"Nice hostel in an apartment"
Great location. This hostel is an apartment with several rooms. The only downside is that there is rarely anyone there to take care of issues (we didn't have any issues though); also, if the owner is out when you arrive, you get to wait outside on the street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not a Hotel or Hostel"
This seems to be some guy renting out his apartments various rooms. Something you'd see on airBNB and not hotels.com. There is no front desk or reception or anything, so when I arrived to the address to see an apartment complex, I was confused. This is why he sends an email asking when you will be arriving so that someone is there to let you in, but […] that is never stated in the email. So i had to wait outside in the cold for 30 minutes because I showed up an hour early. There is an additional 15 Euro fee for late check in past 6pm and another 10 Euro fee which the lady described as a "cleaning fee" though she didnt speak english and i dont speak russian, so something may have been lost in google translate. But i always thought cleaning fee was just part of the hotel bill.

"Nice location, but no service"
We got an e-mail two hours before check in where we had to specify when we wanted to check in. Of course we were already travelling at the time and didn't see it before we arrived. This caused some confusion. In addition they had booked us for too few nights. Because of this we had to change rooms in the middle of the stay to another one 1 km away. […] Be aware that the hotel has rooms at other locations as well. We had to walk 1 km to our room from the reception. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Worst experience ever..."
It is not a hostel but it seems to be an apartment someone rents out to make a lot of money. There is not evan a door bell that says hostel. Our room was very small and not cosy at all. Overall, the atmosphere was very unfriendly. The walls are very thin and some people came home late shouting around. Another surprise was that there is no private bathroom […] but only one to share for all the guests. When I made the reservation it did not say "shared bathroom" on the website. Also, the mattress is thin and gave us back pain. The staff only speaks Russian and is never there. One has to set an appointment in advance to get the keys, which is very stressful when traveling. It was the worst choice we have ever made!!! We definitely do NOT recommend this place. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Need to get their act together!"

We booked a room at “Hostel near the Brandenburg Gate” in Berlin for 3 nights from August 07.2014 € 162. I received the confirmation email shortly after booking at 6 minutes after midnight on August 7. We arrived shortly after 13.00 because I wanted to show my friend around Berlin. Actually Wilhelmstr. 48 is almost a kilometre walk (800 m) to the Brandenburg Gate but whatever. I found Wilhelmstr. 48 but absolutely no trace of any hotel, hostel, zimmer etc. I asked in the flower shop on the corner but they had no knowledge of any hotel. I walked down to a restaurant on the other corner and was directed to a hotel a few blocks away. This was not the correct hotel. Eventually someone in the restaurant told me to ring on the name “Kirchner”. I was told this was on the third floor. On the third floor was informed that the “hotel” was at a different location about 2 km away at Fischerinsel 6. They had sent me an email informing me of this at 12:31. I was given the keys and sent on my way. I drove there expecting to find something that looked like a hotel or hostel. Eventually I found out that the “hotel” is actually a three-bedroom private apartment in a 20 story apartment building. We open the door and found a couple suitcases and women’s clothes scattered about the living room and kitchen. We put our things in bedroom number one. We had now used about three hours at this crap. We left the “hotel” at around 17:00 to use what was left of the day to walk around and eat dinner. When my girlfriend and I returned about 22:30 and tried to open the lock someone on the inside was trying to prevent us from entering. I finally managed to turn the lock and force the door open a little bit. There was a rather surprised Turkish girl in her early 20s. We told her we were living there and she said “No!” I actually forced my way in, opened the door to bedroom and showed her our things and the receipt. She thought she was renting the place to herself. I feel sorry for her because she was not properly informed by the hotel. I also wonder what would've happened if I was not the companied with my girlfriend. The next day to men arrived in bedroom number three. There was no key to the bathroom! I apologize to the guy who was sitting on the toilet when my girlfriend opened the bathroom door! Aside from no key to the bathroom door the apartment was fairly clean. It had a refrigerator, microwave, stove, cooking utensils and a washing machine in the bathroom. The free internet functioned well.
"Mix-up and additional payment"

1. I booked room in a hostel 2. One day before arrival i was informed that "due to major construction measures on the building complex and the complete hostel, the accommodation in the hostel is not guaranteed between" and that "We would be grateful if you cancel your reservation" One day before arrival it is almost imposible to find another hostel with free rooms so i didn't cancel it. 3. I didn't cancel reservation and confirmed that i ll be in hostel at 9 a.m but i can check in later if there is a problem. 4. Hostel confirmed my reservation but the adress was changed. I recived apartment with good conditions but it was located much farther from the city center. 5. I need to pay additional money: 10 EU for cleaning and 15 EU for early check in (notice that i informed that i can check in later if there is a problem). All in all: Good conditions but completely different from offer on budgetplaces.com. There was no information about additional payment.
"Great location but your booking may not be as seemed"

Overall, this place is not bad and the location was very good. However, we were misled about the occupancy - we thought that we had exclusive access to our floor / apartment, when actually we were sharing with other people. The hostel manager had her office in our living room, which is a bit weird. Also, they tried to charge us extra for cleaning (and at an extortionate rate too). The facilities are ok but one shower between 15-20 people is not good enough. Also the shower itself is rubbish.
"Two words best summarizes it: horrible and awful."

This hostel is a mere medium sized flat whereby most rooms were converted into suites - the service is horrible: the person did not speak any English nor German and is never there - we had the same stinky towels for 4 days - the location is noisy: downstairs lies a restaurant with loud early morning truck deliveries - it often becomes impossible to sleep because of constant door slam noises from the occupants ( as the 6 rooms share one single small bathrooms) - I have traveled over 50 countries and stayed at hundreds of hotels and I would not hesitate placing this one at the top 2 worst. For 150 bucks a night one can definitely get MUCH better, especially in Germany. Our room resembled a prison cell with white walls and no furniture in its 9 square meters ... Awful. My advice is to avoid this place-

The Brandenburg Gate Hostel is an amazing Hostel for people searching low budget accommodation with excelent conditions. It's really close to Brandenburg Gate so you are close to everything that matters in Berlin.
"Schöne Tage in Berlin"

Sehr gute Lage, sehr freundliches, korrektes, hilfsbereites Personal!!

11/19/13 Chernogolovka Moscow region
