So we stayed here for two nights on our honeymoon. We were trying to save a few bucks while in Vancouver. The hotel itself is definitely not high class but, fantastic location. The room was much better than we expected and perfectly comfortable (even had full kitchen). We spent sunsets hanging out with the locals on English Bay Beach (right across the […] street from hotel). Its in such a vibrant part of town with so much activity and restaurants galor. For half the price of basically anything else in downtown, its a nobrainer! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Love this place, its location and room pricing"
This was my third week-long stay at this hotel. The rooms are always clean and include a small kitchenette. The room price is terrific, and I will continue to stay here during all my future visits to Vancouver. The room was cleaned daily with the used towels and sheets routinely replaced. The location is wonderful. Hotel is a short walk to the beach […] and sea wall trails, Stanly Park nature preserve, the aquarium and the many fun restaurants in the area. It sits on the main transient routes for Vancouver’s excellent public transient system, plus down town center city is a modest walk away, as are the small boats shuttling people to the delightful Grandville Island tourist trap. You can open the windows to catch the sea breezes, and if the room overlooks the main street, the alive sounds and smells of the city. My only complaint is the lack of a super soft pillow. Now this place is not the Ritz-Carlton in which I have stayed more than once. I view hotels as a place to store your stuff while exploring the local environment and sleep when that time arrives. I am a guy with Spartan needs and a thin pocket book – I actually much prefer this hotel to the pretentious overpriced, high-end hotels in which I have stayed while traveling on business. For me and presumably people with my needs and tastes in hotels this place is 5-Star accommodations. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great bargain in accommodations with a great location in Vancouver. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is in good location, but parking garage is wayyy too tight and awkward to get into. Rooms are spacious, but gross-feeling and smell weird. Place looks shady and i couldn't help but feel like i was getting jipped. Would NOT book here ever again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Midnight arrival off train, scary curbside appearance, night clerk asleep, not enough English to understand "phone book" ....... beds clean and comfortable. Ok for the one night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I liked the location, the room was nice though could be cleaner, specially the kitchen floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very good location, close to stanley park, beach, shopping mall, restraunts. kitchenet is a plus.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old but clean"
Old hotel. Very clean though. Would be very hard to park a large car in the parkade. Can't beat the price for the location. I would go again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"This place is an overpriced dump!!"
This hotel should not be on Hotels.com's roster.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I picked this hotel because of the location...and the low price. It was perfect for what I needed. Not the nicest looking place I've stayed at, could use some upgrades, but it did the trick. If you are picky & high maintenance, I'd reccommend staying elsewhere but if you're just looking for a place to lay your head at night, your laid back and want […] to be near the beach, this is the place. This hotel is great! I stayed with my friends for 5 nights and we didn't have any problems in our stay. There are a lot of good restaurant and pub's close to it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Worked real well for us. Location excellent. View of bay plenty of restaurants coffee shops and pubs nearby.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Close to the beach and very affordable!"
Love the five person rooms! The hotel is right near the beach and close to Granville too. Also it is very cheap to stay there. The staff are friendly and accomadating. It's not a fancy hotel but for students looking for a cheap place to stay, it is great. The beds are good and we had no problems with cleanliness. Also, there was a big flat screen […] in the suite which was nice. They could improve the décor but that doesn't really matter for people that don't care about that stuff. The cups in the cupboard were a bit dirty and we found a hair in the ice container. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"You get what you pay for"
If you are driving a vehicle this motel is not for you. The charge of 10.00 dollars a night for underground parking. Not acceptable for a two star motel and if you have a van, suv or small truck forget about going down the extremely narrow driveway to enter the underground parking. Parking is out in the streets and good luck finding one right outside […] the motel on a busy street full of traffic, restaurants and people. The owner/front desk person does not treat you like a guest but rather alarmed and you are on watch around the clock. You get what you payed for which is the bare minimum. Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel lobby looks like an old Las Vegas strip joint, my room smelled bad as soon as I unlocked the door, and the whole building is very run down. I had to wash the bathroom & kitchenette floors before I would take my shoes off. There was hair all over the bathroom, yellow spots on the walls and mud splashed above the sink. Mold was growing in the closet area and on kitchen baseboards. I left the kitchen and bathroom lights on all night waiting for something to crawl out. The bed smelled musty sand unclean, I slept on top of the bedding using my own bed cover. I cleaned the microwave as there was food stuck inside, and would not touch the stove as the elements were severely damaged and looked dangerous. The room was very cluttered with too much furniture and the carpet needed a vacuum. One window was broken and the other was in a bad state of repair. The list goes on and on. Had the rates for this room been half what they were, I would expect nothing more than this. The location is 5 star, the only positive thing I could say. I forfeited my second night and left at 6am this morning, I could not stay there another minute after a sleepless night breathing in dust and mold, street noise such as yelling, fighting, sirens, horns blaring etc. I have lost my money, and unless there is no other alternative, I would not stay here again. Sleeping on the beach would be better.
