"large room, nice view, nice people."
I suspect every room is different in this small older hotel that has been added on to. My room was very large, beautiful view of mountains and city (could see San Jose soccer stadium). There was a surprising large amount of wood grain storage cabinets. The room had a couple of areas with water damage. Does not have big sign, but is next door to "Fight […] Club". Nobody there spoke much English. I am returning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Possibly a hidden gem"
Off the hidden path and could be considered a hidden gem. Although not luxurious the place is clean and maintained. Joaquin runs the place and is very pleasant. Place is quiet and safe. Plan on returning there soon.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good value for money for a friendly home in SJO"
I greatly appreciated the large room, comfortable bed, general cleanliness, although some fixtures, door knobs and other details seem worn and require repair or replacement. A working desk in the room would also have been appreciated. Staff was very helpful and friendly, and the house cook prepared a daily complementary and satisfying breakfast (scrambled […] eggs, toast, coffee and juice) as well as an excellent paella with all the trimmings for a family luncheon that at my request was organized in the premises, at a very reasonable price. The setting in the hilly area between Escazu and Santa Ana, Alto de las Palomas, has lovely views and cool weather, particularly at night, and is easily accessible to the International Airport. I would definitely stay here again on future trips to San Jose. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel a little far from the airport"
The hotel was hard to find. Once there the staff was welcoming and very friendly. They treat you like family and take time to make you feel at home. We stayed during the windy season and the wind was a bit loud. The food at their restaurant is good and the chef comes out to socialize, fun character. I enjoyed the stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hard to find but worth doing so"
Great value and courteous staff. Shower not running properly and told would be repaired soon. Comfortable, clean, close to highways but in quiet area.no signage, so use your gps or don't bother trying. Decent restaurant with Spanish continental specialties.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Long stay in Costa Rica"
We needed a hotel near San Jose to stay for few days to move around and visit family/friends. The location of Sueno Espanol was perfect. Near the hotel you can find all the things you need (supermarket, bars, restaurants, shops). It's a nice quiet area also which is important to relax.Genuine Expedia guest review

Very poor instalations, a lot of noise, no sense of customer services and very dirty room. I was very disappointed. The TV in the room did not work, and the restaurant is in poor shape. It is probably better for this hotel to go out of business
"Fake Hotel, terrible management."
05/25/14 Todd R Grayton Beach, Florida
Don Joaquin, at the restaurant, was a very nice person and went out on his ways to be welcoming with us. The hotel was in need of renovation and maintenance. Probably because of low season, almost there was no staff in the hotel. The second afternoon, I finally met a receptionist for the first time. My room wasn't arranged/cleaned during my two nights stay. Lacked toilet paper and shampoo in the room. The room was very big and the bed comfortable. The real problem of this hotel is management: the owner should finally learn how to listen to his guests. During low season they charge $ 32 per night per room. Buy the room on line or claim this rating at the reception.

"This place is a joke and needs to go quietly out of business!!!"
03/21/14 Garth K San Jose, Costa Rica
I selected this place because it was supposedly near the airport and offered airport shuttle Advertised as providing "airport shuttle." No shuttle was offered when I called nor when I requested a return one for the next morning. They said what "airport shuttle" meant was "they could call you a taxi." I ended up having to pay RT taxi to airport. The restaurant was closed and looked scary. No food offered. The shower in our room has only a tiny trickle of water. No hot water. I have traveled extensively all over the Americas and this is the worst value I have ever stayed in. NOT near the airport at all!! Absolutely not worth it. Have had better service/facilities at 25/night hostels. This place is a joke!
The rooms are in bad shape..faked walls, noise, broken ceiling, the Tv does not work, silverware is dirty, no tea at breakfast, the hotel is almost abandoned by the owners, whatever presented is definitely not what you get. Its disappointing...
"Dirty, Dirty, Dirty"
02/20/14 KerenElise Monroe, North Carolina
This hotel was DIRTY. There were tiny white things all over the couch that we had to inspect and see if they were bugs (not sure BTW). The shower has black gunk coming off in pieces on the floor, and there were buildups of mold in the corners of the shower, around the sink handles, etc. I showered with my sandals on, and wouldn't let my kids sit on the toilets here. It was that bad. The mattresses were super thin and we woke up with back and neck aches. This was one of the dirtiest hotels I have ever stayed in. When we arrived, they were charging me double for 4 people instead of 2 (even though that was not on my confirmation) until I fought it because the other two people were 4 and 2 years old. Then they gave me a room that was cheaper than what I had payed for, until I said something. Then we were given the right room, but the sliding glass doors didn't lock. When I said something, they said that it was no big deal, and the area was safe. When they could see I was not happy, they jerry-rigged it for me. The only staff member we saw was very nice and did go out of his way to help us as I pointed out issues. I gave this hotel two stars because the staff was polite, and it wasn't a crack hotel. Other than that, I would never stay here again. We were concerned we had bed bugs or lice when we left the next day. No bueno.
"Nice big room with wide and firm beds"
01/05/14 Maguder D Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
I liked this hotel. But the location was not very nice. =no shops at all in 1.3km. There is no fridge in any room. I don't think one should pay this much money for this bad location. But if you want to stay around this property for a while= like we did stay for a week. And if you could get special offer like we got by just telephone call I can recommend this hotel 100%! ( I am sorry to say this but this hotel has no much guests because of bad location. but rooms are very good. So for those who has car or a special interest in this zone. this hotel is very very good option.)
"Great Place to Stay"

Although we did have a little trouble finding this hotel, we really enjoyed it once we arrived. The family run hotel is an asset as the atmosphere is very welcoming. We enjoyed the decor and the comfort of our room was lovely. We had the opportunity to enjoy a delicious family style Spanish meal to our delight!
"Neat hotel with warm and familiar atmosphere"
04/01/13 K W
It is a rather small hotel. Tidy, but probably not the most luxerious. Nevertheless, this is exactly why it conveys such a familiar atmosphere. Since the staff isalways very courteous I felt quite comfortable and cared for. Unfortunately most of them are not fluent in any other language than Spanish. However, they are very patient and will make sure that your wishes are understood. Since there is no pool, tennis court, amusement show or the like the hotel is not suitable for an adventure or wellness holiday. The quietude, however, allows sleep at night (although the view from the balcony down into the city is almost too beautiful to sleep) and concentration for business travellers and bookworms. For those who need a little more action: a trip to the city takes about 15 minutes. The hotel has parking spaces of course and a bus stop near by. In case you do not know what to do in San Jose, just ask the receptionist and she will give you lots of interesting information.

We were only able to spend three wonderful days, the German owner was constantly looking after us. My wife and I will definitely return as the views from the large bath tubs were beautiful.
