Our experience at Torel was our most memorable. In addition to the perfect location situated on a hill with beautiful views of Lisbon, the team at Torel made us feel terrific. They gave us great recommendations for Dinner and Fado which night after night turned out to be very special and ones we would not have found out about in a guide book.

As this stay in Lisbon was for my wife’s special Birthday, I wanted it all to be perfect, and so we were both hugely impressed upon arrival at the hotel, whereupon we were made to feel instantly welcome, and offered a glass of wine while we sat with Rodrigo (Manager), who kindly told us about the city, what to see/do, where to eat etc, before going to our room, which was just stunning. Our stay in Lisbon was amazing, and we managed to cram so much in, and were suitably tired at the end of each day, what with walking up and down the hills of the city in search of recommended restaurants and cafes, bars, and sights. Even though the hotel is at the top of a hill, luckily there is a funicular tram very close by, which is all part of the experience, but make sure you buy the 24 hour ticket (6 Euros) that lets you travel on all modes. The breakfast was superb, and we felt ready to take on the day after filling up on selection of breads, croissants, cake, fruit and yoghurt, all washed down with a nice English Breakfast tea. Rodrigo and the team were all very courteous, and were always asking if we needed any help finding anything on our excursions, and if we asked for a recommendation for somewhere to eat in a particular location, they were always on hand to provide excellent places. I cannot recommend this hotel and the team that work there highly enough, and were we ever to return to Lisbon this would be our first choice to stay at.

Hotel was excellent is a great location with fantastic views of the city. Be warned and bring flat shoes as Lisbon is extremely hilly. Hotel is on one of the hills just of the main street but the hill is extremely steep but there is a tram outside if case you are unable to make the walk. Staff were excellent and I would recommend to anyone who likes to treat them selves.10 out of 10

We got our room cancelled the very day we were supposed to check in, leaving me and my company totally stranded in the crazy busy high season! No compensation (well, they could spare us a room in mid September but this was mid August). This is so not how two run a business.

"A real gem in Lisbon"
04/26/15 Tris148 London, United Kingdom
We stayed in The Torel Palace to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have been happier with our choice! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by Beatriz who spent some time with us going through 'things to do' in the city as well as recommending restaurants. She then took us to our room which was amazing. It had amazing views over the city and was extremely comfortable. Throughout our stay the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. It has to be said, that the hotel is in the process of adding a new part to it so there is extensive building work occurring which I think has been raised in other reviews! From our perspective, it didn't impact us, as we were generally out before the work started and back after it had finished. I would say if you're planning to come and use the hotel to relax all day in, then perhaps it wouldn't be the best venue and it would be worth waiting until the work has been completed. With that in mind once the extension has been finished it'll be a fantastic addition to the hotel. One of the novel things about the hotel is you have to take a vertical tram to get there (or a lot of steps if you feel fit enough). We felt this really added to the uniqueness of the Torel Palace and of course enabled the amazing views it offered! The tram does finish at 8pm but after a few glasses of the lovely Portuguese wine, the trek back up the steps doesn't seem that bad! All in all, I feel this hotel ticks all the boxes...great staff, fantastic location, clean and comfortable rooms and great value for money. Lastly, a big thank you to Rodrigo for organising a special restaurant to celebrate our anniversary....it was a very memorable evening! We will definitely be back!!

"A splendid stay"

We were welcomed like dear friends and treated the same way all the way through our stay. The staff and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. The presence of the owners also really make the difference. The breakfast is delicious and our room the Royal Suite D. Amélia was amazing. Couldn't ask for anything extra. Just a longer stay perhaps. I huge thank you to all of the staff who made our days in Lisboa amazing!

"Lovely views and friendly, helpful staff"
02/25/15 Elizabeth M London, United Kingdom
Our first time in Lisbon so we booked the Torel Palace based on it's reviews. The staff were very helpful and friendly, both online and in person. The hotel itself was a little difficult to find initially though once we got our bearings it was easy. It's very close to the city centre, though on a steep hill so worth checking the times of the last elevator-tram or it's a hike to get back. We were offered a complimentary drink when we arrived and Beatriz gave us a city map and talked us through the sights. Our room (Ines de Castro Suite), was lovely with a very comfy bed and great views over the city. There was even a lemon tree outside the window.

"Lovely hotel, but unacceptable noise level at the room"
02/16/15 Ruta M Brussels
Upon arriving, we were greeted by friendly staff and offered a nice glass vinho werde. The hotel is perfectly located, few minutes walk from the city centre, but on a steep hill which provides for beautiful views. The absolute highlight was being able to have our breakfast outside at hotel terrace while admiring the beautiful panorama of Lisbon. Sorry to say we were disturbed by the constructions ongoing right next few meters away from our windows. As it was explained to us, this property would be eventually added to a hotel. The noise did not disturb us at first as we were out most of the time, but the fact that the works started at 8 in the morning on Saturday was really unacceptable. Really sorry to see that this boutique hotel, with an amazing staff and charming rooms, has not solved it's noise problem. The construction might be temporary, however the timings were not well-managed. Furthermore, Room 1 is located just outside the lobby with the reception desks, so at night one can hear the staff or returning guests. I would kindly suggest to the owners that the room should not be offered to guests, until the noise issues are solved.

"Fantastic hotel with an extremely friendly staff"

This was our 6th time in Lisbon and our best stay for sure. The hotel is extremely well located, the (young) staff is amazing, breakfast is delicious, rooms are spacious and cosy decorated. The city center is only a 5 minute walk away! Perfect location for a romantic weekend.

