"Henry Collins Inn"
Had an enjoyable one night stay. Breakfast was great, wide variety to choose from. Conversation with the owner revealed some upcoming renovations to the hotel which will add to the coziness to the hotel. Would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Kind staff, comfortable bed, decent location"
This was a very nice, and reasonable, inn in a good spot. Easy walking distance (about 8 minutes to Thames St.). Staff were very nice. The room was comfortable, though we were in #1 which was very close to the kitchen and was a bit noisy in the morning. Otherwise, a good stay for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Small rooms, but clean and comfortable. Adequate off-street parking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could Be Better"
It was interesting. The owners were nice. Hotel was very outdated. The upkeep outside was poor. Weeds growing everywhere. Not a very good welcoming site. Neighborhood not appealing. Eating area was extremely small and cramped. Breakfast on weekdays nothing special (bagels, fruit, banana bread). Weekend breakfast much better (included homemade apple […] pie, eggs, bacon). It was good enough if you needed a clean place to stay, but really didn't have any charm at all. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The inn was ok -- proprietor friendly"
The breakfast was tasty & coffee excellent! The owners need to do some major clean up of their flower beds & parking area!;) First impressions are important!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fantastic inn keepers!"
Great location, nice breakfast, free parking. The best was the wonder advice from the owners!Genuine Expedia guest review
The room size was good, the breakfast was good and it was within walking distance of downtownGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Exterior was shabby. Would not go back there. It is ok to sleep and go. Breakfast was goodGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The inn was a nice surprise, we weren't expecting much when we pulled up to the front. Also the neighborhood appears to be somewhat sketchy. But we were wrong. It appears to be a safe neighborhood, we walked around at night with no problem. It is also a short walk down Broadway to Washington Sq., Thames and Spring St. and the harbor. The room was spacious […] and clean and the breakfast in the morning was homey, healthy and filling! Alexis, one of the innkeepers, was very helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Amazing owners and great location"
We were looking for a one-night availability hotel in Newport. I was pleased to find The Henry Collins Inn. Besides the perfect location close to everything, the room was nice and spacious with a comfortable bed. The curators of the inn were really down to earth. Although we didn't eat the Sunday morning breakfast, the smells from the kitchen were […] delicious! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice family"
A very nice family owned and operated inn. It's location is great, being five minutes from the harbor and a number of other fine locations with its own parking lot. The interior has been recently renovated and smells good with a very nice bathroom and clean environment. There are only two cons, the surrounding neighborhood is ugly and a bit intimidating […] in early hours though not unsafe as you are right across from the Newport Police Station (they are literally on the other side of the street five feet away). The exterior also needs a fresh coat of paint (we passed it the first time thinking it wasn't an Inn) but the owners are working on that and by the time you read this it might already be done. The cost is good, the people are very nice so we will be staying again next year. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Decent room for the cost. It was clean and comfortable. The Inn Keeper was very nice and helpful. Breakfast in morning was good. I would stay again if looking for a low cost B&B for a quick Newport trip.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Bargain Off Broadway"
If you know Newport, you know that lower Broadway is very conveniently located to all the downtown attractions. Just two blocks from Washington Square, Henry Collins Inn is a short walk from Upper Thames were it all begins. Selena and Alexis are a wonderful mother-daughter hostess team whose warm hospitality and friendly demeanor can't be beat. For […] a very fair rate, you can expect a clean room with private bath, complimentary breakfast and off-street parking. If you prefer to keep it low-key and away from the downtown bustle, keep in mind that Broadway has a multitude of restaurants and bars with plenty of good eats and entertainment. "Close to downtown"
Hotel was very nice and walking distance to downtown. Owner was very pleasant to deal with and helpful with information on the area. Would suggest earplugs for sleeping because of the area. Urban living is not as quiet as country living. All in all, we were very happy with the stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great B & B"
