This is an old Victorian converted to b&b. If you like this sort of thing, this is a good example. It's two blocks from the splendid Victorian Public Gardens, and near the University I'm told, so there's young energy around. No elevator, and the breakfast was only okay. Staff is very helpful and friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not worth the money"
Ugh. The hotel is across the street from a hospital. Not the park. You have to be buzzed in ( recommends the neighborhood doesn't it?). We waited for several minutes for the staff to let us in. We dealt with three different staff - one mediocre, one downright rude and one quite pleasant. Room was extremely small. Our tv didn't work. Quiet, though. Breakfast […] was typical. It absolutely is not worth what we paid. But Halifax is surprisingly expensive for a small city. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly, comfortable, clean"
Away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown core so no party folks to contend with, this lovely B & B is a short walk to Spring Garden Road. With a light self-serve breakfast in the morning and tea in the late afternoon, this is a great maritime experience. I will stay here the next time I'm back in town.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Garden South Park Inn Thank you for submitting a review of our Inn. I am pleased to read you had a wonderful stay and thank you for choosing us. We do pride ourselves in providing a light buffet style breakfast and snacks in the evening. After a long day at sight seeing, I am glad you enjoyed a nice snack before turning in for the night. We do hope to welcome you again when in Halifax
"Wonderful spot in Halifax"
The service, room, and location were all outstanding. The staff were all very friendly and the room was very cozy with a good television and spacious bathroom. The only minor quibble is a lack of free parking on weekdays but if you are resourceful enough you can find nearby streets that you can park on overnight during the week.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Garden South Park Inn I thank you for writing a comment regarding your stay with us. We are glad you were happy with your stay. Thanks for the kind words and I will share your comments with all the staff.
Very nice. Very friendly service. Nice room in older but very well-maintained building. Easy walk to downtown and most things to see in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Garden South Park Inn Thank you for your kind words and great rating. Likewise we cannot say enough about our wonderful guest.
"Good downtown location, but..."
This hotel was probably once a large house near downtown Halifax. My room was small. Soundproofing non-existent; I could hear the desk clerk coughing down the hall. Could hear every noise in the hallway. There was no desk so I could not comfortably work in my room. There was a hair in the sink, one in the toilet, and one in the bathtub. Bed was comfortable. […] Room was relatively inexpensive. But I won't stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
In the late evening we saw about four mice run through our room. They ran from the fireplace, around or under the bed, and under the door and out to the hallway. There was no food from our room so they were likely heading to the kitchen across the hall from our room. The reception desk was closed so we were unable to request another room for the night. […] I mentioned this situation to the staff as we checked out, but the lady I spoke with seemed doubtful. She apologized but didn't make an effort to learn more about what we found, or compensate us for the inconvenience. The hotel staff did accommodate the requests I made when placing the booking, if the rodent issue could be resolved it would have been a reasonable visit. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Pleasant hotel, but away from waterfront"
A pleasant place to stay, but further away from the waterfront than I expected. Halifax is hilly and walking from lower areas such as the bus/train station is mostly upwards. A taxi is recommended. Reception closes at around 10pm so make arrangements if arriving late. Within two or three blocks there are quite a few restaurants and coffee shops, plus […] the city gardens and the citadel. For the waterfront area, be prepared to walk a much greater distance. Breakfast has plenty to offer and is served in an airy front room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Garden South Park Inn Hello Allan I thank you for taking the time to write a comment about our wonderful Inn, I agree it is a little hilly walking up from the waterfront or the train station and do take approx. 15 minutes but still within a couple blocks to our famous Spring Garden Road entertainment street. We do apologize if the office closing at 11PM and late check in of guest up to 10:45PM, was an inconvenience to you; however, we can offer an extended check in time if advised in advance. We do hope you will allow us to accommodate you on your next visit to Halifax Regards
Satisfactory. The continental breakfast was only adequate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Place to Stay"
The hotel is homey and cozy. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The location is exceptional, the waterfront is no more than a 10 minute walk as is the Citadel and the Public Gardens. So much to do an see in such a small area. The Continental Breakfast was an added plus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Garden South Park Inn Hello April I thank for your comments and we are glad you were happy with your stay at the Inn. We are proud to say w do offer a great extended complimentary continential breakfast to our guest as well as evening coffee, tea and snacks which I hope you did take advantage off as well. I will be sure to pass on the comments to all the staff and look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

