"Nice hotel in great area in Berlin"
When I booked hotel I didn't realize it was in the oldest areas of Berlin - wanted to be close to Alexander Platz and Mitte areas. It was in a great area surrounded by quaint streets and shops/restaurants. We were able to walk to Museum Island and all around Berlin. Accommodations were great and would highly recommend - Thank youGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hidden gem, in the heart of Berlin"
A new hotel, in an older 'village style' part of Berlin. Room was spacious and modern, with all the facilities you could need. Within walking distance of some great restaurants. A short walk to Alexanderplatz for the U and S Bahn.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Unkompliziertes Hotel in guter Lage"

Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"They charge you tax that is not due!"
02/28/15 PragueGirl79 London, United Kingdom
Berlin has introduced a 5% city tax which the hotels should collect from customers. However, as per this official information http://www.berlin.de/sen/finanzen/steuern/informationen-fuer-steuerzahler-/faq-steuern/information-berlins-hotel-occupancy-tax-148058.en.php if the guest provides a confirmation to the hotel that the stay was for business purposes, the tax should not be charged. However, this hotel will charge this tax to anyone by default when booking through booking.com. Then, they will refuse to refund it even if you give them the required confirmation at check-in. They will unhelpfully give you a form to go and claim the tax back from the Finanzamt yourself - of course, nobody will ever do this especially if one doesn't speak German/doesn't have time to go to the Finanzamt in person/doesn't have bank account in EUR/the amount is small etc.. It is a handy source of extra income for the city. I had a lengthy conversation about this with the hotel owner Jan Rebo about why they cannot refund the tax. He said they only pay limited money to their accountants so they do not have capacity to issue a credit note! He promised me to contact the Finanzamt on our behalf and help me get the tax back. I have not had any response from him after this promise despite multiple emails sent to the hotel reception. This practice (while it may be allowed by the Finanzamt) is dishonest and artificially increases the price by a tax which is not due.
"Clean, modern and friendly"

Nikolai Residence is a jewel hidden in the old town of Berlin. We arrived early in the morning and yet they were nice to have a room for us ready. The hotel is quiet and very clean. Tea and coffee are offered. Staff are very helpful. They don't serve breakfast but there are plenty of cafes near the hotel.

5 minutes walk from Alexanderplatz station, very near the Roten Rathaus, Berlinerdom and in the prettiest part of Berlin (that we found!) the hotel has no eating facilities itself but is surrounded by bars, cafes and restaurants some of which offer discounts to hotel residents. It was well placed for the Christmas market in the Alexanderplatz, outside the Roten Rathaus and the Gendarmenmarkt which has a lovely setting. We however liked the one by the Rathaus width the outside ice rink...magic! There is a small market by the hotel and all the streets were very prettily decorated for Christmas. There are UBahn, S Bahn, trains and buses all within 5 minutes do getting around is very easy from here. Rooms spotless with tea and coffe making facilities. Staff friendly and helpful.

No breakfast in the hotel (is it a real hotel? - more apartament I think). Breakfast you can get in the nearby restautarns but after 9 AM :( Self check in when you arrive after 9PM Othwerwise fine. Friendly and helpful staff. I had a spacious double room, with one extra bed in other part of the apartament, spacious bathroom. Ca 2,5 km to Branderburger gate, but close to TV tower and Alexander Platz.

Excellent accommodation in Nikolai quarter in the area of Alexander Platz. Short walking distance to Alexander Platz train station. Plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining, and sightseeing. Convenient access to public transport. The neighborhood is very attractive, with narrow streets, welcoming restaurants, and small shops. The property is nice and clean. Rooms are spacious, and my even had a terrace. The bed was comfortable. Large flat screen TV on the wall.Very friendly and welcoming staff. Great WiFi connection, and its free. You have to note that this accommodation does not include breakfast, but there are several places next-door to have a lavish breakfast in the morning. Alternatively you can request the hotel receptionist to arrange a breakfast for you in the room. Another thing to bear in mind that reception is closed during the night, and opens at 7 in the morning. So if you are arriving late, make sure you notify the hotel in advance. Overall very good choice at a reasonable price.

Ideally situated in the old quarter of Nikolai just off Alexander platz.. great hotel, clean modern rooms. excellent location more like an appratment hotel but great service and friendly staff.. the hotel does not have a lobby or bar etc but it has great rooms with great location there are plenty places for food and drinks around and some will give you 10% discount as hotel guest

Nice hotel, excellent service at the reception, very nice and competent people. Rooms are spacious and better than we expected. There is no air conditioning, although it was not a problem during our stay. Arriving late at night can seem a bit odd, as there is no one ate the reception. But ring the bell, someone opnes the door and everything is prepared.

Very nice place in a very quiet quarter ( Nikolai ) five minutes walking from Alexanderplatz . Easy connection to U and trains. Direct train connection to Schonfeld airport. Rooms are nice, clean and fullcolor equipped. Don't miss it!
"Small Central Hotel Recently Built"
08/02/14 GEDLosAngeles_CA Los Angeles, CA
Very central to the city, near Berlin Alexanderplatz and other U-bahn and S-bahn stops and busses. In a small, postwar rebuilt area known as the Nikolai Viertel. Unfortunately, as of May, 2014, it has nearby subway construction marring the views for blocks, but this will change eventually. Hotel has lift. Rooms are large enough with a nice bathroom. Very modern facility from having recently been built, and clean. Nice amenities—including slippers and excellent, free wi-fi. Friendly staff at a desk open until 9 pm, which is typical of 3-star hotels. A definite place to stay with only one major issue for us: no breakfast offered. Nearby recommended restaurant doesn't open until 9 am, whereas most hotel restaurants are open two hours earlier, letting one get an earlier start on the day. Also, nearby restaurant that hotel recommends for breakfast is expensive and unfriendly. To find a different or earlier breakfast, one has to wander off several blocks.
"Nice hotel, close to public transport"
08/02/14 Diana L Amsterdam, The Netherlands
We stayed at this hotel in july 2014 and found it very clean and nice, the beds were comfortable and theres a lot of places to eat around the hotel and also little cafe's is very close to the s and u bahn and to alexanderplatz which made it easy to move to other places and get to the museums in just a short walk. The hotel had a quiet atmosphere and only thing I did not like it there isnt any AC and it can get very warm during the summer, also the corridors smelled like the carpet got wet..would be nice if basic breakfast would be included... Other than that i would totally recommend it for its location, comfortable beds and clean rooms :-)