This was a very cozy Bed and Breakfast right near the heart of Newport. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the staff was awesome. Breakfast was delicious and not constrained to eat with strangers. This was our first B&B and I highly recommend staying here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very convenient, very pleasant Innkeeper"
Very homey little inn of 5 rooms. Converted old place that provides all you need in a very convenient location. Innkeeper and daughter were pleasant and attentive without being "part of our vacation" like some operators of small establishments tend to do.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice Bed and Breakfast"
I haven't tried any other bed and breakfast so far but this is a very good one. We chose this place since this was conveniently located on the center of newport close to downtown and many other places. I would recommend trying this place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is where we stayed during our trip to Newport. The location was perfect for us because our friends live a block and a half away. It is right next to the police department which we didn’t even really notice. The best part is that it is walking distance to so many restaurants, bars, parks, and shopping. We stayed over the 4th of July and ended up […] walking to a gorgeous pier to watch the fireworks on the 5th. The price for the weekend was at least half of what everywhere else was charging in the area. We stayed in Henry’s Suite and the room was great. The bed could’ve been a little less firm but we are not complaining. The bathroom even has a jetted tub! It would have been easy to sleep one more person on the little twin futon that was in the entrance of the room. We had breakfast in the mornings that consisted of eggs made to order, bacon, fruit, bagels, and of course the pie! The mother/daughter team that runs the place are both very friendly and helpful. We hope to return to Newport someday and will defiantly stay at the Henry Collins again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Newport's Other Side of the Tracks"
The location was an easy walk into town, but the surroundings were less than comfortable. The police station was right next door so that helped some, but neighbors included tatoo parlors, an apparent low income housing development and some sort of shelter. Not the Newport waterfront living. The room did have it's own bathroom and was acceptable - clean. […] Parking was easy. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We were very happy with the enthusiasm and friendliness of the two hosts. The breakfast was very well presented with excellent fresh fruit and pie. There was free wifi that was not noted in the description. The location was convenient to the attractions but is part of a neighborhood rather than in typical tourist area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hosts were very accomodating, beds comfortable.. We will stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great family run B&B"
We were very happy with our stay. Wonderful family, service and breakfast. Pies are incredible!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We got there at 5pm and our host needed to rush out to visit someone coming to town so we felt rushed and like we were inconveniencing her. We liked our room EXCEPT for the bed which felt like a board. It was so hard! It was quiet and private which was nice. Very small TV - like 12". The location was an easy walk to the boardwalk and area restaurants […] which we liked. The highlight was breakfast - laid back and our hostess made our eggs to order as we sat in the kitchen with her. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great lovely rooms and breakfast great and the two owners kind and helpful they go out of their way to please you. Quite charming and a great rest.Genuine Expedia guest review
Room on first floor is very spacious and has private deck and entrance which was great although you could hear breakfast being prepared in the early morning. Fresh baked pie in the morning was delicious! Close, walking distance to downtown. Innkeepers were friendly and welcoming. The inn is very reasonably priced, I would definitely recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a wonderful time in Newport and a great night's sleep at the inn. The food for breakfast was superb! And the hot, made fresh, from scratch pie was out of this world! Close to walking distance of shops and wharf and dining. We were able to keep our car at inn while we explored the city and sites and didn't have to pay for parking downtown was […] an extra special amenity! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location right near downtown."
The place was clean and conveniently located a short walk near downtown. They let us check in early and the building had private parking for customers so we didn't have to use the street or pay extra. Room was big, no noise at night and breakfast was real good. Even baked us an apple pie!Genuine Expedia guest review
The B&B was in a good locations walk able to different parts of Newport. The hosted are friendly. It has parking which is convenient in Newport. The Breakfast and pie was good in the morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"did not stop and went somehere else!"
