lätt boka igen om vi åker till Amsterdam.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Très bien placé"
Chambre propre. Emplacement idéal. A prendre en compte : les chambres ce situent toute en étage, escalier très étroits et petits, le parcours du combattant pour monter les valises. ( Clean bedroom. Ideal location. To take into account: bedroom it place quite in floor, staircase very narrow and small, the assault course to go(take) up suitcases. )Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We came for amsterdams music festival our flight landed at around ten pm so we told the staff about a late arrival which was all fine we arrived and checked in after twenty minutes of the lady trying to work out how much we owed. The stairs were steep and if you have a heavy case I advise you to be very careful. We couldn't fault the location as it was right in the centre and walking distance from the station so it was very easy to find, we dropped our bags of and got changed and then went straight out when we roughly got in around two am and the bright city lights shining in our room with no curtains was quite hard to get to sleep with the busy streets, motorbikes and screaming.the stench of the bathroom was also pretty disgusting, the single beds were stained and uncomfortable, as we were getting in quite late we wasn't awake for the 9 am room clean so our room didn't get cleaned at all when we went out and our beds didn't get changed, for the price we payed we certainly wouldn't stay there again.
"Good small hotel "

Only stayed here for one day. The hotel was easy to find, was a perfect location, close to the Red Light District, across the road from the train station and very close to the high street. It really was ideal for us both. It was a small hotel but the rooms were light and airy. Unfortunately we didn't have much of a view, our window faced onto a wall with other guests staying there which wasn't too pleasant. Also the walls were very thin so we could hear other guests, a TV and even doors opening and closing all night. On a positive note the staff were friendly and accommodating towards us and the location was perfect. It was a pleasant stay but I would be undecided whether to stay there for longer than a night or two.
"Brilliant location, very helpful staff!"

The location of this hotel is just perfect. A stone's throw away from Dam square and opposite a tram line. It's staff are just excellent, Every morning we were always asking for directions and they always helped. When we needed a map, or a travel adapter or a hair dryer they were always on hand to help and were so were polite. Up until about 11pm it is quite noisy as you can hear the people outside but after this time it does quieten down and so you have a good night's sleep. The room that we had was very very small, but for only a short stay in Amsterdam we didn't mind at all. Also, take note that the stairs are extremely steep and so may not be great for everyone.
"Very nice place and staff"

Friendly staff nice hotel and excellent location. Rooms are a bit tired and stairs are quite steep however after talking to Marc at reception he did tell me that the place is getting a complete overhaul after the new year.
"5 night stay"

Literally just got back from Amsterdam after a 5 night visit for a music festival. Brilliant location for what we wanted which was to be near the Dam Square and Centraal station. Everything else was perfect we didn't really mind the steepness of the stairs after the first couple times. Only gripes are we stayed in room 18 top floor and the bathroom smelt absolutely awful most times like sewage. And there were no blinds/curtains on the windows so the light shining through was quite annoying. Apart from that Id stay here again :).
"Okay for a short stay in Amsterdam"
Let's face it, most people are not coming to Amsterdam for a quiet night and good rest. This hotel is situated right in front of the main strip which is busy and inevitably there is going to be noise. We were expecting this, however we were disappointed that our room didn't have curtains. Not only because we couldn't change in our bedroom but also the street lighting came in through the rubbish blind in the night, making the room very bright. Noise we can cope with, but this didn't make for the best nights sleep and is something that could be solved so easily and would make such a difference. The room is very small, not a lot of room to move around, again fine if you aren't going to spend much time in it. And the furniture is a bit worn. The bathroom was not great, not very stylish or luxurious. It looked more like a public toilet but it was clean. Unfortunately the free safe in the room didn't work for us and there was no hairdryer. And yes, it's true what they say about the stairs but they are manageable. On the plus side, it is in a great location and the bar downstairs is nice. The staff are friendly and helpful. We probably wouldn't return because we may be looking for a bit more luxury, we were on a budget due to being on an interrail trip but this is perfectly adequate for a short break to Amsterdam.
"At First Glance"

