"Great Place!"
Great place for an extended few days with my wife after a week of work in the area. Only thing we truly didn't like about the place was it wasn't available for one more night before we flew home.

Stay a couple of nights while visiting Vancouver. Loves the neighborhood. Room was clean although small but expected in an old house. The staff was cordial but would have love to be fluent in english. Overall we had a good stay

Great breakfast options on site. Very clean, homey feel. No air conditioning. Fan provided was sufficient, in beginning of July. Staff was friendly and helpful with questions about the city.

"The Guest House concept is Great!"
This stay reminded me of Grad school....a great group of interesting people sharing a house. while you have your own room, the commons are shared. There were travelers from Asia, Europe, Australia, and a few from the states. It was great to sit on the great front porch and talk. It was great to have a breakfast room and gardens where people wanted to interact and share their experiences. The property is 1/2 mile from a major subway and bus line. The neighborhood has shopping and grocery near by. Know the house is older and it shows. But it is clean, the staff is great and staying here makes your travels feel much more adventuresome. My room "C" had a private bath and kitchenette. I will stay again.

Arrived late on our night, envelope waiting with out info and key. Room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great and staff was very friendly and accommodating. Location is just two short blocks from the Canada line which we took from the Airport. Will stay again when in Vancouver.

"Nice central location to stage from"
Nice clean room and the breakfast was excellent. On the down side wifi was useless and the building itself is showing signs of wear. We had a surprise need to stay in Vancouver overnight, so it was good to find it last minute. It is a central location, though, so while I probably will look elsewhere next time I stay in Vancouver it's not crossed off the list by any means.

"great location"
needed a place close to VGH and was so pleased with this choice. Had the "p" (penthouse) room, which was up 2 flights of stairs. Very cozy and charming room with adjoining smaller bedroom. Had a balcony overlooking the back yard. About a 10-15 minute walk to VGH. Convenient short walk toward Broadway to catch the skytrain. Great breakfast as well. I believe the wifi was in the lobby, as there was no access in my room. Will definitely be back!

"Convenient location"
The building and rooms are lovely, but the B and B is understaffed. The few people who work there are very nice, but the rooms seemed cleaned in haste, there was nobody around to ask questions to, and there's a shabbiness to everything. The wifi didn't work at any time during my two-day stay and the parking is completely inadequate. This facility is very close to Vancouver General Hospital, so is very convenient if you need a place to crash while visiting sick relatives.

"Don't go!"
Not a romantic place to stay if you're a couple. We arrived to find a permanent note on the door saying they're away but your key is in the mail box. We got in, found our room which was next to the kitchen. We tried using the computer and the internet wasn't working. At night, we got cold and couldn't find a thermostat so we used the blow dryer for a while...that didn't work. The bed was hard and we woke up to everyone coming down for breakfast. Usually B&B in Vancouver are amazing for breakfast, well this one has one lady that works there and does everything-cleaning, cooking, taking resos-everything. We ordered french toast and it was literally white toast dipped in egg and fried...no nice toast, no cinnamon...it was gross. We also paid more for this hotel due to higher prices in spring/summer. We would not recommend this place at all.

"Good value."
Stayed for two nights in late January 2015, nice room with bay windows and big, very comfortable bed. Room had ensuite which was large, functional and very clean. Like all Nth American rooms, the heating was cranked up to about 25 degrees celsius or more. Had to open all the bedroom windows to get the temp down to something manageable. There's plenty of off-street parking and it's a handy location to go downtown into Vancouver. The breakfast is pretty simple fare, nothing flash but it's ok. I'd stay there again.

"Charming neighbourhood and staff"
05/03/16 Dan M Harrison Hot Springs
Bright breakfast room with charming hostess who cooked great vegetarian omelettes and provided gluten free bread. Old neighbourhood with large trees and pretty gardens, close to grocery shopping. Suite E had comfy queen bed with also a single bed we piled our suitcases on. Shower temperature good. Small fridge and kettle in the hall outside our room were convenient. Parking tight one evening We walked to Queen Elizabeth and Van Ness Gardens, Granville Island, groceries and enjoyed seeing the houses and gardens in the area. WiFi worked

"First Time Visit to Vancouver."
04/23/16 Carlos E M San Antonio, Texas
We discovered the Douglas House while searching on line. Great location, easy walk to the Rail Link and bus going downtown. Ample places to eat and grocery stores close by. By far some of the best Chinese and Asian food I have eaten in a long time. We stayed in Suite C. Good space for 2 persons. Comfortable and clean. Cable TV worked well. It did get warm during our stay and there was no AC or fan to cool the space. Lorena, Laura and the rest of the staff worked to ensure we had a pleasant stay. Breakfast was very good. We didn't have a car, however, there was ample parking on the streets. The Douglas House was located on a quiet street in a very nice neighborhood. There was construction going on across the street, however, all the noise and racket started after 8:00 AM. Definitely would consider returning to the Douglas House if I returned to Vancouver. Reasonable price for what was offered and received.

