The hotel is in an older building, built in 1926, My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. It is located in a nice neighborhood, convenient to many restaurants and two bus stops within walking distance. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. My only regret is that there is no breakfast at the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Love the West End area of Vancouver"
The Buchan is, for lack of better words, quaint. Certainly not a modern hotel, it is located in a neighborhood of small apartment and condo buildings. Very nice neighborhood, but parking was difficult. We had to park down the road at a pay lot. Problem with the pay lot is that you can only pay for your overnight stay through 6am the following morning. […] After paying the parking fee, we ended up being lucky to find free street parking for the night just a few buildings down the street. We did love walking down to the waterfront, visiting stores and restaurants on Robson street, and the proximity of the Buchan to Stanley Park (just about 1 block away). The room was clean, the bathroom was tiny, but sufficient, and the staff was friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Location - Older Hotel, Pros/Cons"
Pros: Good location - nice residential area close to Stanley Park and plenty of food places. Just off one of the main shopping streets (Robson). Good Service - everyone at the front desk was very nice and helpful, especially with directions and bus lines. Overall hotel was clean. Cons: Older Hotel - needs some updates: some of the paint was peeling […] in the room. Room had very small washroom and some floor tiles were cracked/loose. Bed was VERY firm - woke up 2nd day needing to stretch quite a bit. No air conditioning but the weather was nice (late Sept.) - left the small window in the washroom open. "Older hotel with all of the pluses and minuses"
The location is great - close to Stanley Park and several very good restaurants as well as the rest of the downtown area. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The hotel is old. That means great touches like wide wooden hallways, crown moldings and a large reading room that is kept stocked with the local papers. It also means no elevator (but there […] are only 3 floors), no a/c, and apparently virtually no insulation in the attic. We were on the third floor and while the outside temperatures were only in the high 70's (F) the room was at least 10 degrees warmer and the ceiling was very warm to the touch. Also, oddly for an older hotel, the walls let a lot of sound through from the adjoining rooms (we could distinctly hear conversations and TV dialogs). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Just the basics"
Clean, comfortable, nice neighborhood and convenient for an overnight stay or a base for sightseers, pleasant front desk staff, parking a bit of a challenge but manageable, TV impossible for me to operate. No phone in room. Met my expectations for the price and a bonus to be so near Stanley Park.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is simply a budget hotel. It is located in the West End, which is a nice area of Vancouver with lots of nearby restaurants and cafes. It is also walkable from the busy downtown area and adjacent to the beautiful Stanley Park. All in all, an excellent location. That said, it is not a great hotel. I felt like I was in a dormatory with the rooms located […] along a drab hallway. The room itself was small and also rather drab. The bathroom was fine. The service was fine. Very simply, it is a budget hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great tree lined neighborhood near Stanley Park. Older hotel, but certainly adequate for a short stay. Bike rentals available nearby and lots of restaurants within walking distance. The Italian restaurant next door had excellent food and service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location-simple hotel!!"
Hotel was clean, bed comfortable, great location to Stanley Park. It is an older hotel so you must take that into consideration. Highly recommend--great price!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old but OK"
The place is old and looks more like a dorm. There is no elevator; we had to climb to the 2nd floor with the luggage. Inside there was no air conditioner. However, we were in a very good neighborhood, just blocks away from Stanley Park (a major attraction in Vancouver), and a lot of very nice restaurants on Denman St. The rooms were clean, the staff […] were very helpful, the wi-fi was free, and it was less expensive than the alternatives. Very friendly hotel staff, great location, and comfy bed. The only thing I was not pleased with was the shower situation. There was a toilet and sink in my private bath, but no shower. This will not bode well for those who fear germs.Genuine Expedia guest review
"could walk to everything we wanted to do"
We really enjoyed our stay there. It's a unique old hotel in a quiet neighborhood. We were able to walk to Stanley Park, the waterfront, restaurants, coffee houses and shopping. The staff was helpful and pleasant. We were very pleased with our stay there!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quaint hotel in a residential area by Stanley Park"
Booked this place during three day weekend trip to Vancouver with family. The hotel is in a residential area which has it's positives and negatives. The hotel is slightly hard to find (if you have GPS or looked up directions, it's fine) and is difficult. They have a paid parking lot but when we got there (around 8:00 PM), it was already full so we had […] to park in the street. The plus side is that it is very quiet at night and you don't really have to worry about shady people walking around at night (well, relatively speaking). My dad is a very light sleeper and has difficulty sleeping outside of our home but he had no problem that night. The staff, both during check in and check out were friendly and informative. The facility and rooms looked recently renovated and clean. The bathrooms were somewhat uncomfortable due to being small. The economy rooms do not have private bathrooms but do have sinks in them to wash up, which was nice. Overall, the Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Older hotel but in good quiet neighborhood"
It is more like an hostel. Need to share bathroom with others on the whole floor. Parking is limited but public transportation is adaquate and bus to downtown runs every 10 minutes or so and there are plants resturant within walking distance but no fancy shopping. Good and close in to parks and beaches. Good value for the stay. Seem pretty safe around […] the area. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good location, very quiet area"
Not expansive, and older building but in a very close in location to Stanley park and English Bay. Good walk around and DT bus runs 5-10 minutes a bus. Parking is very limited and could be issues with in and out frequent trips if you do not have a spot.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice place & great bargain. Glad I stayed there."
