"Happy as it was as expected"
If you are looking for a cheap convenient place to stay and are OK with shared bath and dorm room conditions, then consider this place. Great value. Just don't expect a hotel! No TV in room if that is important to you for example. Room doors are tight so it is almost impossible to close them quietly so you may be woken up (and you might wake up your […] neighbors). $17 charge or so if you check out after 10am. Baggage storage in basement on check out day, but have the $2 canadian coin handy to feed the storage locker! Bring your own shampoo, tho soap and towel are provided. Great location. Old college dorm, floor of room needs to be scrubbed. Price was low, but parking was a bit troublesome. Their garage was full, had to scramble to find overnight street spots, then pay for day parking at a private lot. Staff was very personable. Got a city tour pass at hotel for 30$ that sold at the bus for 39$. Continental breakfast […] included was good. Wifi only in cafe and 22nd floor lounge. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It is what it is"
I've stayed here for years but the past few I've noticed the building has really gone downhill The main issue was cleanliness-it was filthy Bathrooms never cleaned...moldy Hallway rugs disgusting Sheets and towels were filled with stains and hair Other than that-for the price don't expect luxuryGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, great price"
Can't beat this deal. Nice rooms. Perfect if you don't mind sharing restrooms with other guests. It appeared that there were university students living there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
You get what you pay for. Still, overall it was not bad at all. Looks kind of beat up, but my bed was clean, room was clean, showers were ok. Free breakfast was decent. Location was really convenient, which was great for somebody who just wants to walk around downtown Toronto alot.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Sleep Cheap in Toronto"
The Neill-Wycik is a college residence, with a difference. It is run as a cooperative by the students, and from May to August they open it as a hostel. The variously-sized rooms and suites are arranged in pods or corridors of six rooms each with two small but private bathrooms. Ours was just across the hall and we had to wait for it only once in four […] days. If that had been a problem, there was another five or six steps away. The rooms are not air-conditioned, but each has a table fan which, with the fully opened windows, kept the room comfortable. On the top floor is an air-conditioned TV and computer lounge, with strong wi-fi connections and a snack bar which served various foods. They will pack a full or half bag lunch for guests at very reasonable prices. Breakfast (included) in the first-floor cafe consisted of cereals, beverages (apple, orange and cranberry juices-not just juice drinks), teas or coffee, pastries (muffins, croissants etc,) which are baked in-house , yogurt, fresh fruit and granola bars. (Choice of four items with each breakfast), They serve till 11 am and will pack up your choices for lunch later. The front desk is staffed 24-/7 and was quick to bring extra towels or soap, as well as to take care of any complaints. located a five-minute walk between two streetcar lines, the Neill-Wycik was a real find. Would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Good location - walking distance to shops, train and city bikes, nice view. Good service - checked in early, staff were friendly but all seemed to be students so occasionally got distracted from customers with socialising. Poor room cleanliness - floor was dirty/dusty, bed had someone else's hairs on it. Poor beds - in a two single bed room one was […] a cheap mattress, the other a springy, lumpy foldout/camp bed. Adequate amenities - shared bathrooms as expected, but faucet handles coming off in one's hand, a door that stuck shut, taps that couldn't be turned off completely, ratty old towels provided. There is a shared kitchen too, but no utensils or supplies are provided. Good breakfast - free breakfast was limited in the amount you could have, but the options were reasonable. "Great for price"
Can't complain much for such a great deal in Toronto. Floors could use a good mopping and it would've been nice to have Wifi in the room instead of just in the lounge and cafeteria. But bed was clean, continental breakfast was better than expected, and staff was great. They also have lockers for your luggage where I could lock up my suitcase after checkout […] for the whole day until my flight that night. Highly recommend if you just need a place to crash for a night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It looked newer in the pictures. Old building, cleanliness of the bed was questionable, had to ask housekeeping to change the sheets. Staff is nice, and breakfast is ok. It's pretty close to downtown, so that's a big advantage, but the neighbourhood is slightly weird.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Amazing roof deck, close to attractions"
Rooms at Neill-Wycik are very basic but have everything you need. Staff at breakfast were very helpful. Roof deck views are beautiful and something to see. Only about five mins to Dundas and the Eaton Centre. Would stay again :)Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Location & fantastic staff."
