"close to the worst one can find in a hotel"
This could be the worst hotel I ever stayed in, anywhere.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
In downtown, so unless you turn to bed late, don't expect a noise-less night. The price was very good for a one night stay. Downstairs bar was nice, and the service was great. Room is a bit unclean but what do you expect for a cheap price? Worth checking into if you're low on the budget side and with a group of friends.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
great location, great people that work there (those cleaning the rooms and the front desk people), but the hostel/rooms simply were in very rough shape. I didn't feel clean in my room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Feeling Hot Hot Hot!"
Given, when we booked this room, we knew what we were in for. Staff was very friendly and helpful, bathroom was very cleanly, and the complimentary muffins at the front desk were alright! The only downfall is that the hostel has NO air conditioning OR fans. We woke up drenched in sweat in the morning, and that was at 8am! The noise didn't bother me […] so much because we were planning on it being loud all night anyways. Overall, I think that if you're on a budget and looking for a place in a fix, then this is a great place. But in the summer, spend that little extra and get a place with at least a fan! "Cheap but central"
It should be noted that the bar downstairs is very popular! We stayed over a weekend and our top floor room had windows vibrating until after 2am. This hostel is very basic and could probably use a little upkeep but it's is in a great location and was pretty clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good location and value for money. Good if you're a youngand single backpacker. If your looking to party till 2am every night then this is the place, if not do not stay here, you won't sleep till gone 2am.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
For a hostel - this place was incredible. Super close to everything I needed downtown, there was a parkade right across the street that allowed for overnight parking and the staff were super friendly and helpful to everyone!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was pretty basic as expected. Being above a bar, it can get pretty loud downstairs. However, the hostel is in a GREAT location, near Gastown, transit, shopping, etc. Muffins & coffee are included free for breakfast but you can get a card from the front desk to show at a nearby cafe to get a full breakfast (bacon/sausage, eggs, toast, coffee) […] for $5, which was a great deal. "one night stay"
I stayed here on a Sunday night while passing through Vancouver. I arrived late and checked out early so wasn't there very long. Contrary to other reviews, it was extremely quiet during my stay. I didn't see many other people around at all. Check in was easy and the staff were very friendly. The muffins in the morning were a treat, perhaps my favourite […] part of the stay. The room was clean but very hot but there was a window which you could keep open using a wooden block provided. However having the window open meant having to listen to all the outside noise. There are a lot of weird people outside who seem to want to yell and scream at someone/nothing in the wee hours of the morning and I started getting creeped out that someone would climb through the window somehow so I closed it. I paid almost $70 for a private room which I think is quite high for what I ended up getting. The shared bathrooms were not on my floor and that was an inconvenience. Next time I'll just pay the extra and stay at a real hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Simple rooms but clean and good lighting. Great neighbourhood, walking distance to everything!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Really really nice employees. 5$ breakfast which was delicious. Perfect location for people like me who doesn't travel with a car. The room and the washroom is surprisingly clean. Even though the room was small and only has a bed and a table, for all means I was just there for sleeping, so it didn't really bother me. Music was loud at night during weekends, […] but I loved the music played, and I can easily fall in sleep with the loud music, so it also didn't bother me and my boyfriend. It was worth my money! "There was no air conditioning!"
There was no ac in the room so it was really hard to sleep. The hotel advertised that you could upgrade your breakfast to hot breakfast. We went to the place where the so called hot breakfast was served but they told that you can't do the upgrade and served us just the same muffins as the hostel. There was a nice bar just downstairs.