Ok looks can be deceiving but we decided very quickly that this Inn was not providing the appearance that we expected, on a cross roads, with nothing around except what appeared to be run down part of town with a police station and parking lot across the road. We headed straight to the marina area and to a lovely motel instead, The ratings of 3 as provided […] is simply due to the need to provide a mark but we did not wait no check to see what the interior consisted off. Incidently check in time is limited to certain hours in the day which can be compromising if on road trip although thiswas not an issue for us. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Handy spot, well kept with parking and in walking distance to retaurants, Harbour and shops in Newport. This is a great find!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Comfortable, Good Location"
09/29/14 Ktraveler2013 New York City, New York
We were looking for a cost-effective and pet-friendly place to stay in Newport, RI and the Henry Collins fit the bill. It exceeded my expectations and was clean and comfortable. The location was very convenient and walkable to the waterfront areas and the historic neighborhoods. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful and made sure we were comfortable, and the homemade breakfast stood out. Other reviewers have noted the "rough" neighborhood. While yes, this inn is not in the main tourist area and borders some working-class streets, we're talking about Newport, RI... it's all pretty tame. I felt safe in the area.
"Adorable and Homey"
09/15/14 Marlo C San Diego, California
I stayed here four nights with my husband to visit my family in Newport and fell in love with this adorable Inn. The innkeepers, a mother and daughter, were very friendly from the check-in to breakfast. Our room was comfortable with vintage décor, quilted bedspreads a small mini fridge and television. The fresh-baked pie for breakfast on Saturday was a pleasant surprise along with the gorgeous breakfast spread. The weekday breakfasts also offered a decent selection of fresh fruit, breads and bagels. I don't think we could have found a more welcoming inn so close to downtown Newport at a better price. We will definitely be staying here again.
""A Pleasant Surprise""
09/14/14 StormyDaze0929 West Seneca, New York
Upon arrival, we were a bit taken back by the appearance of the neighborhood. However, the Police Station was right next door (along with several tattoo parlors, and some not so nice housing.) However, upon meeting Alexis, the Innkeeper, she made us feel right at ease. Our room was quite ready, she was making it up, as we walked in. You could smell the scent of clean laundry. She was making our bed herself. She apologized for running behind, but we were actually a bit early. The Inn came with parking privileges, which was fantastic, since parking in Newport can be a nightmare. She asked if we'd be attending breakfast the next morning, and told us what was on the menu. Our room was big, clean, comfortable, and inviting. It was charming, and even had a little private patio with a private entrance. The building was like a home with a sitting area, and a kitchen, that I'm assuming were off limits, but out room had a small frig and a small kitchen table in it. The only odd thing was that the shower was not located in the bathroom. It was separated by a folding partition from the "kitchenette" area, and the shower/jetted tub was a step down tub, not very conveniently located, and a bit difficult to get in or out of if you have arthritis or any knee issues. The TV was also very small. But again, we weren't there to stay in the room all day/night. Once inside, we felt very safe, and comfortable. Because we were on the first floor, next to the kitchen, I thought it would be noisy in the morning. It was not. I could smell toast, and coffee. When we got up, everyone was very friendly. There was fresh fruit, and coffee, and homemade pie on the table! We didn't partake in the breakfast, as we were leaving, but we did have a very nice stay there. It was a pleasant surprise, from my first impression of the neighborhood. Please, don't judge a book by it's cover.

We booked this through expedia which called it a quaint B&B....it is disgusting, dirty and smelly...ands neither the Henry Collins Inn or Expegia would let us cancel with refund after we arrived and were horrified at the conditions. We have been Expedia fans for years booking flights, hotels and rental cars but that will never gap urn again after this terrifying experience.
"comfortable, nice place to stay"
09/04/14 Lauren S Alexandria, Virginia
There are A LOT of B&Bs and Inns in Newport. If you're looking for something with personality and charm that won't cost an arm and a leg, like many places in Newport do, the Henry Collins Inn is perfect. It is not much to see from the outside, but the inside is really comfortable. There is free onsite parking available and I learned from my short time in Newport, that is something that comes at a premium. The owner was there upon arrival to take me to my room and also give some good recommendations for dinner. The rooms are good sized and the beds were really comfortable. The location of the hotel is good. It's an easy drive from the Mansions and a short walk down to Thames Street and the many restaurants, shops and bars there. There was also a really, good, lovely breakfast available in the mornings. The Henry Collins Inn is definitely a place I'd recommend staying.