They still own me 24$!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Garden South Park Inn Hello I am sorry to hear that your stay at our Inn was not ideal. I admit that I am surprised to see you were overcharged as this is not our policy here. I will definitely follow up to see if any person was incorrectly charged. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
"1km from Point pleasant park"
Visiting daughter at Dalhousie University. The hotel is across from hospital and it is a bit noisy at night, but the room itself was clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was OK, yogurt, muffins, croissant, cereal, toast...nothing fancy but enough to get you on your way.Genuine Expedia guest review
Should be advertised as a bed and breakfast rather than a hotel/motel. Parking is 12 dollars extra. Building can only be accessed from front door. .....Aside from these small little things, I enjoyed my stay. Very friendly and helpful staff clean and full functioning room. I would stay again and would recommend to others.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Garden South Park Inn Thank you for your kind words about our staff I will be sure to share the information with them. Due to the number of rooms we are classified as an Inn or small hotel and not a B & B; however we do offer a complimentary continential breakfast which makes it seem more of a B & B, with the rather great smells of home baking. We do hope to see you on your next visit to Halifax. Sincerely, Marie
"Nice hotel close to downtown"
I have stayed there for four nights. I loved everything over there, all nice touches, such as wrapped candy in the lobby all the times, cookies and hot coffee in the evenings. The breakfast was very good, fresh, and muffins were backed daily. The rooms are clean and comfortable. VERY VERY VERY great and friendly staff. Look forward to staying there […] again. Response by Garden South Park Inn Thank you for taking the time to write a positive review of our wonderful Inn and Staff. We do indeed have a good continental breakfast with all of our muffins, crossiants etc baked at the Inn thus the warm smell when you do arrive. I will be sure to pass this information on to all the staff and we do look forward to having you stay with us again. Regards
"Waited Up For Us"
The Garden South Park Inn met our expectations. But the big difference for us was that we had missed our original flight and only got in at 2 am, but someone was there to take proper care of us. When you've spent half your day on a trans-Atlantic flight and the other half waiting in an airport, such moments are important. We'd stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Garden South Park Inn I thank you so much for your kind words and great rating. It is rewarding when a guest do mention the kindness of our staff, I can imagine how tireing it is when you have a long flight. We would love to have the opportunity to welcome you again. I will certainly share this information with all of our staff. Marie
I stayed here before and it was okay but this time my experience was terrible. The room was fine but the mattress was old and tired. The sheets wouldn't even fit properly on it. With two people, there was a sag in the middle and we both got up in the morning after a terrible time trying to sleep. We had a three night booking but we booked at another […] hotel and moved out after one night. Never again. The owners should be ashamed of themselves.

"We will stay here again!"
We stayed here on a last-minute anniversary weekend getaway to Halifax and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room (105) was inexpensive, small, cheerfully decorated and comfortable. The staff was friendly and the place was very clean. We laughed when we first saw our room and called it a munchkin room (see the picture of my husband on the twin bed), but we both slept comfortably. Also, because our room was in the basement, our view was of the driveway (it was not a problem - it was quiet and we got a breeze when the window was open) and we found this funny, too. The location is terrific! We parked our car at the hotel ($12) and left it there while we walked all over - The Public Gardens, the Citadel, the HarbourWalk, Farmer's Market, etc. It was a short walk to Henry House where we had an enjoyable dinner. The room passed muster on the issues Important to me - The shower was hot (and had two shower heads!), the glasses were real glass, the internet was free and zippy, hotel and surroundings were quiet and, overall, the hotel had a charming, unique vibe. We plan to stay here again!
"Adequate, but poor value for our money"
09/28/14 929Patty Cranbrook
We were disappointed by the quality of this inn; it appears to have been renovated recently but the room furnishings were cheap and utilitarian. The breakfast was self serve, and plain but adequate. Guests helped themselves to continental offerings, and cleaned up after themselves as there were no staff assigned to monitor the area. The system seemed to work well, but we missed the opportunity to interact with an owner/local. It is well situated, within 15 minutes of major attractions on the waterfront and all restaurants; the shopping area on nearby Spring Garden street was inviting. We had a room on the 3rd floor with an unattractive view of the rooming house next door. Parking is very limited - only 7 spots for 21 rooms so if you arrive later, you must rely on metered parking on the street (free on weekends) or public parking at the hospital across the street. Next time we'll forget about looking for charm, and will book a room in a hotel downtown where high quality is assured.