I stayed for 3 nights. I loved this hotel for the value of money I spent & will definitely stay there again. The only negative part is that shared washroom is not very clean & seems not hygienic. Hope hotel can work on it to make it a perfect place for backpackers.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very near to Downtown, no need to pay for public transport as most places are within walking distance. Generous breakfast included with stay. Friendly, helpful staff. All at a very reasonable price!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This hotel is very well located. The building and furnitures are very old and might have need maintnance over the years but it is however very clean.

"Could have been cleaner"
08/20/14 travelingmom54 Kingsport, Tennessee
The location and the price were excellent. We had two groups of 5 people and the group across the hall ended up with bedbugs in two of their 5 rooms. They had to change to another floor, but most of them said their new rooms were nicer. When the hotel has a bedbug inspector on staff it does not make you feel very comfortable. I was glad when our suite of rooms was given the all clear. I was glad I had brought my own pillow as the pillow they provided was random lumps of foam in a pillow case. The bed was reasonably comfortable, but I went knowing it was a dorm and not a hotel. The rooms were very quiet except for street noise and with the window closed that was not too bad. The floor in my room was dirty and even after asking for it to be washed it was not. There was black mold in the bathrooms. Yuck. No air conditioning unless you pay extra and if you are with a group and want to stay in the same suite that is not an option. Glad I had read some of the reviews and packed a fan. I was on the 21st floor facing the lake so there was a nice view of the city. Being only one floor down from the lounge with the free Wi-Fi was good as most of the time I could still access the Wi-Fi without having to go upstairs. Breakfast was okay, but I don't know that they ever wiped the tables in the six days that we were there. When we asked for the volume on the television to be turned down they were very accommodating. Parking is 10 dollars a night extra and very limited. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Check in was very slow but they were helpful with any questions we had and gave suggestions of restaurants and grocery stores. If it had not been for the moderate to low level of cleanliness and the bed bugs, I would have given it a much better rating as the price and location were great.
"Disgusting rooms and bathroom"
I stayed here for 3 nights while I visited Toronto with my boyfriend (whom I shared a room with) and his family, we arived at 11pm and asked us all for ID, bare in mind we consisted of two 16 year olds, and 11 year old and a 40 year old, it took us forever to check in and ended up completely separated, my boyfriend and I on the 16th floor and his mother and sister on the 21st floor, even though we had requested rooms close to each other. When we arrived in our room (a "twin" room with a bed and a campbed shoved in the corner) we noticed that the floor was completely filthy with brown stains all over it, there was no closet and only 3 coat hangers and a chair, the top sheets were old and completely tattered with threads hanging off everywhere. The window was thick with dust and grime and was nearly impossible to see out of, underneath the beds there were dust balls, peanut shells, gumballs and the odd mouse dropping. Some pleasant individual decided to smoke marijuana in one of the shared bathrooms at night so the whole block stank, no one seemed to do anything about this. The bathrooms themselves were disgusting and dingy, the one opposite our room was very dark so we only used it for the toilet and sink, but the far bathroom was worse, there was long brown hairs EVERYWHERE, even on the walls. The shower never stayed at the temperature you put it at, it went freezing cold or boiling hot most of the time and only stayed warm for about 30 seconds. The shower drain was blocked so there was filthy water that everyone else had been using swirling around my ankles, there was black mould on the walls. There was one shared kitchen on each block, in ours everyone just left their mess and never cleaned up after themselves. There was also a dead mouse which was left there for the whole of our stay which was very disgusting. Breakfast was the only thing that saved the stay, there was a good variety of food which was quite tasty but there could have been more. Overall it was too pricey at $550 for 3 nights and obviously was poorly looked after, avoid at all costs.