"nettes Hostel , zentrale Lage"
Ein echt nettes Hostel . Wir haben uns hier wohl gefühlt. Es liegt sehr zentral und man kann alles super zu Fuß erreichen. Auch eine kleine Kneipe ist angegliedert, trotzdem ist es ruhig.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Central and cheap, otherwise uncomfortable"

Hotels(dot)com declined to publish our review - which fully obeyed their guidelines - and have not offered any explanation for it. Kind of suspect, in our view. Especially since we didn't totally trash the hostel - just warned that it comes with lots of caveats. Basically, if all you care about is the price (and the location) then Cambie Seymour is an alright choice. If you value comfort at all, then do strongly consider other options. Cambie was the cheapest we could find near downtown, and as a bonus it had free coffee and muffins in the morning. The staff was friendly enough, and seemed security conscious, which is always good - especially considering the hostel is above a popular bar. The location was good, near the harbourfront, main shopping streets, and Gastown's bars and restaurants. However, we were mistaken in thinking that we'd manage anywhere for the price. Especially as it was for a few nights. The biggest red flag was the notice in the men's washroom, warning of leaving clothes on the floor, as apparently they've had bed bugs in the past. Now, we didn't have bug problems, but it did make us a bit paranoid with itches of times past. The overall cleanliness did leave something to be desired: the stairs had an unpleasant odour, and the public areas were semi-clean at best. It's difficult to tell if the room was tidy, as it was so worn. The corridors seemed to have been painted fairly recently, but the washrooms and our room - what mattered the most - had a lot of wear and tear: shabby chic just might have suited the hardwood floors, but not the MDF furniture. Furthermore, men's showers didn't work properly, and even with the women's showers getting bearable water temperature was akin to finding a distant AM station. There was no separate dressing space in the showers, the shower doors had frosted glass, and the washroom door was so swollen it would slowly fall open if not closed with force (most of the time it was open). So privacy was a bit of an issue. Our private room was really tiny, rundown and bleak, more reminiscent of how I'd imagine a 50's jail cell to be. There was one small window opening into a derelict inner courtyard. This window also provided the only ventilation. This was a problem, as an open window meant listening to sweet sounds of karaoke from the bar below until 2am, and then construction work in the courtyard from 7am. Even with a window closed we got to enjoy the lengthy, confessional monologues by people smoking and knocking back beverages at the nearby fire escape. Our room was on the top floor, i.e. 3 flights of stairs with no lift. Needed to descend a flight of stairs to get to the women's washroom from our room. We did stay in way nicer hostels after this in BC, at a lower cost, so I still think it's viable to expect somewhat better standard even for a hostel.

Bed Bugs. Plain and simple. Do not stay here. When mentioned to management the next day, the response was that it was something they were dealing with and were well aware that there was/ is bed bugs!!
"Don´t stay here if you want any sleep"
08/19/14 JerryC92 Sydney, Australia
First off, I found the staff to be great - always happy to answer any questions and accomodating. I stayed here thurs - sunday and got barely any sleep. The pub downstairs is open until 2am with a dj, then people seem to hang out on the street drunk and screaming until about 4am. I quite seriously did not get to sleep before 4am each night and usually I have no trouble sleeping. Not sure how it is early in the week but I would strongly advise not to stay here if you value your sleep.
"Cheap, clean but very noisy "
08/18/14 Sian_Holloway Southampton, United Kingdom
This was a cheap place to stay in downtown Vancouver. It has a good location and Malones bar below is good but during the summer they leave all the windows and doors (of which there are many!) open and so it's very very noisy until 2am. We were on a holiday so it didn't matter too much but don't stay here if you want a good nights sleep! Our bed was fine, the sheets were clean but the room was minuscule and had a mouse! We had free muffins and coffee or tea in the morning which was fine. Bathrooms were all very clean and so was the kitchen and common room. There wasn't much of a friendly atmosphere so we didn't meet any new friends. The common room is pretty small so no one really hangs out there. Good hostel if you want to stay in the downtown area.
"Terrible bad experience stay away"

Terrible experience i requested quieter room they on purpose provided 1st floor broken window room. Extremely Loud on top of night club, dirty and bed bugs & insects.. Stay somewhere else please avoid
"BED BUGS! BEWARE!"
I stayed here for 1 night and was absolutely attacked by bed bugs! And its only a small detail but the men's bathrooms werent even on my floor! It has decent service and location, but the bed bugs are a deal-breaker for me sorry.