"A great bed and breakfast"
04/13/16 Link620 Calgary, Canada
We stayed in suite C - It is a nice suite except for the double bed for 2 people with no side tables near the bed. One person has to crawl into the bed. The benefit of the room is the size. It has a nice kitchen area and the bathroom is larger than the other ones in the house. One downfall is that people sit out on the porch thinking they are not bothering anyone. The location is great - close to all attractions and the train.

"Douglas House Vancouver"
04/10/16 Dickinson54 Edmonton, Canada
Great breakfast with Laura, good location, we just parked our vehicle and biked everywhere. As we arrived after 9 pm and finding the key, there were no lights by the back door and foyer to help us find our way around. Did not realized we had a room below ground level with cars parked by our bedroom window and a notice not to leave any crumbs or food around because of an ant problem. Bathroom and shower stall doors would not close tight and properly. After messaging the owner he found us another accommodating for the next day. Fee is reasonable but make sure you ask to stay in room higher up. The house is very old and needs upkeep but the staff is very friendly and tries to keep the house clean and inviting. Yes construction was across the street but did not bother us as were were gone most of the day after breakfast and the workers stop working around 5 pm.

We stayed in the Mateo room, just off the kitchen on the main floor. It was clean and quiet. The staff were super friendly and went out of their way with the motto "Our home is your home." The breakfast was superb with Laura making excellent eggs, pancakes, omelettes. The home is centrally located so we were able to walk or take public transportation anywhere we wanted to go.

"The guest house is very tired and needs an update. "
03/25/16 Gio202 Vancouver, Canada
We stayed here and the construction across the street is noisy dusty and invasive. There are multiple old car and rev wrecks on the property and homeless people wandering the parking area. All and all, inexpensive but very poor value for money.

"Cozy home away from home"
03/14/16 Jeanne G Nelson, Canada
I usually stay with family in Vancouver, but when the flu struck them, I needed to find a place to stay with only a day's notice. I was there for business and needed a placed located within walking distance of Science World. I booked the room with bath based on the photos of the rooms online, preferring a hotel but not finding any in the area and price range. I was very pleased with the stay. They let me eat breakfast early, as I had to be at a meeting during their breakfast hours. I spent two nights and found it very cozy and fun to be in a home-like environment rather than a sterile hotel. Food is plentiful all around, and it is very close to the sky train station.

"Clean, Cozy, (mostly) Great Location"
01/11/16 SeaWAgirl5
We decided to do a last minute weekend getaway to Vancouver and booked a room at the Douglas House while driving towards the border. After booking the room I looked at the check-in hours and realized we would not be there in time. So I called the number and was able to arrange to pick up the room key and information from the mailbox. We were in Garden Suite D, which shares an entrance with another suite around the back of the house. It was a great little room, very comfortable. It had a queen bed, a couple side tables and chair, a dresser and a small tv, plus a closet area. The private bathroom was on the smaller side but met our requirements. The room was pretty quiet. We could barely hear some construction noise in late morning, and only heard a few footsteps above us another morning during the breakfast hours. Breakfast was served next door in Cambie Lodge our first morning, then at Douglas House our second morning. There was croissants and some fruit, toast, and cereal. We also could order French toast, pancakes, Veggie omelets, or two eggs served different ways. We had plenty to eat both days, and the ladies who worked in the breakfast area were friendly and welcoming. The Douglas House is in a good location. It’s in the Mt Pleasant neighborhood close to Vancouver City Hall, and it is convenient to downtown. You can either drive on Cambie Street across the bridge or walk a few blocks to the Sky Train station. We also walked from the B&B to downtown, but it may be too far for some. The neighborhood felt safe, and the free parking was a bonus. However, there is one thing that prevents this from getting a perfect review. Both nights we parked in the garage next door to the B&B. It’s not a secured garage but we figured it was fine off the street and coming from Seattle we never leave anything in the car anyways. Our second night there we got back around 11:30 pm, and went to bed. The next morning before checking out we out took the bags and discovered that the front passenger window had been smashed! There wasn’t anything too important in the vehicle – a couple spare coats hidden in the trunk, a mobile phone charger, some gift cars and the car info in the glove compartment – nothing that can’t be replaced. The staff at Douglas House were helpful, getting us in touch with the police and helping clean up all the glass. They did say this hasn’t happened before; looking at other reviews it looks like it has, but I have heard that Vancouver is having property crime issues. Our car was the closest to the entrance and the only one without BC plates so maybe they expected to find more even though we leave nothing visible? I don’t blame the Douglas House for this, but it did put a damper on our otherwise great stay.

I've stayed at Douglas & its other B&B accommodations. Nice. Just across the Cambie Bridge from downtown. Decent hot breakfast. There is off street parking which is great. One thing that would be nice to see is some better than basic shower heads!!