"just right for us"
09/17/14 Beadworker San Antonio, Texas
Having arrived late in the evening, we were greeted by a wonderful smell: it was the pastries baking for tomorrow's breakfast! Been here a week and it suited our needs perfectly. In this very walkable city, we were in a nice neighborhood, within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. 15 minutes gets you anywhere on foot. The room was comfortable and clean, breakfast more than adequate (including those house baked pastries) and staff was helpful and accomodating to us. Very nice indeed.
"Very comfortable, friendly place, close to downtown Halifax"
09/13/14 FrequentTravellerYYZ Toronto, Canada
This inn is located right across from the hospital and less than 15 min walk to most of the major attractions in Halifax. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was basic but generous. We stayed 9 days and found the staff helpful and friendly. We also met many of the guests and found them friendly also. The price was reasonable for Halifax, although parking is extra. We would definitely stay here again.
"Lots of possibilities"
08/28/14 TheArdentTraveler Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
This rating dropped a full point based on the reception we received when we first got into the property. We got there a couple hours early, and the person at the reception desk should not - under any circumstances - be allowed to interact with the public. If we could have moved into another property without financial penalty, we definitively would have. When we came back to check in, he had been replaced by a much friendlier younger fellow. Ideal location, limited parking. Room very clean, great shower, and great beds. Nice "office" with two computers and a couple chairs where we hung out. Inn doesn't seem to know whether they want to stay an older establishment or become a more modern inn. Excellent restaurants in vicinity, which is good because the free breakfast was uninspired.
08/18/14 James C Corvallis, Oregon
Our room was quiet and reasonably well appointed. The main draw for this establishment is the excellent location. Easy walking distance to the harbor, many good restaurants and drinking establishments as well as the Victorian Garden and the Citadel. Breakfasts are nothing memorable, however. With the exception of the TV comment, Landrys05's review is essentially the same as mine. If my wife and I are ever fortunate enough to return to Halifax, we will stay at the Garden South Park Inn.
"Could have been better"
08/07/14 moodemoiselle Montreal, Canada
When you first walk in the hotel is very cute, it has a nice antique look, but my excitement quickly faded once we got to the reception. The women at the desk was not welcoming at all, in fact she made us feel like we were bothering her. The was adequate but nothing extraordinary, it definitely did not have that cozy little charm you felt when you walked in or that one generally associate with a bed and breakfast. The room was a mish mesh of random furniture, the bed was hard and one of the closet doors did not open. One of the most attractive features about the hotel is the location. It is about a 5-10 minute walk to the docks and there are so many wonderful restaurants and pubs minutes away. The breakfast left some thing to be desired, if you were lucky there was coffee ready and a couple of fruit. I am sad to say that on my next trip to Halifax I will be staying somewhere else.
"Weekend Getaway to Halifax"
08/06/14 Landrys05 Halifax, Canada
We stayed here for an anniversary a few years ago,so definetely noticed the more modern renovations they have done(although the old school charm from before was nice,as well) We were in a Queen room on the 3rd floor. View not the best(overlooking a cemetary) but oh well... The room was lovely and modern. Bed very comfy, air conditioning worked well,2 shower heads(1 a rainfall)...very nice. The room was quiet-heard nothing overnight. Staff were friendly. My only reason for not giving it an excellent rating was the poor TV reception in the room and the dried out muffins at the continental breakfast. The rest of the bkft. was fine. We would definetely come back and we would recommend this Inn!
"A Very Nice Stay"
07/14/14 Azevedo_Chris Vancouver, Canada
Our 2-week trip through the Maritimes began with 3 nights at the Garden South Park Inn - my wife, our 19-month old daughter and myself. We also stayed here for our final night of the 2-weeks which became 2 nights courtesy of hurricane Arthur delaying our flight by a day. We were fortunate to be able to stay put in our same room for the additional night. Nicely situated, it met all our expectations without issue - we had a very nice stay. I only give it a Very Good because I save the Excellent status for those experiences that go above and beyond my expectations.
"Shocked then Surprised"
07/11/14 Tony F Abu Dhabi
I must admit having arrived from Toronto in the late afternoon and a miserable day, low cloud and rain i was ready to check in for some comfort. The taxi driver had verbal diareah but knew where he was going, just. My shock that evening was to find myself standing in front of a property that looked a cross between the Adams Family residence and a crack house! HOWEVER, in the morning having checked in and gathered my senses, was different. The property is in a specific old design, which had been rubbed down for redecoration. Painters and decorators clambered over the building the following few days. Inside it was cosy, the decor being a 1960's English B&B. Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast setting perhaps a little bit old fashioned these days, but fitted the style of the property. Location very good, opposite the university and only a short walk up to the shops.
