"Excellent alternative to a hotel"
Not much to add to what's already been said by others: very clean, comfortable, inviting B&B. The owner is extremely helpful in terms of local information, day planning, etc. The location is amazingly convenient. Very highly recommend staying at the King Edward.Genuine Expedia guest review
"a great choice for Ottawa"
What a nice B&B. The host is very friendly, the breakfast was excellent, and the rooms were great. I shared a bathroom and it was no problem at all. It's a 10-minute walk to Byward Market and 5 to the University of Ottawa campus. The downstairs living rooms have a nice lounge area with a fountain and a fireplace--a nice cozy place to warm up in the […] winter. I would love to come back here again. "Perfect location and close walk to ByWard Market"
Perfect location, great breakfast, and friendly owner.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderfully restored, excellent breakfast."
We had a delightful experience with the live in owner of this marvelous old home. The one-table concept for breakfast led to refreshing and interesting conversation with other guests. This B&B rents only three rooms. One room has its own bath and a second 1 bath is shared. The existence of a half bath on the main floor accommodates everyone well. Richard, […] the owner, is very helpful and happy to discuss the history of the building and suggest routes for getting place in Ottawa. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

This is an ideal choice of somewhere to stay in Ottawa. The location is excellent next to the University and it being an easy stroll to all the main sights. Richard (and Sunny) made us welcome and gave us a full briefing on where we were and the best routes to the Downtown area soon as we arrived. The property is a beautifully Victorian house which Richard has restored from a very delapidated state into a lovely home. There is masses of communal space downstairs and visitors are welcome to make themselves tea and coffee in the kitchen. It is competitively priced and the free parking to the rear is a useful bonus if like us your touring (you won't need a car during your stay). Richard provides a scrumptuous breakfast made to order which will set you up for the day. There is a range of restaurants close by, we went with a recomendation of Richard's to Vittoria Trattoria (see seperate review) and it proved a good option. We stayed in the Tower room to the front of the property. A small amount of traffic noise filters through the double glazing but it is not excessive. The bed is big and very comfortable and the room is very large with sofa, desk lots of storage. An excellent choice.
"Best B&B Ever"

If you want to stay in Ottawa, I strongly recommend you stay at The Auberge The King Edward Bed and Breakfast. For starters it is a beautifully restored Georgian/period (?) house within walking distance of everything you would want to see in Ottawa. It is competitively priced, has striking rooms, provides the most scrumptuous breakfast, is close to restaurants, has off street parking. What more could you want? Well, Richard the host, is the best. He will make sure your stay/vacation is the best. He is a wealth of information not only about Ottawa but elsewhere in Canada (and overseas for that matter). We have stayed in quite a lot of B&Bs, and this one we would give a 10 out of 10.
"Made very welcome."

We booked this accommodation as part of our city tour on the East Side of Canada. From the moment we arrived Richard made us very welcome. As other reviews state, he does sit you down and tells all you will need to know about Ottawa. As first timers in Ottawa this was very helpful, the MAP he printed off for us was very useful. The Accommodation was clean, comfortable with lots of artefacts to keep you interested. The breakfast was fabulous, Loved the fresh fruit and croissants and muffins. The location was ideal only 10 minutes from the City centre.

Not only was this beautiful home in a great location and very comfortable our host Richard was extremely helpful. He sat us down when we first arrived and gave us really useful advice on the best places to visit and when and also gave us advice regarding the best way to get to Quebec which was our next stop and places to see in the vicinity. We would have missed the amazing sound and light show on the Parliament buildings if he had not told us about it. It was also great to have Sunny in the house to greet us each morning!

We were in Ottawa primarily to visit old friends. We had lived there over 30 years ago ! Location was perfect...easy walk to Parliament Buildings, Byward Market and various other sites. Richard gave us good maps and directions ! Lovely old and comfortable Victorian home. Croissants were so fresh...loved them ! The only concern that we had were the lack of grab bars by the shower / tub. A safety issue for Seniors like us !!!

Very nice Victorian home with a great bedroom & also we were able to use the front sitting room to relax & look at Richards collection of travel books. The garden is so beautiful. Breakfast was fabulous especially the berry muffins (homemade). Richard gave great advice on how to plan to get the most out of our time in Ottawa. Thank you for all the little extras that you provided us with. Great visit & the best, most genuine hospitality we have had.
"Summer in the city"

My husband and myself had a wedding to attend in Ottawa this August(2014) and decided to arrive a few days prior to enjoy one of our favourite Canadian cities. We stayed in the King Edward's tower room for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. The Victorian home was stunning, the room was a perfect size and we enjoyed the private balcony overlooking the incredible gardens. Everything was comfortable, clean and spacious. Breakfast was delicious and consisted of homemade fruit-filled muffins, croissants, a large bowl of freshly cut fruit, granola and eggs if you so desired. Richard even ensured a large carton of almond milk was on the table every morning as my husband and I don't consume dairy milk. The location is perfect, approximately 15 minutes from most of the cities' sights/entertainment. Richard ensured we were well informed of the various events going on during our stay, provided us with details on locations/times/ and suggestions for better vantage points (we were fortunate to be in the city during part of the fireworks competition) and ways to beat the crowds. The wonderful addition of Sunny and Kiwi made our stay even more enjoyable. All in all a great stay in a lovely home run by an attentive and excellent host!

Beautiful Victorian home, very clean. Room was excellent, good size, air conditioned, very comfortable, with small private balcony. Breakfast was great. Fresh fruit salad, freshly baked muffins, granola. One step up from Continental, although we were offered eggs, but there was no need. Terrific location, only 15 minute walk from Market, Parliament and downtown attractions. Richard was the perfect host. He performed the best orientation of any B&B we have ever been in, and we have been in many. His orientation included guidance to places and events along with the best walking routes and map. He was very welcoming, professional yet personable and took the time after breakfast to give us some guidance about our potential trip to Europe in 2015. I would welcome the opportunity to stay there again, hopefully longer than one night. If you like perennial gardens, you will love his! I would recommend The King Edward to anyone and everyone except for the travelers who complain on here about the smallest and most insignificant details like they saw a speck of dust or there were too many stairs or the bed didn't feel like theirs at home. I recommend those people stay home. Oh, I saw no dust, the stairs were quite manageable and the bed was better than ours at home. :) See you again Richard.
"Good place to visit Ottawa"
08/04/14 Ingrid M Sundre, Canada
We enjoyed our stay in the Tower Room very much. Richard gave us good advice how to get the most out of our 3-days stay in Ottawa. Without his recommendations we would have missed a lot of interesting places. The house is very conveniently located in walking distance to the most attractions of Ottawa. We especially enjoyed the balcony which belongs to the Tower Room. It was a pleasant place to chill out after hot day of site seeing. Sunny the dog and Kiwi the bird are lovely additions to the house. The many antiques in the house create a very nice atmosphere. We enjoyed the very good breakfast every morning in the dining room, which very nicely presented.
"a great base for a chilled out visit to ottawa"
I stayed in the tower room for 4 nights in July 2014 and I cant think of anything negative to say about this place! Richard, the owner is very helpful with local information. If he doesn't know the answer straight away, he was happy to look it up or make a call to find out. The auberge has a lovely relaxed and homely atmosphere. the place is also very clean and in a great location, just 15 minutes walk from the centre. The breakfast includes more food than you can eat! all round, I recommend this b&b
