"Definitely a lodge hotel."
Compared to other hotels we have stayed in on our trip across Canada this was our least favorite. It was clean. Room was small . Nothing else around lodge to do. Food was good restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Average hotel reasonably close to some must-sees"
I felt we certainly could have had a more comfortable stay at another hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and hospitable, and the scenery from the hotel was breathtaking, which helped compensate for what the hotel lacked otherwise. It had older rooms, sparingly furnished, with beds of average comfort. In addition, the hotel did not have double-pane […] windows in the rooms, and the hotel is located right off Canadian Hwy 1, with a train track right across from a little lake next to Hwy 1. While the noise of the trucks and trains that ran all night long did not bother us, it was definitely not quiet by any means. A simple upgrade to double-pane windows would go a long way to remedy this situation. The location in terms of proximity to Lake Louise and other must-see sights, it was an okay location. I would definitely recommend staying in the village of Lake Louise (this hotel is located 25 km from Lake Louise, in the village of Field). All in all, we did have a pleasant stay, mainly because the hotel staff was very good, but I know I could have done better without spending that much more. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good but not great"
I stayed here for just one night. My room is clean with a very nice view of the lake. The bed is comfortable but since the hotel is located right next to the road, I could hear traffic noise in the evening with windows closed. I had to put on earplugs which was helpful. I am not a fan of the fluorescent lights in the bathroom. Some updates to the room […] would be a nice touch. The service is great, though - friendly and helpful. My biggest complaint would be the lack of wifi. It is complementary but it did not work at all. I did not try the restaurant. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We enjoyed our stay at the Great Divide Lodge because it was close to several locations we wanted to visit. The service by the employees was excellent and the hotel was very comfortable. >Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice clean hotel in a great location."
If you are looking for a lot of amenities, this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a clean, affordable hotel in a great location, then this is perfect. No, it wasn't glamorous but I still enjoyed it. It is near a beautiful lake and a lot of hiking trails. If you want a great view with a balcony, choose a "lake view" room. Be aware […] though that these rooms also face a busy highway. If noise bothers you, you may not like it. I chose a back "forest view" room and was able to sleep with my window open both nights. It was great. The bathrooms also do not have hairdryers so be sure to bring one with you if you need one. I had read this prior to my stay and brought one so it was no big deal. Ver rustic, no elevator to guest rooms on 2nd floor. Old people have to carry luggage up! Extremely small room, basic and clean enough. Room was very warm with no way to turn off heat, open window admitted sounds from the highway, just feet away from our window. Dinner was adequate and quite a bargain, staff extremely friendly and helpful, except when […] moving luggage up and down the rustic wood stairway. Also! Directions at hotels.com is about 12 miles wrong! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely Location But In Need Of Renovation"
First let me point out that we only stayed for one night. We chose this hotel purely on price because those available in Lake Louise were infinitely more expensive but had similar reviews. That being said when we arrived they were advertising rooms at a cheaper rate than we actually paid online but that's they way it sometimes goes. The location was […] very good only 15 kms from Lake Louise and it sits with a spectacular lake in front of the hotel. However, a room at the front gets yopu highway/train track noise whilst a room at the back gets a generator noise. So we got room 5 at the back and our window did not close properly (gap of about an inch at the top and a big crack in the glass so didn't try to slam it shut) and this could be a problem in cold weather but for us it was not an issue. The generator did run all night but the noise was greatly reduced at about eight o'clock and we found it did not disturb our sleep. Room was comfortable if a little compact as the double bed was against one wall which meant one would have to climb over the other to get out of bed! However, since we were only two we used both beds and so again this wasn't an issue for us. Bathroom was well stocked and water was instantly hot. Breakfast was continental affair with not a lot of variety but quality was good and it was fit for purpose. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Noisy nocturnals. 2 night stay."
