"Beautiful hotel with stunning view of Lisbon"
Our experience at Torel was our most memorable. In addition to the perfect location situated on a hill with beautiful views of Lisbon, the team at Torel made us feel terrific. They gave us great recommendations for Dinner and Fado which night after night turned out to be very special and ones we would not have found out about in a guide book.

"Palaces above, but in the middle of, Lisbon"
A lovely hotel built out of two adjacent period houses sitting on a hill above the very centre of Lisbon. That centre is only a 5 minute stroll down (and 10 minutes up, unless you use the funicular that stops 50m from the hotel door). Rooms are smart, elegant and clean. The breakfast, in restaurant or terrace, is filling a delicious. The pool is small but perfectly situated on a quiet terrace. The staff, and there are lots of them, were kind, friendly and attentive. We will return.

"Made our stay that little more special"
As this stay in Lisbon was for my wife’s special Birthday, I wanted it all to be perfect, and so we were both hugely impressed upon arrival at the hotel, whereupon we were made to feel instantly welcome, and offered a glass of wine while we sat with Rodrigo (Manager), who kindly told us about the city, what to see/do, where to eat etc, before going to our room, which was just stunning. Our stay in Lisbon was amazing, and we managed to cram so much in, and were suitably tired at the end of each day, what with walking up and down the hills of the city in search of recommended restaurants and cafes, bars, and sights. Even though the hotel is at the top of a hill, luckily there is a funicular tram very close by, which is all part of the experience, but make sure you buy the 24 hour ticket (6 Euros) that lets you travel on all modes. The breakfast was superb, and we felt ready to take on the day after filling up on selection of breads, croissants, cake, fruit and yoghurt, all washed down with a nice English Breakfast tea. Rodrigo and the team were all very courteous, and were always asking if we needed any help finding anything on our excursions, and if we asked for a recommendation for somewhere to eat in a particular location, they were always on hand to provide excellent places. I cannot recommend this hotel and the team that work there highly enough, and were we ever to return to Lisbon this would be our first choice to stay at.

"Perfect stay"
Hotel was excellent is a great location with fantastic views of the city. Be warned and bring flat shoes as Lisbon is extremely hilly. Hotel is on one of the hills just of the main street but the hill is extremely steep but there is a tram outside if case you are unable to make the walk. Staff were excellent and I would recommend to anyone who likes to treat them selves.10 out of 10

Very nice outdoor area with a wonderful view, but the room we got was disappointing. The service was good, but a bit "too much" for our taste - like pretending to be more than they are.

"Great stay, will come back!!"
Beautiful hotel in central Lisbon, although a bit tricky to get to by foot, a steep stair. Service was great! We stayed in a suite, nr 8, amazing room and view. The thing they could improve is: the pool was too cold, I couldn't get in :)

We got our room cancelled the very day we were supposed to check in, leaving me and my company totally stranded in the crazy busy high season! No compensation (well, they could spare us a room in mid September but this was mid August). This is so not how two run a business.

"A home away from home, in Lisbon, on Torel hill, far from the heat of the city but close."
07/23/15 Catherine V London, United Kingdom
We were Five ladies in a hotel to visit Lisbon and we chose Torel Palace for its pool and apparent comfort. We felt very welcome and totally cared for by Mrs Ott's and Juao's careful attention to detail. This is their investment, creation and idea for the future. They have the right formula, as the two residences are a guarantee of non chain like comfort and lots of style. Apparently the former Pope, as Cardinal Ratzinger stayed here on his stay in Porto. The staff are friendly and quite eager, which is sometimes funny, other times lovely. The view is second to none. The pool is a welcome refreshing stop after an afternoon of sweltering sightseeing. To gain access to the city below you, you take the cable car, which is operated manually and is a great plus point if you don't want to make an effort in 37 degrees Celsius. Perfect breakfast if really slow (how long does it take to boil an egg?) and again very attentive staff. Fantastic facilities and delicious restaurant dinner on the terrace. The chef is gifted to say the least. Bravo. I had to leave at 5 am. It would be nice if I had the code to open the main gate, because I had to force the hydraulic gate myself. But then, I forgot to ask about this unknown factor.

"A touch of class"

Chose the Torel Palace for a 2 night stay following a week in Cascais. We found it easy to travel from Cascais using the train, metro and elevator to get there. Once we arrived ( a little early for the room) we were immediately greeted by the friendly concierge who took our bags and lead us to reception. Another member of staff then took us onto the terrace (overlooking the pool and the city) ordered us a complementary drink and chatted to us about our plans for our stay. she then gave us detailed information about Lisbon including places to visit, the important sights, restaurants and getting around on public transport. We were advised to get 1 or 2 day Viva viagem tickets which cover buses, trams and elevators. Advised there are bought at ticket machines at metro stations but the time limit only starts when you use it for the first time. A 1 day ticket costs 6 euros plus 50 cents to 'load' it. She also told us where the free elevator is which takes you up to Castle San Jorge. After this relaxed drink and chat we were told our bags were in our room which was now ready. We were in a standard room with city view. It was luxurious with an extremely comfortable bed. The best nights sleep in a hotel room ever! Breakfast was served in the dining room or outside and was full waiter service. Everything was fresh and delicious. Fruit, individually prepared yoghurt in a small glass, different sliced meats and cheeses, breads, fruit juice and a selection of teas or coffee. We were also offered eggs as well. Elevator do Lavra 2 minutes walk from the hotel takes you down to the lower level of the city with a further 2 minutes to Restauradores metro station or a 10 minutes stroll to the city centre for buses or trams to the various districts of Lisbon. After a days sightseeing it was very pleasant to return to the hotel and relax by the pool on a lounger with a refreshing drink. we had a wonderful time in Lisbon and especially at the Torel Palace Hotel. The location , it's views, it's luxurious rooms, it's breakfast were all superb but what made the stay extra special was the wonderful staff all of whom were efficient, attentive and helpful but more so were very friendly and made us feel like special guests.

