"Great Place!"
Great place for an extended few days with my wife after a week of work in the area. Only thing we truly didn't like about the place was it wasn't available for one more night before we flew home.

"Good location to walk downtown."
Great breakfast options on site. Very clean, homey feel. No air conditioning. Fan provided was sufficient, in beginning of July. Staff was friendly and helpful with questions about the city.

"The Guest House concept is Great!"
This stay reminded me of Grad school....a great group of interesting people sharing a house. while you have your own room, the commons are shared. There were travelers from Asia, Europe, Australia, and a few from the states. It was great to sit on the great front porch and talk. It was great to have a breakfast room and gardens where people wanted to interact and share their experiences. The property is 1/2 mile from a major subway and bus line. The neighborhood has shopping and grocery near by. Know the house is older and it shows. But it is clean, the staff is great and staying here makes your travels feel much more adventuresome. My room "C" had a private bath and kitchenette. I will stay again.

"Great little B and B."
Arrived late on our night, envelope waiting with out info and key. Room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great and staff was very friendly and accommodating. Location is just two short blocks from the Canada line which we took from the Airport. Will stay again when in Vancouver.

"great location"
needed a place close to VGH and was so pleased with this choice. Had the "p" (penthouse) room, which was up 2 flights of stairs. Very cozy and charming room with adjoining smaller bedroom. Had a balcony overlooking the back yard. About a 10-15 minute walk to VGH. Convenient short walk toward Broadway to catch the skytrain. Great breakfast as well. I believe the wifi was in the lobby, as there was no access in my room. Will definitely be back!

"Convenient location"
The building and rooms are lovely, but the B and B is understaffed. The few people who work there are very nice, but the rooms seemed cleaned in haste, there was nobody around to ask questions to, and there's a shabbiness to everything. The wifi didn't work at any time during my two-day stay and the parking is completely inadequate. This facility is very close to Vancouver General Hospital, so is very convenient if you need a place to crash while visiting sick relatives.

"Don't go!"
Not a romantic place to stay if you're a couple. We arrived to find a permanent note on the door saying they're away but your key is in the mail box. We got in, found our room which was next to the kitchen. We tried using the computer and the internet wasn't working. At night, we got cold and couldn't find a thermostat so we used the blow dryer for a while...that didn't work. The bed was hard and we woke up to everyone coming down for breakfast. Usually B&B in Vancouver are amazing for breakfast, well this one has one lady that works there and does everything-cleaning, cooking, taking resos-everything. We ordered french toast and it was literally white toast dipped in egg and fried...no nice toast, no cinnamon...it was gross. We also paid more for this hotel due to higher prices in spring/summer. We would not recommend this place at all.

Had a very comfortable 5 night stay. The Douglas Inn is in a great neighbourhood with easy access to town or UBC area where I was going. The Inn is very clean and the space was comfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely come again when I am in Vancouver.

"Good value."
Stayed for two nights in late January 2015, nice room with bay windows and big, very comfortable bed. Room had ensuite which was large, functional and very clean. Like all Nth American rooms, the heating was cranked up to about 25 degrees celsius or more. Had to open all the bedroom windows to get the temp down to something manageable. There's plenty of off-street parking and it's a handy location to go downtown into Vancouver. The breakfast is pretty simple fare, nothing flash but it's ok. I'd stay there again.

This guest house was very comfortable and the hostess was courteous and helpful. The only drawback was that we could not control room temperature without opening windows or doors - it was a bit too warm. Included breakfast meal was delicious.

"Clean, Cozy, (mostly) Great Location"
01/11/16 SeaWAgirl5
We decided to do a last minute weekend getaway to Vancouver and booked a room at the Douglas House while driving towards the border. After booking the room I looked at the check-in hours and realized we would not be there in time. So I called the number and was able to arrange to pick up the room key and information from the mailbox. We were in Garden Suite D, which shares an entrance with another suite around the back of the house. It was a great little room, very comfortable. It had a queen bed, a couple side tables and chair, a dresser and a small tv, plus a closet area. The private bathroom was on the smaller side but met our requirements. The room was pretty quiet. We could barely hear some construction noise in late morning, and only heard a few footsteps above us another morning during the breakfast hours. Breakfast was served next door in Cambie Lodge our first morning, then at Douglas House our second morning. There was croissants and some fruit, toast, and cereal. We also could order French toast, pancakes, Veggie omelets, or two eggs served different ways. We had plenty to eat both days, and the ladies who worked in the breakfast area were friendly and welcoming. The Douglas House is in a good location. It’s in the Mt Pleasant neighborhood close to Vancouver City Hall, and it is convenient to downtown. You can either drive on Cambie Street across the bridge or walk a few blocks to the Sky Train station. We also walked from the B&B to downtown, but it may be too far for some. The neighborhood felt safe, and the free parking was a bonus. However, there is one thing that prevents this from getting a perfect review. Both nights we parked in the garage next door to the B&B. It’s not a secured garage but we figured it was fine off the street and coming from Seattle we never leave anything in the car anyways. Our second night there we got back around 11:30 pm, and went to bed. The next morning before checking out we out took the bags and discovered that the front passenger window had been smashed! There wasn’t anything too important in the vehicle – a couple spare coats hidden in the trunk, a mobile phone charger, some gift cars and the car info in the glove compartment – nothing that can’t be replaced. The staff at Douglas House were helpful, getting us in touch with the police and helping clean up all the glass. They did say this hasn’t happened before; looking at other reviews it looks like it has, but I have heard that Vancouver is having property crime issues. Our car was the closest to the entrance and the only one without BC plates so maybe they expected to find more even though we leave nothing visible? I don’t blame the Douglas House for this, but it did put a damper on our otherwise great stay.

