"Good but noisy"
03/05/14 Barnwell51 Milton Keynes
The hotel/hostal has no sign on the building or door ( look for number 15) and nobody knew of it which was a bit worrying. From the outside it looks very scruffy and inside is not any better, so we were very concerned what we had booked. Once we found the lady to check us in, she said we had a choice of 2 rooms, we chose a room on the next floor which over looked the street. Big mistake, the room was lovely all newly refurbished, but the noise at night was awful, traffic, people coming out of the club up the road until 5am and was also on the main cut through from the other parts. The location was brilliant a few minutes to the metro and all sights and we had a excellent time, as I said the only downfall was the noise, so no sleep for 3 nights. If you do stay I would advise to take a hair dryer and kettle as neither of these are in the room. There are some lovely coffee bars all within walking distance.

Spent all Sunday walking round the area of El Rastro/Barrio de Las Letras/Gran Via/ Pza Ópera plus enjoying the variety in Art&Gastronomy that all areas offer. We had reserved in advance,so when we got to the Hostel,(fab location) just checked-in and enjoyed the room facilities; simple but enchanting. Not so noisy on a Sunday night!

Definitely value for money! Booked this wonderful hostel on-line based on reviews here on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. Take the bus from the airport, then the metro from Plaza de Cibeles and get off at Tirso de Molina. That's the last time you're taking the metro until you leave Madrid because as your landlady, Marimar, will tell you: Everything is within walking distance. After you ring the doorbell, Maria will gladly escort you upstairs to your room. Señora Marimar speaks very little English but right after she gets your paperwork done, she's a whirlwind of information with her map of Madrid on where to dine, shop and go sight-seeing! The room is small but comfortable. You get what you pay for It fits a queen-sized bed with very little room to walk around and definitely no place to lay down luggage so keep your bags upright and take out clothes as you need them. It's very close to Plaza Mayor which is a delight on weekends! There's a Carrefour Express on Calle Mayor where you can do your grocery. Don't miss Restaurante Botin for the best cochinillo... pricey but well worth the indulgence! Walk off your sumptuous meal by visiting Santa Iglesia Catedral de Santa Maria la Real de la Almudena which houses a relic of Blessed Pope John Paul II.
"Very very comfortable but tiny!"
The room was very very comfortable: the mattress and pillows were viscoelastic! When we arrived the bath towels were swans shaped. lovely! Though being in an old flat, the interior was modern. The lift is small, it's for 3 average-sized persons, nothing else. It was easy to sleep, even with street noise. The bathroom was tiny but clean! You should learn some spanish before arriving, because the staff's english is not always easy to understand.
"Three days in Madrid"
This hostel is run by very accommodating personnel. Javier was wonderful and helpful with information. He also allowed us to leave a piece of luggage overnite while we travelled to another city. Rooms are newly redone. Very clean but very tiny! Little room around bed for walking and any amount of luggage. But have to say this place is a great value for Madrid. Location is perfect for a plethora of activities, attractions and dining choices. The biggest drawback is the noise from the street. People in Spain are all up til wee hrs. of the morning and they all seem to be passing and talking loudly right under your window if your room is on the street. Metro station is just feet away from the front door.
"Great price for 2 nights, brilliant location"

Basic but clean and mainly functioning rooms (we had a problem with our toilet flushing, which was fixed after our first night); the location is really ideal. In the very centre of Madrid, most places are walking distance and the metro (Tirso de Molina) is about 30 seconds from the front door, as well as a lidl supermarket, and a few restaurants doing the "menu del dia" significantly cheaper than more touristic areas of the city. 8 euros for a delicious starter, main, and desert, with bread and a drink of your choice were easy to find on the main street joining on from calle de doctor cortezo, where the hostel's situated. There's free wifi, and the hostess is accommodating and friendly, although speaks no English and very fast Spanish, but we eventually understood. Great for a short trip, easy access to all the barrios you'd be interested in visiting as a tourist, and perfect location for sampling the tapas - we'd recommend "El Tigre" in Chueca, it's always packed but for 5 euros you get 2 cervezas and a plate loaded with delicious and hot tapas. Que tengas un buen viaje!
"Great location & price! Bring earplugs"

This place is very basic and simple. The room comes with a double bed,an ensuite bathroom, a nightstand and a small closet. The location is very good, a short walk to Sol, Grand Via and La Latina. Heading anywhere else? Take the metro which is a 2 minutes walk away. Also very helpful is the supermarket just outside of the Metro station and the fruit stalls which equals to cheap eats. The free WiFi is also very good. Its true that the people who run the place don't speak English, I didn't really encounter any difficulty. The major dislike I have about this place is the noise. Yes the walls are thin, and you can hear peope walking by. But what really bugs me is the noise from the bar downstairs, which can go on till 3 or 4AM in the morning. I heard people singing 'New York, New York' on my second night. Glad I brought my earplugs, this place would have been pretty hard to live at otherwise.
"Good for fast Madrid visit, not for staying"

Good location (close to the most important places, metro station and supermarket), nice staff (pero hablan solo espanol :-)), very helpfull, gave us a plan of the city and showed all the important places. What you should know before is - no view through the window, no place in the room (just place for the bed), not very many channels in the TV but clean with hot water and towels bedding change every day.
"Exactly what we were looking for-cheap, clean and great location"

I am writing this review from my room as one of the perks of Hostal Naranjos is complimentary WiFi. My boyfriend and I have spent 4 nights here and would certainly return. The exterior is tired and we were wary on arrival. The owners are very helpful and friendly despite the language barrier. The rooms although small, are modern and very clean. The bathrooms are equally tiny but they're private and at £25 a night we weren't complaining. Walls are thin which was the only minor drawback but after a few cervezas sleeping was no problem! The location is perfect, a 10 minute stroll from Sol and a 2 minute walk from the Tirso de Molina tube stop. We have absolutely loved our time in Madrid and it's highly likely we will be back, booking Hostal Naranjos without hesitation!
"Very good location"

Nice value for money. Very handy location (pretty close to Plaza del Sol, Plaza Mayor). Really willing to help you even though they do not speak english...(it was a bit hard for us) maybe this was the main drawback. The room was clean enough, it was a very pleasant surprise to find our room clean on the last day considering that we left the room after the maid's working hours and while we explained them (at least we tried) that it wasn't big deal. *Nice idea the micro oven at the hall for those you want to heat up a meal or water.
