"Cheap but central"
It should be noted that the bar downstairs is very popular! We stayed over a weekend and our top floor room had windows vibrating until after 2am. This hostel is very basic and could probably use a little upkeep but it's is in a great location and was pretty clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good location and value for money. Good if you're a youngand single backpacker. If your looking to party till 2am every night then this is the place, if not do not stay here, you won't sleep till gone 2am.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was pretty basic as expected. Being above a bar, it can get pretty loud downstairs. However, the hostel is in a GREAT location, near Gastown, transit, shopping, etc. Muffins & coffee are included free for breakfast but you can get a card from the front desk to show at a nearby cafe to get a full breakfast (bacon/sausage, eggs, toast, coffee) […] for $5, which was a great deal. "one night stay"
I stayed here on a Sunday night while passing through Vancouver. I arrived late and checked out early so wasn't there very long. Contrary to other reviews, it was extremely quiet during my stay. I didn't see many other people around at all. Check in was easy and the staff were very friendly. The muffins in the morning were a treat, perhaps my favourite […] part of the stay. The room was clean but very hot but there was a window which you could keep open using a wooden block provided. However having the window open meant having to listen to all the outside noise. There are a lot of weird people outside who seem to want to yell and scream at someone/nothing in the wee hours of the morning and I started getting creeped out that someone would climb through the window somehow so I closed it. I paid almost $70 for a private room which I think is quite high for what I ended up getting. The shared bathrooms were not on my floor and that was an inconvenience. Next time I'll just pay the extra and stay at a real hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Simple rooms but clean and good lighting. Great neighbourhood, walking distance to everything!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Really really nice employees. 5$ breakfast which was delicious. Perfect location for people like me who doesn't travel with a car. The room and the washroom is surprisingly clean. Even though the room was small and only has a bed and a table, for all means I was just there for sleeping, so it didn't really bother me. Music was loud at night during weekends, […] but I loved the music played, and I can easily fall in sleep with the loud music, so it also didn't bother me and my boyfriend. It was worth my money! "Cheap rate, nice room at the heart of vancouver downtown :)"

Staying here for 8 days.. in a 2 bed double deck dorm room.. it cost me $31 a night... food is great...and reasonable price...theres pub and resturant downstairs so anytime you can just swing by and eat or drink... the place is safe and clean... they have housekeeper to make up the room and clean the facility... wifi is fast, laundry cost me $3.25 for 1 load... including drying... theres underground parking just next to the hotel cost me $5 for overight parking till 6am, theres lots of restaurants outside... near the church.. if u wanna rent a car theres also near the hostel 2 blocks away... its a bit noisy outside so bring some ear plug...and the floor is timber.. so u can really hear the noise outside your door.... theres no lamp shade inside the room so its dark inside try to bring some little lamp that u can plug for ur convinence if u have roomate so u wont disturb the by turning the lights on... showe have hot and cold.. but in the morning hot shower doesnt function. Theres also a electric socket inside the washroom so if u have hair dryer u can use it inside the washroom. Friendly and accomodating staff... so far everything is well... i would recomend this place for travellers with low budget for accomodation ;)

Great staff, very helpful, friendly, they let me stay for an extended time. I got it together at this place and ended up living in vancouver for awhile. These folks will help a weary traveler for sure and the muffins were good.