I've stayed at Douglas & its other B&B accommodations. Nice. Just across the Cambie Bridge from downtown. Decent hot breakfast. There is off street parking which is great. One thing that would be nice to see is some better than basic shower heads!!

"Got robbed"
11/18/15 Joshua5751 Orlando, Florida
Once we arrived at the bed and breakfast as they call it, they had my reservation wrong stating that I had a shared bathroom. But they changed it for us with very little problems, the rooms were nice but the bed was hard as a rock, the food its self was very limited on what you could get. But the main thing is that when we stayed there the last night someone broke into our vehicle and stole our passports along with other things, as we woke up none of the morning staff said a thing to us and until I walked out front of the place and saw the state of my vehicle, I then asked for the police but was answered with "coffee?" From the staff which knew of the incident before hand but did not know how to take care of the situation. After getting a hold of the police they said that they will not even come out to take any photos and said we are on our own. After that the owner gave us the bill and said to pay up, I of course told him that after this event don't you know sympathy was in order and after a few choice words between us he realized that I was right and comped our stay for our troubles. He told us that this never happen before but I believe other wise, they are nice at first but watch out, nice location but they are in criminal sights for being robbed. Ps the grounds need some major TLC.

"Comfortable and well situated"

Stayed for four nights in verandah room. Room broadsides a laneway to next property which had security lights on all night which made sleep virtually impossible. Complained to management next morning who promptly went out and bought dark drapes to fix the problem..... thanks for your prompt action Paul but had to feel sorry for prior occupants to us. Mattress quality was very good, WIFI effective, clean, nice breakfast and obliging staff. Underground railway about seven minutes walk which made going into the city area so simple. There is a not too big shopping centre five minutes walk away and numerous restaurants close by. Would happily stay again.

"Base for vancouver"

This was our base in Vancouver, on two occasions. We had the basement apartments B on the first stopover and A on the second, both were clean spacious and comfortable, although the kitchens in both were limited in their appliances and cooking implements. The owners are not on site, so this is not a traditional b&b in the English sense, but the staff were lovely and really helpful. The breakfasts were very good with fresh fruit and a good choice of freshly cooked pancakes, French toast, omelettes, eggs any way... Lovely. They kindly stored our gear whilst we were off on a kayak expedition with mountain and sea guides and they were on site when we came back. Access is pretty good with bus stops for bus no 15 or 50 nearby that go to Canada place. The railway is 2 blocks south downhill as well. It's on a residential street so noise is pretty low. Overall a place we would go back to.

"Historical and village feel really close to central Vancouver"
09/13/15 janed78 Leicester, United Kingdom
The Guest House was in a lovely quiet residential area but with excellent transport and easy walking to the main Vancouver areas. Restaurants and shops just on the corner. It has the added bonus of guest parking, as costs are quote substantial in Vancouver, Beautiful character building and very good value for the money. We had the Penthouse with its own balcony to sit out under the stars with a bottle of wine

This was a good place to stay and catch our breath after a long flight from Australia. It was comfortable and quiet with a great breakfast. The other essentials are good pillows and a good shower. It is an easy walk to the train station as well as the river and access to Granville Island.

"Not a real B&B experience"
08/11/15 debgandolfo Kirkland, Washington
The owners have 3 B&Bs so perhaps they are stretched too thin. No one was there when we arrived; we found our room key and instructions in an envelope. The room was in the basement. It was adequate but had no charm whatsoever. When we arrived for breakfast, the coffee and fruit was self-serve. There was a list of items available for breakfast such as French toast or eggs, which the young woman working there (not one of the owners, just hired help) made to order. We ordered French toast, but I asked if the syrup was real maple syrup (Canada's most famous product!) and she no, and showed me the industrial-sized contained of Aunt Jemima's that they used! She said real maple syrup was "too expensive." The French toast used the cheapest kind of white bread. The breakfast was no better than you get in a chain hotel. The owners clearly don't really understand the concept of a Bed & Breakfast, where the guests are supposed to feel like they are in your home, and there is a personal touch. Although the price is lower than some other B&Bs, it isn't worth staying here since you aren't getting a real B&B experience.

"disappointing"

Had the "ground floor" room slightly below grade level. No staff on arrival but an envelope with keys and instructions to enter at rear of property were provided. The instructions included The Wi-Fi server and password. Unfortunately we could not connect so had no Wifi throughout the stay. Next morning the staff said it was a known problem and the owners had been made aware. Above the room is the dining area so at 7AM we were awoken by the scraping of chairs and tables onthe floor. This is not a true B&B, and it was disappointing that we never saw a hint off the owners. Hint... Don't have the omelette at breakfast...

This bed and breakfast is better than we expected. The breakfast is freshly prepared with a choice of delicious options. It is in a quiet, leafy street but only two blocks walk to the train, shops and restaurants. Staff were efficient and friendly.