"Location excellent, everything else terrible"
Unfortunately we booked on "no car" day and several blocks of Denman Street were blocked off. A hotel that cared about customer service would have let us know this at the time of booking but nonetheless we found our way to the back alley where we were faced with one of the most terrifying entrances to a parking garage I have ever experienced. This is not for the feint of heart! After winding our way through the dusky, dirty parkade (up a narrow flight of stairs carrying our luggage) and past the various discarded filthy old bathtubs, cabinets etc we made it to the lobby. The service was 'okay' but honestly I was more focused on trying not to breathe in the unpleasant aroma. We loaded in to the elevator (2 trips because it is a very small and ancient elevator) where I tried my best again not to smell anything. The bag of scent beads tied to the vent didn't appear to be doing too much. The hallways had the same unpleasant smell mixed with a very strong perfume smell. The rooms were the same. Space-wise, the room would have been great as it had a full kitchen, and a table with 4 chairs, however, that was overshadowed by the out-dated and not well cleaned state of the room. I had to laugh when we noticed that they actually just cut a chunk out of the bathroom door to make sure it could close past the toilet! I'd like to tell you the view made up for this but we looked out on the roof of the building next door which was littered with discarded trash and needles. I suppose we could have jumped over and cleaned it up ourselves since the window latches were broken and opened so wide they were hard to 'retrieve'. To be honest, this was an advantage for us as we were trying to air out the room but had we had small children, this would have been incredibly dangerous. I was relieved that our stay was very short and I wouldn't do it again. The Sylvia is close by and a much nicer stay!
"Great location, good price, lousy accommodations"
06/19/14 Rachel M Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico
The location can't be beat - except perhaps by the Sylvia which is - and the price is certainly good, but everything else about this hotel is horrible. The 'quiet' rooms at the back look out over a roof littered with needles and trash and the front rooms are very noisy. Both hallways and rooms have an unbelievably bad smell, and in both our rooms the windows had no latch so if you opened them, a child could easily fall out. On the plus side, the shower worked and there was a kitchenette in every room. Parking is underground, accessed off a back lane, and very difficult to access, particularly in a large car.
"A roof over your head, but not much else going for it."

Our first experience was with the front desk clerk who did the job of getting us checked in, but was a little short and somewhat persnickety. The parking garage entrance is very narrow, and there are lots of old bathtubs, desks, dressers, and other dilapidated furniture both in the garage itself and crammed against the walls of the corridor between the garage and the hotel. While the garage served its purpose of course, this only served to give things a rather ominous feeling. Also the entire corridor between the garage and the hotel, the garage itself, and the hotel lobby smell terrible--a combination of fried food, city exhaust, and some other nasty, unidentifiable smells. Getting up to our room, we were impressed with the size of it. There were 2 beds--one double, one single--in our room, with a separate room with a double bed. We were struck by how generally dirty things seemed to be--the cleaning team seam to have bypassed this room with their vacuuming:evidence of dirt, grit, etc.. on floor. Bathroom was clean enough, as were bed linens. Came with a mini kitchen, but fridge was not plugged in on our arrival, so that wasn't much good. Fridge, microwave, oven, and the provided plates and dishes were not clean. Fridge smelled very bad. Some street noise hearable from the room, but not too bad. Neighborhood is fun, and proximity to beach is nice. Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone. It did the job of giving you a place to stay if that's all you're looking for, was cheap, but you get what you pay for. Given the uncleanliness, sketchy parking experience, short desk clerks, and bad smells everywhere, you're better off finding somewhere else to stay.