"Fantastic hotel!"

Just returned home to Norway after a week at the Torel Palace. We loved the location giving fantastic views over Lisboa. The hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. We were welcomed by the friendly staff and given a detailed description of places of interest to visit in Lisboa, where to eat, the transport system and shown around the facilities in and around the hotel and its garden and pool. We loved the served breakfast, a welcome change from queues in buffet style hotels. During our stay we talked to the owners on several occasions, both extremely helpfull and as friendlyas their staff. I can thoroughly recommend the hotel to those looking for the intimacy and quality we experienced whilst staying there.

One of the best hotels I have been in. Received by a concierge who took our cases to our room. Receptionist took us to a terrace which over looked the city with a free drink and told us about the hotel and the layout of the city with tips on how to get around. Excellent room in the traditional Portuguese style for queens and kings! And the breakfast was served on the terrace very efficiently and was very good value for money. The staff were very helpful and attentive and really could not do enough for you So good we ended each night on the terrace with a drink! On the day we left we asked for our bags to be left with the concierge. On our return to collect them the concierge carried them to the nearby funicular about100 metres away. Now that's service! Highly recommended!!

Stayed here in the last week in May 2015. Beautiful boutique hotel with impecibly designed rooms, lovely views with onsite swimming pool. We stayed for three nights and had some lovely wine and tapas and of course delicious breakfast. Would highly recommend staying here. Close to city centre and metro but be careful of pickpockets in the centre.

In fact outstanding. I cannot rate our stay highly enough. Torel Palace is a real haven, just what we needed for several days rest and relaxation in top quality accommodation. Our room was in the older palace building, beautifully appointed with so many thoughtful touches - we could have stayed there for weeks! The pool and terrace has a gorgeous view, and I can only endorse other visitors' special comments about the staff, who were all so helpful, friendly and professional. The neighbourhood is pretty peaceful too which we appreciated. The fact that the Elevador da Lavra stops running at 8pm only means you may have to walk up the ~150 steps to help work off the delicious and extensive Torel breakfast!

We stayed at the Torel Palace on 15 June for 3 nights, we wanted somewhere a bit special to celebrate our and our friends wedding anniversaries. This certainly hit the mark, the views over Lisbon from the hotel were breathtaking, the rooms and facilities were brilliant but what makes this hotel extra special are the staff, they are so accommodating, they can't do enough for you and always with a smile on their faces. The owners of the hotel were very friendly too often stopping for a chat to ensure our stay with them was everything we wanted (even going so far as to offer an upgrade from our standard rooms, which in our opinions were lovely anyway). The restaurant on the premises is due to open soon (if not already) which will be a great addition to the hotel. If you want somewhere offering that extra something then this is the place for you, I cannot recommend it enough. We will return!

Stayed two nights with my other half in early June. The website really does not do this place justice! Tucked away on a hillside at the top of the Lavra Escalator, the views over the city are something special (even better when enjoyed with a huge G+T on the pool terrace) and the service could not have been better. We were met in the driveway by the concierge, the car was valet parked, check in was quick, the bags were in the room before we were. Every aspect of our stay exceeded expectations - the staff are helpful and friendly, the rooms are of a very high standard, the breakfast is delicious... but I think the bar overlooking the pool with those G+Ts would be my highlight! Do not be put off by the location - you can be down the hill and into the city in under 10 minutes, and even if the escalator is not running by the time you need to walk home, the hill is very manageable for anyone of even below average fitness! All things considered I would struggle to justify staying anywhere else on our return visit to Lisbon! 10/10.

"A four star Bed and Breakfast overlooking Lisbon"
06/27/15 TommyBars Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
A very very nice plan to land when visiting Lisbon. Understand: it is marked as a B and B and that is what it is…if you like B and B’s this is a place for you. It is at the top of a hill with amazing views of Lisbon from the pool and garden areas. The view from our room was also great; you couldn’t see it from the bed but could from the small balcony. The floors are wide plank, the furniture very nice but rustic. The shower and toilet are separated by a curtain from the vanity. Great shower and vanity area. The reason to stay there is the pool and the outdoor areas… there are lots of outdoor “rooms” and they all have either great plantings or a great view. The pool is wonderful --- sit in a lounge chair by it after a dip and read a book while overlooking the city. We were served a modified breakfast because we had an early flight… but the staff was happy to do so and it was tasty. Fun part: there is a funicular trolley that takes you up to the level on the hill where the Torel is located and back down… it is one of the municipal trolleys, and is included in the transit pass if you buy one….if not the trolley driver will sell you two trip ticket for I think it was 3.80 roundtrip. You can easily walk down via the stairs next to the trolley tracks, it’s a little steep and probably slippery in the rain. I would suggest taking the trolley back up! Make sure to have the address available for the taxi drivers… they don’t seem to know the Torel Place yet (it is fairly new). The staff was great and the owner is there all the time to make sure you are enjoying yourself…. Would I return? If the season was right for using the pool and gardens? In an instant!

"When in Lisbon this is the place to stay"
06/26/15 Michael B Lytham St Annes, England, United Kingdom
We had an excellent room on the top floor with great views of the city. The room and the facilities were all excellent but most importantly the staff are superb. Nothing was too much trouble. They were most helpful in helping us choose bars and restaurants. The location is a bit out of the centre but taxis are cheap and plentiful, there is an interesting elevator right next to the hotel which takes you into the city centre. The only thing I will advise visitors to do is make sure they get directions to the hotel in advance - taxi drivers do not know where it is!