To begin with, its location is superb. You are only a couple blocks from Stanley Park (which is where you will want to spend as much time as possible). Denman Street is only a could blocks away as well. There you will find plenty of restaurants, coffee houses, food stores, etc. The accommodations aren't first class - but I didn't expect them to be. […] But the hotel definitely has character. The room was clean and it was very quiet inside the hotel. The staff were very friendly and took time to answer my questions and help me out. The only downside was I booked a room that didn't have a private bathroom. Still the shared bathrooms and shower facilities were very clean and located directly across my room. In short, I felt fortunate to have stayed here. I saved $$$ on a room and was able to explore some of Vancouver's top sites (Stanley Park, English Bay) with ease. "nice little hotel"
Immaculately restored older hotel in nice neighborhood close to restaurants and bus line. A major con is that it has three floors with no elevator or assistance available for getting yourvbags upstairs. Also the room, though we'll appointed, had only a tiny very noisy ceiling fan. Lastly was that there was no ice available anywhere in the hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and quiet"
Great location, quiet. Comfortable and clean room in a prime location. Walk to Stanley Park and anywhere in downtown Van. We walked to BC Place and waterfront. Denman at your doorstep. We had a corner room, third floor, comfortable and spacious. Parking is limited. We parked for a couple of days at Crown Plaza Hotel on Comox. Left the car and used shanks […] mare and small ferries to get around False Creek. Didn't get a chance to try the restaurant but it looked appealing. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location & close to shopping & attractions"
The Buchan is conveniently located in a safe, quiet neighborhood: just a couple of blocks away from Stanley Park and one street over from Robson St. The hotel is clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are shared, but private; just like they are in a house. And, it was really convenient having a sink in our room. Price was […] our main motivator in selecting this hotel, but we were thoroughly impressed. Will definitely be staying here again the next time we visit Vancouver BC! "Great Location, Clean and Cheap Room"
This is a great hotel for its location and price. It's off the beaten path of Vancouver and in a great neighborhood. The rooms are clean. The building is old so don't expect perfect fixtures and trimmings, but it is all in good condition. The wifi in the room didn't work very well. That would be my only complaint.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Buchan Hotel I'm sorry to hear about your WIFI, One of my projects this winter is to identify any weak spots and see if we can fix them.
"very very clean and great location!!"
the hotel was very very clean, everyday. the location to everywhere we went for our vacation was spot on and the staff was great at giving easy directions!! the room was very warm but with the window open and a fan, it was very pleasant (probably because it was on the third story) but the price for an assigned spot in the lot was fantastic, everything […] smelled nice and clean and it was a great vacation!! we would definitely stay here again! Great area. Worked well for me.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We've decided to stay at the Buchan because of the location (close to Stanley Park and not far from downtown) and we liked it. The rooms are ok, not fancy, somehow clean and overall in bad condition (bathroom was old and needs renovation). Staff are friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beauty on the outside only."
I have always walked by this quaint building and wondered what it was like. Now that I have stayed I don't ever have to. It was spartan and noisy. I had booked due to the proximity of the race I was running and they put me in a room directly over their lounge which had music loud enough that I could hear each song. The plumbing was also noisy and I […] heard every time a room flushed or ran water. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is the worst hotel I have ever experience . Very noisy in hallways, can hear people talking on the other floors, very outdated and smelly. I could not sleep even one hour.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location close to Stanley Park and the price was low. Hotel is kind of funky and has charm. Not really a fan of the shared washroom/shower thing, and the room felt old and had a strange odour. Nice big windows though plus a fan helped. The room was clean though. Top location, hub of west end of town. Funky eclectic mix of shops. Road Closed Day was on while we were here, what fun with market stalls, music, good vibes and great atmosphere. We loved our stay despite the whole visit marred by grey skies and showery weather. So close to Stanley Park and English Bay with the gorgeous laughing men!! We are keen walkers […] so for us everything was in walking distance but fantastic public transport was everywhere. Hop on Hop Off Bus was great but public transport is just as efficient. Hotel was 'Character' had lovely charm about it. We arrived before check in time just expecting to leave baggage at reception & go sight seeing but our room was ready so they allowed us early access which was appreciated. Gave us time to chill & have a coffee then hit the pavement! Rooms were 'what you pay for' bed was a bit hard, we were cold at night and couldn't find a spare blanket, just put some clothes on to go to bed in rather than ask at the front desk. Room was spacious enough, shared bathroom was close to our room and noise was to a minimum except we could hear every footstep on the stairs as we were next to the stairwell. It didn't bother us as we were here to see the place not be holed up in accommodation!! We loved our stay and ate out at the local fish n chip shop, C-Lovers, it was delicious. Night walks around the waterfront was delightful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Actually a great place to stay."
The location is pretty awesome. The rooms are actually clean and tidy and even though I was hesitant about the shared bathrooms, it was not bad at all. Like I said, the hotel was very clean throughout. My only issue with this hotel is the lack of hotel parking. They have a very limited amount of parking spots and if you are driving, parking is going […] to be VERY difficult. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"close to sights"
It is a lovely hotel on a very quiet street which is nice from the hustle of the busy downtown. Our only complaint was no air conditioning and it was a hot hot day. With that being said it had fans which did help and being able to actually open the windows was a great plus. We will come back and stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Booked this after a lot of research, based on price and location. It scored highly on both. Great area - quiet, safe and easy walking distance to so many places. Nearby supermarket among everything else! Very nice room although be aware it gets extremely hot if the weather is very hot (no aircon but they provided extra fans). It is a pretty basic hotel […] and some guests seemed to have unrealistic expectations. It's true that if you paid the same price for somewhere in the suburbs you'd get a really great hotel. But you're paying partly for location and it's a fantastic one! The hotels with a location like this that are more upmarket are ridiculously expensive. So if you want the sea/mountain/city views and aircon and luxury service go and stay somewhere else and pay a lot more. If you're looking for a modest, clean, safe hotel with an amazing location and friendly staff, look no further. Definitely coming back. Thanks to everyone at the Buchan for helping make my first trip to Vancouver such a memorable one! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
