A nice hotel in part of Zurich that was new to me. Some distance from the city center but easy to reach by tram. The hotel had very good service and a very friendly staff, the dinner in their restaurant was delicious. I would use this hotel again.

Never […] again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Comfort and affordable for Zurich standard"

stayed here one night after arrived from Milan by train. it took 10 tram stops from the hotel to Zurich HB at which the train going to the airport departs every 15 - 30 minutes. at USD 130 per night, the room has all the standard 3-star facilities along with a buffet breakfast. the only downside is the room has no air con, but coming from a tropical country, I didn't find it hot at my room even it was summer when I stayed here. next to the lobby is Coop minimarket where you can buy all the grocery things you need and they also sell a variety of swiss made chocolate at (sometimes) discounted price. if you want to skip the breakfast, right in front of the spirgarten there are food stalls selling sandwiches, croissant and coffes.
"Noisy and hot"
Firstly I cannot fault the friendly staff and the location of the hotel. Very easy to find and a short walk to the train station which is just two stops from the centre of Zurich. The downsides are, however, a very soft bed, expensive breakfast (15SFR per person - we didn't try it as there were four of us!), no kettle in the bedroom, but worst of all the clock tower bell which rings every fifteen minutes from 7am til midnight - not great for a decent sleep!

I booked into the hotel in a nice summer week and I truly enjoy my stay everyday. 1st of all, the hotel had perfect location. It is just opposite my office (for my biz trip part) and only 2 train stops away from the Zurich HB. Decoration wise, the room is painted with a mixture of white and bright red paint, making it very Swiss. The outside has a soft orange tone. This creates a warm and uplifting environment. Spirgarten's room is fixed with all the modern amenities: Nespresso machine, automated sky deck windows and blinds, minibar filled with varieties of drinks --free-of-charge! Bed is comfortable, lighting is sufficient and can be conveniently controlled, TV with bunch of local and international channels, power sockets conveniently located around the room, and good toilet amenities. The staff are all very jovial, can't stop to give you surprises daily and are very friendly to guide you in everything. The only downside of the hotel is the noisiness of Badernastrasse. Trams and cars sped along the road all day and your sleep can be affected. Make sure you try to look for room away from the road. Overall, I've a good experience and will definitely come back.

My friend and I stayed here Tuesday and Wednesday evening 12/13 August 2014. Purpose of stay was to watch family compete in the European Championships being held at the Stadium in Zurich. The hotel was very basic but clean, the bedroom we had was right at the top of the hotel and had a sloping ceiling with only a skylight for light and a very tiny window for ventilation. It was very hot and stuffy as there was no air conditioning and our only mode of cooling was a fan. Our room was quite close to the road and the noise from the Trams was very noticeable as was the chiming of the clock in close proximity. Bed was very comfy though which is a major point for me and the bathroom was clean with a good shower but the light was on a timer and if you spent too long in the shower the light went out which was not very helpful. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which is expected nowadays in most good hotels although water was provided on day one free of charge. If you have not experienced Switzerland before you will not know that they do not do milk for pouring on your cereal. Yogurt is poured on instead and there is no milk for tea either, just little milk jiggers with creamer in them so tea is an acquired taste!. The coffee is very strong The staff were very friendly and helpful and managed to conjure up a cup of tea for me when I returned from the Stadium freezing cold. This was free but I had to pay for two bottles of water????? There was nowhere inside to sit and enjoy a drink. The hotel had a reasonably sized seating area just outside the restaurant which was OK if it was not raining. The bar seemed to be in Reception which I found a bit strange. If all you want is somewhere to lay your head to sleep then this hotel will be fine but it is really basic. I would rate it along the lines of a Premier Inn in England, Cost about the same too for one night but you do get breakfast thrown in which you don't in a Premier.

When arriving to this hotel, the 'entrance' is not clearly visible and I ended up walking around the building once, until I noticed where to enter. When trying to check in, I had to wait 30minutes to be seen as there was only 1 member of staff on reception. The room is very nice, clean and modern although extremely small! The smallest room I have ever stayed in with a single bed. The TV is located in a very awkward place, but as the room is so small, I can understand why it is there. Stayed for 2 nights and both nights I did not sleep well. I had no air conditioning, just an annoying fan. The church bells ring every 15minutes (very loud) which is located next door to the hotel. Also, the phone in my room was flashing green every second, lighting up the room. On a positive note, the stay was pleasant and the restaurant evening food was incredible. Although the breakfast was very boring and not much variety. No hot breakfast offered.
"A Decent Place to Stay"

My wife and I stayed here in late May for a night on our way west. It is situated above a square along a major street in Zurich, so beware of traffic and pedestrian noise if you choose to leave the window open. Our room faced onto the square, and while there were a few folks outside talking or dogs barking, that stopped later in the evening. The room was small and clean, with a handicapped washroom. Unfortunately there is no air conditioning at this hotel, but it cooled off at night and we were able to open the window. Thankfully there was no noise from the square below. The hotel has no parking, so we had to obtain a pass for the public parkade behind the hotel at a cost of 15 francs. Breakfast was supposed to be included as per our booking, but the front desk person stated otherwise, so we passed on same.
"Not bad for the price and location"

Stayed with my family and we enjoy our stay. Will definitely stay again if go back to Zurich. Parking was next to the hotel and was not too expensive, 48hours restaurant is located at the main entrance, the breakfast was OK, the buffet dinner is ok for adults not a good selection for kids. there a supermarket right next to the hotel and the Piazza have vendors, we stay there during a weekend, they have a market on Saturday mornings. The train station is 1 minute away walking and 15 minutes ride to downtown Zurick.
"Conveniently located in Zürich Altstetten"

Spirgarten has tradition. It's well know to every Zürcher and most large companies have celebrated Christmas there sometime. The hotel has been renovated in the past years, room furniture however is still the same. Rooms are small but functional with large windows overlooking the square. My favourite rooms are the ones to the back with a view towards the church. I'd say for the price it's certainly a good value. You can enjoy their 8048 restaurant and bar overlooking the square, step right into the next tram taking you to downtown Zurich in a few minutes and reach many major companies close by or again downtown in the city.

I had a good stay. Friendly stuff @ reception and restaurant. Pricing is... ok for zurich. My tatar was delicious. Next time I'll try out the burger! The breakfast is my special tip. So I really had a good start that morning. See you soon.

Zurich and Switzerland in general is not really known for reasonably priced Hotels at a good standard. This one here is a typical example of such standard Swiss Hotels. With its origin in somewhat the 70ies and some renovations here and there it preserved the typical look of this time. I only got a "Standard Single Room" which turned out to be a approx. 9 sqm chamber with a quite big bed. Opening the door, you're already in the bed. The floor is Laminat which is a lot better than a smelly carpet but still noisy. The other equipment of the room looked a bit eclicistic and worn. The bed is def too soft. The curtains don't fully darken the room. The window was pointing to a parking lot with some noise at night and in the morning. The window had to be opened as the room was pretty sticky and hot. Turnning down the heating was not possible... A small bathroom with a shower with marvel-look-alike tiles. It is functional, it is clean but with low ceilings a bit clumsy. The breakfast in the Hotel restaurant was ok but nothing special (was included in the price). The staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall it is a seminar location which doesn't make the place very cosy. So what now? In summary you can say, it is ok to stay there, clean, well located, etc. but... the price of € 200 for one night incl parking is ridiculous! Even with Zurich being expensive this is far beyond anything! Max price could be around €100 - 120 incl parking. If there is nothing else left, this Hotel is ok. If you have the choice, go somewhere else.