"Just like home"

I am so glad we found this B&B. Alexis does a wonderful job. Our room was on the second floor and the stairs were a little steep but were not a problem. Our bed was very comfortable and very clean. We had a great breakfast - continental, lots of very fresh fruits, yogurt, bagels, muffins. The coffee was excellent. We walked to downtown most days and evenings for lunch and dinner. They have parking at the inn which is very nice. Prices are very reasonable especially considering the area. I highly recommend the Inn.
"Don't be alarmed!"
08/27/14 Amy C Zeeland, Michigan
Our initial reaction upon seeing the Inn was "NO WAY!" My husband and I were to stay 1 day/night in Newport to end our vacation. We were immediately turned off by the neighborhood surrounding the Inn and the appearance of the Inn itself. We decided to go in and see the room before we paid. We arrived 2 hours early and the innkeeper, Alexis was busy cleaning rooms and doing laundry. The place was a cluttered mess and I expressed my dismay to Alexis who very graciously assured me that everything would be clean and the neighborhood was very safe (the police station is next door!) We decided to stay and thought we would go see the mansions and do the Cliff Walk while our room was being readied. Alexis gave us great directions and a map and we set off for downtown. People were helpful and friendly and the town was clean and beautiful. When we returned to the Inn it was clean, tidy and smelled great. Our room was cool and clean. We had great showers and a good night sleep. Alexis provided fruit, breads and coffee in the morning and we set off for the airport. Will definitely stay here again!

"Good location, very friendly staff"
08/25/14 Duinseach Providence, Rhode Island
When we first drove up we weren't sure if we were at the Inn as the exterior looked a little shabby and the neighborhood was a bit ugly (concrete and tattoo parlors surrounded the Inn) though is very safe being right next to the Newport Police Station. There is a dedicated parking lot though, and once you step into the Inn it's a bit of a night and day experience. The interior is nice and clean (the smell of clean linen greets you right away). The rooms are very spacious (the bed tends to be a bit hard) and the bathrooms are very nice (we loved the shower). The location is great though, you are five minutes from the Opera House and shopping districts on the wharf. If you want to go to the cliff walk or to the beach it is a twenty minute walk past the international Tennis Hall of Fame. The price is great here too. We will stay here again in the future.
"Very affordable for Newport"
08/24/14 Lyncroft Quebec
Located right next to the police station and less than 1 km from the port and tourist area, this little B&B offers decent accommodation for the budget-minded traveller. Reservations can be made through the website with confirmation within 24 hours. A 50% down payment is required to guarantee the room. We arrived after 2 p.m. as specified and were shown to our room (no 5) immediately. It had a queen bed, small t.v. & fridge, closet, dresser and bathroom with shower. Everything was clean and comfortable. While not overly spacious, the room had a overall pleasant look. However, the walls proved to be a bit thin and one could sometimes overhear the people in the next room. Hot water was plentiful but the water pressure was a bit weak. Room service was a bit slow (our room was made up only in the afternoon every day) but it is a small business with only one person to see to everything during the day. The free Wifi worked well. Breakfast was served at 8 a.m. and consisted of breads, cereals, fresh fruits, yoghourts and usual beverages. The eating area was a bit tight but, on a nice day, one could eat outside on the little deck. It is possible to use the microwave to warm up something for supper but the Café Corner (BYOW) nearby has very good pizzas and hamburgers. Note that there are no supermarkets really close by, the nearest being 1.5 km away. Overall, the Henry Collins was quite satisfactory. We slept well, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the price of the room was affordable and included parking and breakfast. What more can one ask?
