Comfortable accommodation in a residential neighborhood - short walk to Bloor St night life, etc. Next door to metro station. Rooms are very simply and roughly furnished but have tv, microwave, refrigerator. Staff is friendly and helpful, but only on duty during the day. Try to get one of the rooms in the rear.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, good value"
Staff was very helpful. The room was neat and tidy and had everything I needed for a very restful night. And it had a most interesting picture. I'd stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean room at great price in handy location"
Great clean room with ensuite, comfy bed, fridge and snacks included, right next to the metro entrance, easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. The manager (Lori) was really helpful and friendly, no noise from other guests. Staff only on site during the day but contact provided in case of problems (not that I had any). Exactly what I needed […] for three nights at a great price! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Terrible - lesson learned "

I stayed here in June for two days and realize now that's as long as I could handle this place now after spending nearly two weeks there. The room I was in was gorgeous and that is all. The rest, everything from a 4 inch mattress ( very uncomfortable) to dirty bathroom, oh and 'amenities for long term guests' (which turned out to be coin laundry and that is all.) Snacks included snack pack jello, which is probably one molecule away from being plastic. Coffee, probably the worst I've had yet. They keep the back door open day and night - inviting bugs, bums, and more bugs. I won't be back here anytime soon. Hotels for a few dollars extra make much more sense.
"Annex Quest House"

We needed a low price room for a few nights in Toronto. We didn't mind not having a plush super fancy room. Just wanted a clean warm decent room we could manage. The Annex Quest House fit the bill perfectly. It has the basics and no more. The service by the manager is excellent and she was very pleasant. We stayed in the best room on the top floor so I can't say anything about other rooms. Two CPAPs needed outlets near the bed and they were present since we had long cords. The manager would have helped with electrical connections if we needed it. Bathroom was clean but small. The shower has a slanted ceiling so 5'10" is about all the height it can accommodate. Space is tight in the bathroom. But, it was very clean and tidy. Plenty of towels, washcloths, and toilet paper. Nice TV w/cable. This is what you want if your more concerned about saving money than fancy rooms. Definitely has a pleasant atmosphere, felt safe, and enjoyed the stay. Free coffee and good quality snacks for guests.
"Great Place To Stay - Clean, Safe and Dry"

Stayed at Annex House on 83 Spadina Road for the first time for Sept 7th to 12th, 2014. Great place to stay and located next door to the Bloor-Spadina Station, which means 14 minutes to Union Station downtown. Very clean and very little rug or carpeting. All furnishing either wood or easily laundered or washed cloth, unlike those big hotels continuing to use those infrequently washed bedspreads. Would say the Vasta structure has a lot to do with it. It is also located to Honest Ed's (a definite tourist destin you must go to before it closes up) and at least 100 restarants and pubs easily within a 5 minute walk. Will I stay there again? Most definitely!. Best "Clean, Safe, Dry Accommodation Deal In Downtown Toronto!" - James C, Pincher Creek AB
"Friendly staff, good location"

This is more of an inn than a hotel offering plenty of charm in a converted Annex style house. While this makes the layout a bit odd and cramped and the rooms not that large, it has been completely renovated and the rooms are clean and modern and nicely decorated. Free wifi, bottled water, mini-fridge, and snacks. All of the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The subway entrance is literally right next door and getting around is very convenient. There are endless options of places to find great food in easy walking distance. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, and the 4 stars is based on the type of place that it is, but I enjoyed the neighborhood, the charm, and the reception. I would go back again.
"Another nice experience"

We've visited them again in a long time. Nicely maintained, same friendly atmosphere, clean and tidy. Not much option of rooms as all of us came for same events I guess, but overall a great experience at much lower cost than hotels round the corner. Have recommended to our friends and came together this time.

Poor initial first impression was difficult to erase. Small unswept and dirty front entryway leads to a narrow hallway around which office could be found. Stairway up to the third floor was narrow and hot, half empty bag of toilet paper rolls remained on the landing for our entire four day stay. ThIrd/top floor room had window that would only partially open and never let enough air in to cool off the room , even as the evenings cooled down, requiring constant running of noisy room air conditioner (even while we were out during the day). The noise of the ac did block the noisy traffic, as the house is on a noisy heavily travelled street. Room was furnished with shabby and worn 'garage sale' type furniture, although the bed was comfortable and the bathroom shower decent. Room service was non-existent, and i had to ask repeatedly for them to empty the garbage and give us some clean towels. It apparently had 'slipped the mind' of the staff to pick up our room. Returning at 3:00 on the following day, they 'hadn't gotten to it yet". Office staff seemed quite confused, initially reserving two rooms for us , although i had only reserved one, and then not seeing yet another email when i responded that we wanted one room only. Price quoted on the room also increased twenty dollars, although they later denied ever giving me a lower quote. Office staff was also curt , except for one woman who helped us out with printing something. ALthough check in was to be at 3:00, the room was not ready at 2:45 and we were told to go around the corner to the coffee shop. Felt quite depressing returning to this hotel and i would say it definitely detracted from our stay in Toronto. The place definitely needs some 'spiffing up" and better management.
"Simple and comfortable"

It was great to have the mini snack bar especially with water: the drink of life. The view of the sky and trees from my window was my therapy every morning. The walls are thin though so I was disturbed by noises. I stayed here for 2 and 1/2 months so that can become annoying. The decor is interesting but I think a bit too much for the space. I would recommend it though because it's simple and comfortable enough.

Overall, I like the concept of this place, but it feels as though it's past its prime, perhaps having lost its original management (??) The good: comfortable, clean bed; reasonably well-appointed room; interesting sink faucet; right next to subway station; parking available; easy walking distance to many attractions The not-so-good: tiny bathroom has ceiling caving in over shower; at about 6:30 a.m., a plumbing problem presented in the form of regular thumping in the walls somewhere... lasted for about 10 minutes... most disruptive to sleeping (come to think of it, maybe it was other guests enjoying an amorous morning, tho there really didn't seem to be anyone else staying there on the day we were there)... when I mentioned this disruption to the staff, the young lady advised that it is an old house, so noises are to be expected; parking area immediately beside subway station; back external stairway entrance was unsafe; complementary food is a study in preservatives
"Our go-to guest house in TO"
07/08/14 Foodie_Mouse Montreal, Canada
Everything in downtown Toronto is expensive, so even though I would like this place to be a bit more affordable, when compared to the hotel and airbnb offerings, this still comes out the winner. The hubby and I love the Annex area of Toronto. It is great to stroll and things stay open late-- which we love! The guest house is basic, a little creaky at times and of course you'll hear other people when they go up the stairs and whatnot-- but it's clean, quaint and comfortable. The decor is charming.
"good location but noisy"

After reading reviews, I was looking forward of my stay at Annex. I did like my room when I entered it, it was cozy and I enjoyed my evening in my room when it was quiet. However, there were noise through the first two nights and steps/noise from upstairs could be heard clearly which was quite annoying in the early morning.