"An ok place to stay for a week, but a month is pushing it"
08/04/14 danschaumann Toronto, Canada
I was in need of a room in Toronto at the last minute for around 3 weeks. Neill-Wycik offered me their $660 monthly rate. It was an ok place to stay for that period of time. Given that the nightly rate worked out to be $22, it was quite affordable. My room on the 14th floor was quite small, with a single (uncomfortable) bed, a desk and an open wardrobe. There were around 10 or 12 rooms in our little section of the building that shared the kitchen, two bathrooms and two washrooms. Most people I roomed with were young backpackers, and as such had little concept of cleanliness in the bathrooms or kitchen - it was a bit of a downer to my stay there. I paid for in-room wifi for a month, which I recall was around $17 and worked very well. There is a coin laundry on the 22nd floor ($1.50 per wash / $1 per dry) as well as a room where you can access free wifi. Security is quite adamant that you show your key when you walk into the building - I got chased down the hall a few times when I forgot to do that (which I thought was a good thing cause it means less chance for unwelcome outsiders to get in). The area the hotel is located is pretty dodgy. Lots of panhandlers and generally creepy looking characters on the streets outside. Most nights from my bedroom window I could hear a fair amount of shouting and general commotion going on outside. You'll be fine to stay here for a few days to a week, but I was over it after two weeks. 3+ weeks would have been too much.
"Ideal for a night or two if you're on a budget, right by Dundas Square"
08/03/14 JaneDelfino Montreal, Canada
Ok so I read a lot of comments that could've made me rethink my choice but we were on a budget, we only need a place to spend one night and we needed to be downtown Toronto. It turned out to be perfect. Nothing luxurious, it's a dorm! You get a coupon for free breakfast (you can pick 4 items of the choices offered: bagel, croissant, yogurt, juice, milk etc. fair amount of choices) and I got the parking for 10$ a night, which turned out to be perfect as well since we walked around and didn't need the car. One negative point: I did find a hair that wasn't mine on the bed in my room (there was two twin beds and not much space to walk around) but you can ask for clean linen at the front desk and they'll give them to you no problem. Bring your own towels and since they offer shared bathrooms, bring flip flops to take your shower (tub isn't super clean) You can also go to the 22nd floor there's a terrace and a barbecue, with a nice view of the city. If you can afford a hotel, good for you - if you're on a budget, and only staying a couple nights, this one is just as fine!

"Dirty and with rats"

The worst experience of my life. The place is very dirty. I had a reservation for one month, but I stayed for few days. I gave up staying there when I saw a rat inside my room. I Wish I had never been there...
"Very, Very Budget but breakfast is good.... Bring a fan too!"
07/16/14 Coley82 Chelmsford, United Kingdom
I had 2 days in Toronto after a lovely trip to Vancouver so I booked some budget accomodation to save a few pennies. When I arrived the staff were very informative (if a bit militant) and they gave me details of my room/breakfast/wi-fi etc. The rooms itself was very small, a hard bed and a pillow which was about as soft as a breeze block. The bathrooms were basic but clean. I was impresssed with the breakfast and a choice of 4 items from cereals, yoghurts, croissants etc. which is why I have given this an 'average' rating.
07/05/14 Tiffany H Purcellville, Virginia
I wouldn't stay there again. I stayed in the 22nd floor and the A/C didn't worked and it was really really hot in the room. Also my bed wasn't really clean there were hairs on my pillow and I didn't feel comfortable with that. What i can say is that the breakfast is pretty good and I liked it that the reception is 24h open :) Also the location was pretty good :)
07/04/14 arq16 Montreal, Canada
stayed there for 3 nights during world pride (late June). The location is really central. its only a 5 minute walk to the gay village, and 10 minute walk to Dundas square (the main square in Toronto). The room itself was high up on the 16th floor, with excellent views of downtown! The room itself was very average. Nothing to rave about. But I didn't expect too much. We stayed in a two bed room with shared bathroom. The bathrooms was in ok condition. The hallways were a little dirty. You get a free breakfast, and have a choice of 4 options for breakfast (the options include coffee). so chose right so you don't get hungry again quickly! lol. I chose 2 bagels, yogurt and coffee, and this lasted me until lunch. Bit pricey at $40/bed though. Staff were nice and friendly (some of them were easy on the eye...). Would stay here again. Best thing about it is the location and free breakfast!
07/03/14 Sparefroh2 Graz, Austria
The location is excellent but the whole building is a little run down. It's a student residence and no hotel. Cleanliness could be better. WiFi only free on 22nd floor, otherwise it's 4 CAD per day or 10 CAD per week. Breakfast is ok, but you can only select 4 items (e.g., coffee, bagel, cornflakes, banana)
