We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It was clean and comfortable. Free wifi (good connection too), free filtered water, free tea, friendly staff, good pressured showers. It is pretty close to a train station and convenient store, but the neighborhood doesn't offer too much otherwise.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Whether I am backpacking or not, anytime I travel to Tokyo, Hotel New Koyo will be where I stay. The staff here go above and beyond when helping out those of us staying here. Small single rooms with tatami's make for an extremely cozy stay. Strong air conditioning for the summer and warm enough for winter. The bathroom is communal and cleanliness is at 100%. Showers are located outside of the room and are for singles only with an extremely powerful shower head that makes it difficult to want to get out. There are respected shared-refrigerators and a kitchen cooking area that's very functional with tea dispensers. Location is great for those that want to feel like they are living like locals. This is preferred for me Vs. being in the center of all the jazz/traffic/noise.
"Cheap, but inconvenient"

MinamiSenju isn't the most convenient place in Tokyo, but is home of many cheap hotels. Hotel staff are friendly but don't speak English. The room is small and the aircon is centrall controlled, NOT per room.

I had a good stay in Hotel New Koyo. Room is clean and quite cheap. Staff can speak perfect English and very helpful.

we stayed for 11 nights, on a tatami room. Two adults and a 7 yo kid. As expected the room is a tight squeeze but we managed. The walls are thin and you can hear people talk on the corridors. Reaching the place is quite tricky the first time. Just put to mind that there are 2 stations in Minami-senju. A metro / hibiya line and JR Joban line. It is easier to access the hotel via the subway south exit and a few minutes walk further if you come via JR. For those who would rather not walk, there is a bus stop near 711 that goes to Minami-senju station. The showers are clean although it is lacking. We just try to shower on non-peak hours. Bath soap and shampoo included. There is a decent coin operated laundry and cooking facilities (with a coin operated stove as well). There is a 711 nearby as well as a supermarket. For those who run, there is a great running park along Sumida river. Just head east from the 711 along Meiji Dori until you reach the river. Front desk staff are very nice and helpful and they could speak and understand english quite well. Your stay's quality depends on the other guests though. Since most of the facilities are shared, one must be always considerate of other guests. We would be staying there when we return to Tokyo. Turned out 11 days was not enough for us.
"old, dirty, noisy, you name it!!"

it's quite a dirty old building. people on the 2nd floor are noisy, don't expect a good night sleep. the whole building only has three showers. i waited for more than 10 minutes for the shower. look else where. not recommended.

The rates are affordable considering it's in Tokyo. However, it's quite far from city centre and almost 15 minutes walk to the train station. The rooms do not have air-conditioning, so it can get a bit stuffy if you do not open the window. The room is also quite narrow. WiFi is free.
"Onenight only....or rather no night"

I spent here a night as accommodation fell through somewhere else so it was a last-minute solution, organized by the people of the otherwise very nice Hotel Meigetsu. I know Japan, the size of rooms, and that it's a cheap hotel, but the room is really liek a prison cell, the linen was dirty. I slept very bad, trying not to touch the pillow - though usually i can sleep anywhere. The staff is nice though, not their fault i guess, but if you have other choices, go somewhere else!

Stayed here for a week. The room was clean and had ample heating which was a welcome respite from the cold autumn weather. It had a flat screen tv unfortunately, all the channels are in japanese. The futon and comforter was old but clean and comfortable. The shower cubicles are always cleaned, shampoos and liquid soap were provided. Although it would take some time for the water to warm up upon opening the shower. The toilets were always cleaned as well but in dire need of a paint job, same with the kitchen and the room. There was always a steady supply of hot and cold water and green tea. There are combinis nearby like 7-11 and just a short walk to the train station. The area is safe. I usually leave early in the morning and return late at night and not once did i feel unsafe. For the price, it's already a great deal especially in Tokyo.

Overall, this is one of the best value hotels in Tokyo. Getting your own room is very affordable and the rooms aren't bad. They contain lockers and a mat on the floor for sleeping. It's basically just a decent budget hotel that contains all the basic essentials that you need. Not the greatest environment for meeting people, and the location is not spectacular (although transit is amazing anyway). Nonetheless, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I was traveling to Tokyo on a budget.

It ain't the Hilton. But it's cheap, clean, friendly, and accessible to whatever you might want to see in Tokyo. Nice bar around the corner (Cafe Tepui), vending machines for drinks, free internet, nothing to complain about, as long as you don't need every comfort.