"An individual, boutique hotel with great service"
01/28/15 fabulouscake Skegness, United Kingdom
We stayed at Torel Palace in November and would not hesitate to return. It is a fabulous little place, each room has character and charm and the hotel owner has added little quirky details to give it individuality. There are great views over the city. Breakfast is very good with lots of choice and served until quite late in the morning, so if you are not an early riser it is fine. The most memorable thing about the hotel though is the staff, who are all so very helpful and thoughtful. Nothing is too much trouble. Most speak very good English and they are keen to impart local knowledge and give advice on where best to eat and what to see and how to get there. The hotel is in a lovely, private spot, so there is no issue with noise or privacy when you are using the facilities. The only drawback for some might be the approach, as it is perched on a very steep hill, and access means climbing over 200 steps! This might be an issue for those with a disability or health issues. There is a tram which runs most of the way up, but only at certain times and it does not run after 8pm in the evening. This being the only drawback, it is truly a gem of a hotel and well worth a visit.

"Beautiful little hotel, incredibly caring staff - a palace indeed!"
01/21/15 KilaueaKauai Kilauea, Hawaii
The Torel Palace is very well-named: the hotel is gorgeous inside and out, the views looking out over of the city are incredible, and the staff members care for you as if you are the owners of the palace. Although perched upon one of Lisbon's many hills, it's very conveniently located for roaming the city and for day trips by train or ferry to Sintra, Cascais, Almada, etc. (For those who may be concerned about the hilltop location: the nearby Elevador and inexpensive taxi rides make it easy.) Many thanks to Carla, Daniela, Beatriz, and the entire staff for their many kindnesses!

"Fabulous little boutique hotel !"
01/17/15 Postino158 Mont-sur-Rolle, Switzerland
This charming hotel is very well located with excellent service, beautiful and comfortable rooms, an amazing view of the city of Lisbon and an excellent breakfast. Admittedly somewhat difficult to find on arrival, but once installed the center of the city is easily accessible on foot, 5 minutes more or less. More than the charm of the place, what struck me most, was the staff. Everybody was so charming and always with beautiful little care with you. The owners of this place, should be proud of their team. I want to thank Carla, Patricia, Daniela, Miguel, Ricardo and the nice polish lady whose name I forgot, for their kindness and professionalism.

KUDOS to the owners and staff of the Torel Palace. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect spot to end our vacation. It definitely is a "hidden gem", and having sung its praises since our return, decided it was time to tell the world! If you want a truly special travel experience, book the Torel Palace. You won't be disappointed!

"Exquisite Service"
12/02/14 Paul8008 New Hope, Pennsylvania
We had the great pleasure to spend a week at the Torel Palace recently and from our beautiful, expansive and comfortable room to the generous, warm and welcoming staff, our visit was exceptional. Staying at the Palace is a little like staying in a very special tree house, perched high on one of Lisbon's hills overlooking the sea and town below. We felt both right in the center of activities yet quietly removed from the hustle and bustle below. Our room was the D. Amelia suite, which enjoyed sweeping views of Lisbon on two sides through sets of large balcony doors. Looking down, we could see the hotel's lovely terrace and pool. The room was beautifully furnished and we slept very well throughout our stay. This room has an expansive bath with large shower, double sinks and a large mirror. There is a coffee maker and a well stocked mini refrigerator. Like the rest of the hotel, our room was carefully decorated with great flair and an attention to detail with beautiful colors and furnishings. The room and common areas were immaculate. From the minute we arrived to the last moments of our departure, the staff and owner at Torel Palace had an unfailing focus on our needs and comfort. By e-mail before we arrived, I requested that a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of sparkling wine be placed in our room to mark a special occasion. Stepping into our room for the first time, we were greeted by a large bouquet of the most beautiful flowers, the promised bottle of sparkling wine and a gracious welcoming note. Before we arrived, we also requested information on tours focusing on Lisbon's modern architecture and Portugal's culinary traditions (including a cooking class.). Rather than steering us to a cookie cutter tour that was just an overview of the main buildings of the city or sending us to a standard group cooking demonstration, Torel Palace (thanks especially to Bruna Daniela and Beatriz) arranged to have Hello Tours & Culture create specialized private tours for us focused on our particular interests. These full day and half tours with Hello Tours were among the very best (perhaps the best in fact) we have ever taken. (In particular, the private hands on cooking class and food market tours with exceptional Portuguese cooks was an exquisite experience.) Because Torel Palace and Hello Tours share a common commitment to the customer, being on the tours was like an extension of the level of service we received at the hotel. Bravo! The hotel helped us in many other ways. They made excellent recommendations for restaurants and quickly secured reservations for us. Each place we went was exceptional. Thank you to Rodrigo and his colleagues for always steering us in the right direction. Breakfast was served in two rooms and we found the fresh fruit, yoghurt and coffee, among other things, a great way to start the day. Sometimes we chatted with other guests about their adventures. The warm and gracious co-owner Barbara was there in the mornings to greet us with a smile and to inquire after our comfort. In sum, Torel Palace is a wonderful choice for Lisbon and we would return without hesitation and with great anticipation. What sets Torel apart from other choices is its laser focus on personal service. Beautiful rooms and soaring views aside, it is Torel's very high level of warm, genuine and specialized attention to guests that makes it an exceptional place.