At first glance everything seemed to be better than expected. The deluxe room was spacious and modern with all that I would expect from an Amsterdam Central premises. The location handy and close to the Train Station, Grass Hopper, Red Light District, Dam Square etc. etc. etc. We were only there for a night as part of a stop over and heading onto Northern Holland the next day. There was no music or bar noise that I could hear. Albeit, other reviewers have mentioned a disturbance at times. And bearing in mind we were on the top floor, this may have protected us from any noise leakage. The bed was comfortable, the room clean, with adjustable central heating. We picked a cold part of August to travel, the coldest part of the Summer thus far which was just our luck. Needless to say, it didn't detract from our fun. Check in was swift and polite. We were informed of the no smoking policy and, if you needed to smoke, to do so outside the window. This made me chuckle being a smoker and I respectfully followed their advice/rules. As others have mentioned, there was a smell of cannabis in the stairwell. But hey, you are in Amsterdam and yes you are going to smell weed, regardless of smoking policies/regulations etc. Personally, I find it a pleasant smell, so it neither bothered or upset me. Unlike others on here that have complained about it? The stairs were an effort and given my Meniscus rupture in my right knee, to climb them was problematic. However, I managed it, taking it steady. If you are not able bodied you might want to request a lower room or try a different property altogether. On this first night, my only complaint would be with the terrible smell in the shower room. It was putrid to say the least. The drains were burping sewer smells, which made me gip at times. I did not complain given we were there for only one night and felt a little embarrassed to take the matter further. Not for me, but for the premises. Other than that I was pleased with the stay. It was however, a different experience on the way back. Having concluded our Holland trek and on the way back home, we decided to stay here again. But this time it was in a lower graded room. What a mistake! It was terrible. The room was pokey and small, facing onto a brick wall, back end, no daylight yard. The TV did not work and on reporting this to reception we were met with rather dismissive response. The guy advised that no one had reported it before and that there was nothing he could do. Strange that, as others seemed to have had the misfortune of staying in the same room and have reported the broken TV on here...? Anywho... Thankfully, I had my iDevice to hand with a few films loaded, so this spent a few hours during the evening. The walls were paper thin, so you could here everything that your neighbours were up to. The floors were cheap laminate, so this only added to the noise intrusion. Thankfully, in this particular room, the bathroom didn't smell of sewer. However, there was pungent whiff of ammonia, which was equally as off putting. Overall the second stay was disappointing to say the least and I was glad to only be staying for one night. To conclude: if you are not fussy and can tolerate some of the premises shortcomings then this place is for you. If not, I would definitely spent a little more money and get into a higher grade hotel.

Me and my partner stayed here a few years ago and have booked to go back in a months time with friends. We were very pleased with the room, we found it hard to find a fairly priced hotel, as opposed to hostel, so close to the centre (it's next door to Grasshopper and the main bulk of coffeeshops and 2 min walk from Red Lights). Staff were great and very friendly, we joined them to watch Jeff Dunham on a projector over a late breakfast. Rooms are wonderfully set out. What really made this hotel a bonus was the fact that the radiators we're not just for looks, they actually worked very well, which we found is rare in Amsterdam having been 7 times before. Would definitely recommend to family, friends and tripadvisorers :) 5* all around

Tbh i would avoid this hotel. the room is tiny nothing like the pictures on the internet. played music till 1pm at night. the stairs are very steep! the shower is just a trickle. the bed well its like they just put a mattress on the floor terrible!! The tv didnt even work kept switching its self off. so much for the good views, outside our window was another building, with builders from 8-5pm banging hammering shocking we wasnt even warn about it. The staff are nice but the hotel i wouldnt even both its like a squatters yard.
"Not a good place to stay"
07/24/14 Maggie K Toronto, Canada
Location of this place is good. However, the photos make it look way better than it actually is. It is a dirty hole. I'm so glad we were only stuck there for two nights. The stairs are also very dangerous.