Old hotel, furniture, and room, but everyday linen change and room maintenance was good. If one wants to utilizes the kitchen most, this hotel is a good choice. The location is at key point, just a hop from the big Stanley park and just across the road is the English Bay. Big shopping places nearby. Groceries and many type of eateries on the same road. The constant music played on the street can be disturbing sometimes. The room had no AC provision, just a small fan. The complimentary hot chocolate/coffee, and limited free browsing at the reception are plus points. Suitable for some type of trips.
"Good location, but disappointing hotel"
09/29/13 Laura G Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The location is great, near to English Bay, Davie Street and on Denman Street. Easy to go to Stanley Park, to eat and take a bus to Downtown. But the hotel is so old. The room was big with a small kitchen, but with a lot of old furniture, smelly, dark carpet, not clean enough, bustling noyse, dark room. We couldn't open the curtain because it was on first floor, with a view to the street. The staff is not welcoming. It was an effort to stay more than one night.
"Location was good"
09/10/13 GG-YG Osaka, Japan
Its location was convinient to access shopping areas and the park. So if you move around the North and south of the city this hotel was good but if you stay at the hotel for a long time. The hotel was old not so good but the space of the room was huge and small kitchen and refrigerator were equiped and it was difficult for us to get in and out of its parking lot in our car. also we payed 10 dollers per night.
Disappointing hotel, rooms not clean, the staff is not welcoming, bustling noisy location, small hotel, more like a cheap motel, does not fit the definition that appears in advertising (3 star), recommends to stop marketing it on the Internet. There is no lobby has a kind of a room with a reception desk, there is a difficulty upon arrival by public transport, and therefore requires the use of taxis or rental car (VP basement parking cost hotel, hotel owned high). Hotel not recommended )
"Best deal in Vancouver Value and Location"
08/24/13 neilm18 Toronto, Canada
I had reserved the room via the internet, trying to fine the best deal since hotels in Vancouver are pretty expensive, I checked out reviews which in general appeared pretty good. We arrived on the 18th of August, just seeing the lobby did not give us too much encouragement. when walking in the door,, there was a heavy smell of recently cooked food.........we checked in by a very courteous desk clerk, given the key to our room, and took the elevator up to the room, no bell boy service at the Hotel, we entered our room, and were amazed at the size of it, two large double beds, a change, storage room off the hall into the bathroom, I checked the beds which had very clean sheets, the mattress was clean and comfortable, once into the room there was a diningroom table with 4 chairs, a fridge, microwave kitchen counter with sink, toaster, coffeemaker, with a suppy of coffee, sugar and cream, Great to wake up, make coffee have toast or sandwhich yogurt etc. We opened the courtains, and looked directly at the building next door, however we were not there to look out of windows, we never heard noises at night. The room was amazing for size, cleanliness, the tv worked fine lots of channels,we never again smelled food either in the lobby or on the floors. One needs to leave the key at the desk when leaving, so we had interaction with several of the staff members who went out of their way to be helpful in a pleasant manner The location? fantastic front door on Denman Street, English bay across the street, we had a beer at a bar down the street watching the sun set, fantastic! Banks, shopping centres within 5 minutes walk Bathroom great, we did go out and buy a bathmat in order not to slip in the bath tub, but then we are "mature persons" Both of us would highly recommend this hotel
"Great location and decent room"
08/14/13 dantle75 Houston, Texas
We're a group of friend of 5 staying there during Aug 2nd weekend. The room has 3 beds and kitchen with microwave and refrigerator. We saw AC units but it's not on and we don't need because the weather was perfect. The included wifi connection was great. The location is perfect, walking distanct to almost all major parts of Vancouver and a quick jog right next Stanley Park. Parking was horrible but it's hard to blame them for being in middle of center of city. The staff is very friendly . Overall i recommend this hotel to budget travellers.