We had a room "with a lake view". Between us and the lake was the trans-Canada Highway, carrying heavy transit vehicles through the night. The far side of the narrow lake, freight trains two thirds of a mile long ran through the night, grinding and squealing their slow passage. The hotel also had a generator or pump that hummed strongly throughout the […] night, even through the pillow. All these things were less intrusive on the second night, but the bed sagged in the middle so that my wife and I found ourselves colliding more than we intended! Otherwise, the staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was included and an evening meal was reasonably priced and met our needs. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Clean room, great view of lake and mountains, very nice staff. Basic breakfast options but with good coffee. Noisy room both from external road traffic , trains at night and surrounding guests in rooms. Needs to be renovated, showing its age.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Reasonably priced hotel near BC-Alberta border"
We stayed one night in a recently refurbished room, which was limited in amenities (no fridge or safe) and had the TV in a strange position for viewing from the beds. That said, the room was exceptionally clean, the double single bunks really comfortable and the staff very helpful and easygoing when we checked out a little late. The hotel is by a nice […] lake but is also on a busy road which can be a little noisy. It has an on-site bar and restaurant but everywhere else is a 10 minute drive. Lake Louise is one way and the quaint and homely town of Field slightly nearer the other way - well worth a visit on route to Emerald Lake or into Eastern BC. Overall, we thought the hotel was good value and a perfect place to break up a long journey for a night or if Lake Louise and central Field accommodation is fully booked or too expensive. Nice location, right next to some hiking trails just off the highway. No cell phone signal while I was there. I was in a room that was renovated, though wasn't completely renovated (ie still has original tub, tv isn't flat screen yet). Some of the cabins behind the hotel looked like they had sketchy looking roofs (ie plywood where there should be shingles), […] I don't know if they are still under renovation or a cheap repair job, didn't see the inside of the cabins to see their condition. I went for the $38 sale on hotels.com and didn't realize it was a shared hotel room until after I booked, they still had available private rooms and were able to upgrade my room without any issues. We stayed here for 3 nights during a long tour of the rockies. Unfortunately, we were booking late and many other places were already sold out leaving us with few options. This hotel is located right on a main road across from a big beautiful lake. The lake view is lovely and does make up for the busy street. The hotel itself is very dated and no frills. Our room had a very old bathroom, two small beds, a small tv, and a small table. There was no phone, tea/coffee in room, and a very shoddy internet connection. Breakfast was bread, tea/coffee, cereal, bad juice and sometimes a piece of fruit if you were lucky. There was a restaurant and bar but it never seemed open and the menu prices were very high. We also found the staff rather disinterested and they would barely acknowledge you. This hotel served its purpose, but for the price, we would not stay here again.
"Perfect Location but needs renovation"

We chose this over the hotels in Lake Louise just on price. It's located outside the town of Field and has the highway out front with a lovely lake view for the rooms at the front and finally the train track before the trees and mountains take over. Having read the reviews and been informed of the potential issues we would have to make the following comment about our stay. We were appointed a room at the back and found that our window did not close properly (about an inch gap at the top and a great crack in the glass) and I guess this would cause temperature and noise issues but we were stopping on a warm day and that did not bother us. The generator that is out the back was going full tilt and the noise could be heard but at eight o'clock it suddenly faded (as if somebody had shut the door on it) and we both commented that the background hum did not disturb either of us during sleep. The room was rather small and cramped as the double bed was up against the wall which would mean climbing over to use the bathroom during the night. We solved this by using the single bed in the room and so again not an issue for us. The bathroom was clean and functional with all the condiments you would expect and the shower worked well. Breakfast was included and was a continental style but I was slightly disappointed with the lack of choice and the toasters seemed to take forever (I'm sure taking the bread outside and holding it up to the sun would have been quicker). However, all in all it was a restful night and much more reasonable that stopping in LL but I do not think a prolonged stay would have left us with the same impression. So I would recommend a new coat of paint, some basic repairs and perhaps a little spruce up in the rooms and this would be a perfectly acceptable place to stay BUT if you are just passing through then it is probably one of the better options for you.
"Perfect location, terrible hotel"

The place all around it is beautiful, but the hotel is terrible. Very dirty and very old. The food in the restaurant wasn't good. The only thing that saves it is the location close to Lake Louise. I would not stay here again.