Staying here for 8 days.. in a 2 bed double deck dorm room.. it cost me $31 a night... food is great...and reasonable price...theres pub and resturant downstairs so anytime you can just swing by and eat or drink... the place is safe and clean... they have housekeeper to make up the room and clean the facility... wifi is fast, laundry cost me $3.25 for 1 load... including drying... theres underground parking just next to the hotel cost me $5 for overight parking till 6am, theres lots of restaurants outside... near the church.. if u wanna rent a car theres also near the hostel 2 blocks away... its a bit noisy outside so bring some ear plug...and the floor is timber.. so u can really hear the noise outside your door.... theres no lamp shade inside the room so its dark inside try to bring some little lamp that u can plug for ur convinence if u have roomate so u wont disturb the by turning the lights on... showe have hot and cold.. but in the morning hot shower doesnt function. Theres also a electric socket inside the washroom so if u have hair dryer u can use it inside the washroom. Friendly and accomodating staff... so far everything is well... i would recomend this place for travellers with low budget for accomodation ;)

Great staff, very helpful, friendly, they let me stay for an extended time. I got it together at this place and ended up living in vancouver for awhile. These folks will help a weary traveler for sure and the muffins were good.
"The 'Seymour' Cambie Hostel Experience"
01/23/14 LilyJayne Brisbane, Australia
My husband and I just had a short stay in Vancouver and needed somewhere cheap and comfortable to stay the night. Here are the pros and cons to this hostel. LOCATION: *Awesome - close to Granville *Close to Downtown *Close to the water (you can hire bikes down there to ride around Stanley park) *There are some good clothing shops nearby too. ROOM: *We can only comment on our room which was a private with a double bed. That is all it is - the room just fits the double bed and a small table beside it. The covers on the bed were warm enough but aesthetically a bit dull...the paint was dull...no paintings or anything funky to give this room a good vibe. Even the dodgiest of hostels seem funkier with painted awnings etc. This room was kind of like a jail cell... *The window was a bit difficult to close and did not shield us from the winter weather - so we had to snuggle for warmth..but who is complaining there? *The street noise was fairly loud - we could even hear the 'walking indicator' ticking at times... *The bed is quite firm and we personally, had a fantastic night's sleep *WALKWAY - the hallway is made of timber that is very noisy when people walk...also the walls are quite thin and you can hear the next room's conversation clearly... so depending on your neighbours, you could be in for a rough night or not even notice them! *Also...the fire alarm in our room was dangling from the roof without a case - not sure if that breaches safety or not but it is noteworthy. BATHROOM *Basic. One for men and women on each level. There are two basins, toilets, and showers. The showers have a hook outside them to hang your stuff but no where to put your things inside. This is a big pain for a female...you are only able to bring stuff into the shower that can get wet or step out to grab clothes, towel etc. So a bit awkward for a public bathroom. Most hostels have like...an enclave that you can put your stuff in so you can undress in the shower, shower and redress. So it is a bit of a weird design *Otherwise, a nice bathroom that feels somewhat homely CLEANLINESS *Room - very clean! *Bathroom - very clean! RECEPTION *Great - 24 hours *Your stay includes free tea/coffee and a muffin - woo! COMMON ROOM *Very average, small and not a place to really meet people. *There is one computer if you want to use the internet STAFF *All staff we dealt with were not only friendly, but very knowledgeable of the area and how to get around BAGGAGE *This hostel allows guests (after they have checked out) to leave their bags in the hostel that day for as long as they need - they tag them and take them away to a room only accessed by staff. This was an essential need for us as we were staying at the US embassy and could not take luggage with us WIFI *Great signal! Very impressed with it -some hostels struggle getting good wifi but the Cambie Seymour is not one of those! FOOD *The attached bar/pub has a great vibe. Lots of locals though and not quite the place to meet people if that's what you seek in a hostel. Otherwise great food and lots of different beers to try *Malone's bar next door also screens sport (great for the sport-enthused) and have events such as karaoke and trivia - good fun! *There is also a smaller bar which is for the hostel but didn't really seem to be "pumping" with people etc. ***OVERALL*** (TLDR) Great for a cheap night's accommodation - but it is average on many aspects. If that is what you want, you will be well looked after by LOVELY STAFF and thoroughly enjoy your stay in Vancouver. After all, you aren't there to sleep. You are there to see all this gorgeous, Canadian city has to offer =)