My husband and I just had a short stay in Vancouver and needed somewhere cheap and comfortable to stay the night. Here are the pros and cons to this hostel. LOCATION: *Awesome - close to Granville *Close to Downtown *Close to the water (you can hire bikes down there to ride around Stanley park) *There are some good clothing shops nearby too. ROOM: *We can only comment on our room which was a private with a double bed. That is all it is - the room just fits the double bed and a small table beside it. The covers on the bed were warm enough but aesthetically a bit dull...the paint was dull...no paintings or anything funky to give this room a good vibe. Even the dodgiest of hostels seem funkier with painted awnings etc. This room was kind of like a jail cell... *The window was a bit difficult to close and did not shield us from the winter weather - so we had to snuggle for warmth..but who is complaining there? *The street noise was fairly loud - we could even hear the 'walking indicator' ticking at times... *The bed is quite firm and we personally, had a fantastic night's sleep *WALKWAY - the hallway is made of timber that is very noisy when people walk...also the walls are quite thin and you can hear the next room's conversation clearly... so depending on your neighbours, you could be in for a rough night or not even notice them! *Also...the fire alarm in our room was dangling from the roof without a case - not sure if that breaches safety or not but it is noteworthy. BATHROOM *Basic. One for men and women on each level. There are two basins, toilets, and showers. The showers have a hook outside them to hang your stuff but no where to put your things inside. This is a big pain for a female...you are only able to bring stuff into the shower that can get wet or step out to grab clothes, towel etc. So a bit awkward for a public bathroom. Most hostels have like...an enclave that you can put your stuff in so you can undress in the shower, shower and redress. So it is a bit of a weird design *Otherwise, a nice bathroom that feels somewhat homely CLEANLINESS *Room - very clean! *Bathroom - very clean! RECEPTION *Great - 24 hours *Your stay includes free tea/coffee and a muffin - woo! COMMON ROOM *Very average, small and not a place to really meet people. *There is one computer if you want to use the internet STAFF *All staff we dealt with were not only friendly, but very knowledgeable of the area and how to get around BAGGAGE *This hostel allows guests (after they have checked out) to leave their bags in the hostel that day for as long as they need - they tag them and take them away to a room only accessed by staff. This was an essential need for us as we were staying at the US embassy and could not take luggage with us WIFI *Great signal! Very impressed with it -some hostels struggle getting good wifi but the Cambie Seymour is not one of those! FOOD *The attached bar/pub has a great vibe. Lots of locals though and not quite the place to meet people if that's what you seek in a hostel. Otherwise great food and lots of different beers to try *Malone's bar next door also screens sport (great for the sport-enthused) and have events such as karaoke and trivia - good fun! *There is also a smaller bar which is for the hostel but didn't really seem to be "pumping" with people etc. ***OVERALL*** (TLDR) Great for a cheap night's accommodation - but it is average on many aspects. If that is what you want, you will be well looked after by LOVELY STAFF and thoroughly enjoy your stay in Vancouver. After all, you aren't there to sleep. You are there to see all this gorgeous, Canadian city has to offer =)

My wife and I stayed in September of 2013 1 night. it was easy to find the staff was exceedingly nice and helpful. I read soem of the comments I found are room a bit on the spartan side, but it was clean we slept well, If you don't lie to share a bathroom not the place for you but great price and handy for us going on a cruise. Stay there again in a heartbeat.

A hostel offering a two bed dorm is a rare experience, so it was a blessing that I found this place. Some of the staff are very friendly, but all of them are helpful. The breakfast muffins are huge. Not the best accommodation, but by no means the worst. Excellent location, you can walk to the fun parts of Vancouver.

Room is small for two. My roommate says it was just like staying in a prison. The prison don't have a heater, so it was quite cold. Luckily we asked the reception to provide us a radiator which it did. The light was very dim. And the bunk bed squeak a lot. There is no proper locker for storage except for a crest underneath the bunk bed. The worst is there was no lift. I had to carry the luggage for two floors which was very tiresome.
"not to bad."

the location is good and also the bar downstairs! the room was really small (2-bed room) and the beds were really uncomfortable, it was a little noisy and not super clean but it was ok for the price we payed. and the staff was very friendly!
"Not the worst but wouldn't recommend it!"

"Good enough for the price"

Just stayed here the 1 night, but some of the reviews are a bit harsh. It's very cheap and located right in the heart of downtown which is a major plus. Room was clean, building itself was absolutely fine and the bathroom was ok as well. It's not as good as the HI hostels or Samesun, but for what you pay it's grand. I'd only recommend staying 1 or 2 nights though, as you've got more noise from the traffic down Seymour and from people coming out of the bars nearby. There wasn't any air-con or fan in the room and it gets very warm - big problem if you're not used to the heat. Overall well worth the money for a short stay, if you need somewhere longer I'd go for the HI downtown or central.
My friend and I were visiting Vancouver and wanted somewhere cheap to stay for a few nights. And cheap was what we got. A sweltering hot room (the outside temp was only a high of 14 degrees...), mattress springs digging into our backs, bathroom stall doors that wouldn't lock, a mouse trap in the corner of our room (although it seems like the resident rodents are a bit too smart for that), and not to mention the BED BUG bites that we both ended up with! Disgusting! My friend is getting married in just over a week and has HUGE red welts all over her neck, arms, hands, and all over her back. We checked out the next morning and went to a real hotel! The thing that terrifies both of us is that we found a bed bug in my suitcase the next night! Now I pray to god that I didn't bring any home with me...
