Quiet location conveniently located off the killington acces road two to three minutes by car to the ski lifts. The morning breakfast was made to order excellently prepared and served hot. The wait staff in the restaurant was friendly and made you feel at home. The only less than perfect thing about this hotel was that it needed some renovation, it just looked a bit worn.

Had a great stay for the weekend. Jim was wonderful and a great person. He's making steady improvements to the inn, so every year the place gets better. This is good to know because the shower head in our bathroom and one of the mattresses in our room needed some updating (rm 101). I'm very picky when it comes to mattresses, so I bring my own air mattress which I ended up using. It's an older property in the middle of the mountains, so you have to have some perspective. The breakfast is outstanding and everyone is very nice. I would stay again and feel like I got a good value here. Looking forward to returning next year and seeing the improvements!

The Butternut Inn and Pancake House was the perfect place for our family ski weekend. Jim, the owner, was welcoming and incredibly helpful. The location is great if you are skiing at Killington (<10 min away) and the hotel is clean and comfortable. Breakfast (which is included in the room price) is delicious and even though the building is older, Jim is making constant improvements and renovations.

This location was randomly selected on a trip through New England in the fall. A delightful diversion from the regular hotel set up. Best of all was the breakfast - not only several types of pancakes to choose from but had option to include eggs and other breakfast items. All included with stay. Best breakfast by far of a 5 day trip.

I chose this place because it was the cheapest option on hotels.com, but was very pleasantly surprised with the accommodations. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was very friendly. The big kicker here is the breakfast- really top notch pancakes included in the room rate. It is a small, warm place that I would recommend to anyone.

Everything was fine. Neat, clean, modern. Breakfast was great and ample, service was friendly. Only concern is that it wasn't busy when we were there, but I think the walls and floors are probably a bit thin. Easy to hear people in the neighboring room. Convenient location to the mountain.

The stay at the Inn was a good one. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was good and filling. Having a refrigerator in the room was very convenient. There was plenty of space to hang up wet clothes after riding the mountain all day. My only complaint is that the room that I stayed in was way to warm! I turned the baseboard heat all the way off. I ended up sleeping with the window open one night.

Was pleasantly suprised! Can't say enough about the staff, very hospitable and accomodating. In this day and age where customer service is held at a premium, they delivered in spades. The location is right where you want to be not far from anything including killington. Oh, and the rooms were very neat, comfortable and clean. Would definitely return!

The room looked cute enough when we walked in, but soon we found that there was very little water coming out of the shower head and no hot water at all. There were also used shampoo bottles left and no new toiletries supplied. When I went downstairs to inquire about this, no one was around in fact no one was around to check us in nor the other 4 rooms and it wasn't late at all (5:30pm). There was a message left that the front saying that JIm was near by and to call a number, but that number was to the phone next to the note and no Jim every appeared. Jim was also not present the next morning to check us out at 11. Overall one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a hotel. The bed was so bad that you could feel each spring clearly through the thin cover. Would recommend that you DO NOT stay here.

Response by Butternut Inn and Pancake House
I wished that you would of called the number even though it would ring once to the phone next to you it would of then transferred to my cell phone which was with me in the utility room since I was repairing a circulator pump that failed which controls the water pressure in the building. Sorry about the bed but I'm confused since we don't have any springs in our mattresses . Once again sorry Jim

Mike is a very accommodating host. I arrived quite late, but let him know & it was no problem. I felt welcome & comfortable, although everyone was asleep. Guests order breakfast off the menu, each item tasted great. Very convenient to Killington. Beds & toilet paper quite possibly more comfortable than at home!

"Perfect for Killington Stage Race!"
05/28/15 Chrishy_NY New York City, New York
Butternut is normally closed for the season but reopens specifically for this weekend and is more affordable than the other accommodation options. It had everything we needed w a great central location to all stages to boot: wifi, clean rooms, fridge in each room, and a very hearty and filling breakfast which was surprisingly included with the three night rate. Big thanks to Phil and the Butternut staff for making our Memorial Day weekend perfect! Tip: eat next door at the Foundry (hearty American)/down the road at Peppinos (yummy Italian). We had our best Killington meals there.

"The best breakfast included I think I've ever had"
05/14/15 DJtec Washington DC, District of Columbia
this is a quaint and holy lodge where the rooms are not much to speak of but it's affordable clean and nice. However the breakfast and the service are some of the best I've ever experienced ever.now this is not luxurious commercialized service I'm talking about this is like going to visit your family only a family you've never met and a family that would do anything for you. Jim and his family and their hospitality made us feel more at home than I do at my moms house on Christmas. I ordered a veggie omelette with bacon and Jim knew exactly what that meant and he followed it up with a side of four massive pancakes each with its own delicious topping built-in I probably didn't need to eat for days but it at least got us through the skiing day until dinner. I have to admit that the room seemed a little bit like they were out of the 1970s but that's fine by me because I'm not into paying more money than I need to for things that I don't care about. I would definitely go back and I would like to bring some friends specially some friends that like to ski eat and have a good time. Thanks Jim for making my weekend a wonderful memory.

"Close to the mountain, delish breakfast"

Butternut Inn is a great place to stay. It's close to all mountain activities and the free breakfast with your stay makes it a super value. The owner is nice too- he takes care of everything with a smile on his face. The only negative thing I can say is the shower could be better cleaned, but it wouldn't stop me from staying there again.

We spent the winter break here. You get what you pay for. Breakfast is included and you can get both an omelette and fruit salad, not only pancakes. Jim, the owner was great! His wonderful hospitality, he fixed everything, drove us to the slopes, picked us up in the afternoons. He could not make the weather warmer, but I am sure he tried to.

"First Ski trip in VT was a success due to this place!!"
02/23/15 madale2015 Poughkeepsie, New York
Jim and his staff take such good care of their guests needs that our trip was made so much easier. Being new to the area and mountain can be a bit intimidating but with Jim's advice and counsel. The shuttle he runs to the mountain and to the restaurants in the area are pure gold! The breakfast is great and people from all over the area were flocking in each morning for PANCAKES!! Good fuel for a day of challenging skiing on the mountain. Can't wait to return.

Great place to stay if going skiing or staying in the area, Jim & Phil are great guys to chat with after a day out. The breakfast deal is one you can't beat as you don't have to worry about heading out, finding something to eat in a timely manner if you're in a hurry in the morning. I much agree with Retired Traveler 7 's review, he's right on also. Have stayed here before and will continue to do so provided there is room left.

"Great budget Motel on Killington Road"
09/30/14 Retired_Traveler_7 Toronto, Canada
Great budget hotel, medium sized rooms, somewhat dark and small with limited seating area. This place tends to met the basic needs, a good nights sleep on semi-firm mattress. The included breakfast was way to much food, well cooked and supplied by friendly staff. The wifi worked, the hot water was ample and overall quiet during the low season. One of the least expensive places near Killington .

The place does not look like a 5 star Inn, however, the Owner Jim and his entire staff are the nicest people I have ever met while on vacation. They make sure your needs are met. They know the area well. Phil was absolutely wonderful, I really enjoyed talking with him. Plus Phil and I share the same birthday. Phil knows a lot about the area. Just ask Phil were to go to see Vermont's beautiful scenery. The chef was very nice and the food was delicious. 1st place that knows how to make HOT water HOT for tea. Everything was perfect and my husband and I are already making plans to come back. Very down to earth. Perfect in every way. Thank you so much Jim and the entire staff at Butternut Inn for making our stay wonderful.