When exploring is on the list the Great Divide Lodge is perfectly located for checking out the awesome surrounding area. Situated between Field BC and Lake Louise AB you can explore the Takakkaw Falls during the day and head to Lake Louise for a gourmet dinner. The Icefield Parkway is minutes away and going west from the Great Divide Lodge is an enjoyable drive thru the Rockies to Golden BC. We throughly enjoyed our stay in the hostel section of the lodge, clean rooms with comfy bunks (4 person rooms) and friendly staff made this a great end to our summer. We enjoyed delicious food, including gluten free, in the dining room overlooking Wapta Lake and retired to the common room to sit and relax in front of a cosy fire. We look forward to returning soon to explore more this winter.
"Budget Hotel for Lake Louise"
09/09/14 drfish2000 Honolulu
We stayed here because the lodging around Lake Louise looked pricey and BnB's were all filled. This placed looked like an old saloon like I see in cowboy movies, with a bar downstairs, an old walkup staircase, and rooms in a row upstairs. The room was clean, had a bright green bathtub, and nice firm mattresses. Seems like there is no bath exhaust fans in Canada, so beware of your roommate's odors. Our room faced the hillside so it was very quiet. Fixtures and furnishing all looked new. You can hear bathroom water noises, but try to ignore that. Breakfast was very large, filling and free. This is a great stop-over lodging.,
"Would not Stay Here Again..."
09/08/14 Joan B
Should have read the reviews before booking this hotel; learned the hard way. The folks working there were VERY nice. However, the place itself did not impress me at all. Of course, the old saying "you get what you pay for", should have been an inkling. The room (Room 6) was so small it was comical. If you get claustrophobic, you should stay away. I couldn't even get my battery charger to stay in the outlet without bracing something against it. There is no A/C which is fine if you could leave the windows open without hearing the constant sound of traffic on the highway right outside the front of the hotel. Thank goodness we only booked one night here; I couldn't handle another night of no sleep.
"Good to crash for a few hours if you are dead tired"
09/07/14 TimbitnMuffin Burnaby, Canada
The lodge is very, old, basic but clean wood floor with ok bed but the bath is way out of date and in departed need of updating. Nights are cool even in the summer so the newer vinyl windows are good enough only if you are not in a lake view room (highway noise). The electrical system is so old that light flicker when load is high so they definitely cannot install AC without a major electrical upgrade. Oh, if the highway noise is enough for you, the battery operated tic tock alarm clock should help keep you awake. Ok place if you need to crash for a few hours only if you are so tired that nothing will keep you awake. The front desk girl did not seem to want to be there so we did not fell welcomed at all. We were delayed by road closure so when we reached Golden at 11:30pm to grab dinner, she called to confirmed if we will be checking in and reminded us that that check in deadline is 2:00AM - so I told her we were in Golden waiting to be seated for dinner and asked how long a drive to hotel. She answered 1.5 hours but failed to remind us that they are one hour ahead (we almost missed check in)...arrived at 1:30 in our room and noted that the time on the clock. I guess that is our fault for not researching. If you need breakfast or even coffee by 6:15AM, you won't get it even though staff arrive at 6:00AM, they have not started brewing coffee by 6:15AM. Try elsewhere! We were there for the Burgess Shale hike and we think that hostel near the start of the hike could be a much better option...heck it may have been more comfortable sleeping in our van.
"Great value for the money. Simple but sufficient."
09/03/14 Mali G New York City, New York
We stayed there unplanned because all other place near Lake Louise were either fully booked or very pricy. It turned out to be a very pleasant place. Rooms are very simple but clean and nice. The staff was very helpful and kind and the view to the lake is beautiful. The location is about 10-15 min drive from Lake Louise and definitely worth it especially for its reasonable price.
"Unique place to stay."
We thought this place was great. Yes it was a bit old and yes the breakfast was not the greatest and the rooms were quite small and plain. On the other hand there is great mountain scenery with a picturesque lake just across the road. If you are a train buff which we are this is an amazing place to watch trains. The track is just beyond the lake. This is the main Canadian Pacific line. It is very busy lots to see. Then right out front you have the Trans Canada highway. We were not bothered by noise at all. We enjoyed the variety of traffic. The hotel location is very good there is lots to do in both directions from it. The staff was very good. All is all we would stay here again.

We stayed one night here on out trip up to Jasper. Very friendly staff. About 15 minutes drive from Lake Louise. The rooms are basic but clean. Beautiful view, but the traffic outside is continual till around 2am. Value hotel. Continental breakfast included.
